I tapped out of TWD when they killed off Carl. And they had done so many things before that would have made me bail but I stuck with it. Wanted to see where it was going. But clearly it wasn't going anywhere. They had no plan, no endgame in sight. What a waste.

I was curious so I did a search for : why killed off Carl The first answer was : It happened because of the emotional impact it had on Rick. It's been explained that Carl's death needed to happen to get Rick in the mindset of his comic book counterpart. Anyone have any thoughts on this answer?

I will actually defend season 2. Yes, it moves slower than any other season, but the character development and the slow-burn movement towards clearing the barn and, ultimately, the farm being overrun and losing many characters in the last few episodes more than balances it out. Shane remains a fan favorite 9 seasons after his death which serves to make season 2 good in and of itself. Season 2 serves to give the audience a breather from the massive bombs dropped on us from season one in rapid succession and allows us and the characters to adjust to the new world together. The dialogue, character relationships, setting, tone, cinematography, and writing as a whole were spot on despite many people wanting more action. The final three episodes are some of the best, yet most difficult, to watch in the entire show due to a combination of excellent episode creation and sadness to see the farm and several beloved characters be killed. I will always prefer to watch season 2 BY ITSELF over anything from season 6 onwards due to Scott Gimple’s failure as a show runner.

I liked Season 2 overall. There were definitely some slow moments per se, but the first and last episodes of that season constituted the best season opener and the best season finale in my opinion. The conflict between Shane and Rick was very momentous. Who could forget Sophia as a zombie emerging from the barn? The characters were all realistic too - Super Michonne hadn't yet arrived on the scene, Daryl and Rick and Carol had not yet evolved into indestructible Rambo heroes, and Andrea's actions (for good and bad) were all realistic (before the writers ruined Andrea completely in Season 3). Everything was still fresh at the time, and the sojourn on Hershel's farm allowed for a lot of character development (Andrea's sharpshooting skills developed, Glenn and Maggie became a couple, and so on). So I look back favourably on Season 2.

I never had an issue with Glen's death because I knew it happened in the comic, but Carl's death and his replacement by Judith just left me done with series. Just the fact they killed him off to and have him replaced by the Sister who hadn't said a word the entire series just left me a little upset, and then finding out how upset Chandler Riggs and his father were after Chandler bought a House in Atlanta to be closer to the shoot and were both Lied to by Scott Gimple that they had plans for Carl in the Future.

Totally agree with the wild ups and downs of the show. I wish I got to see Frank's version =[ However the comic does have all of the CRM and Commonwealth stuff towards the end I think its a good way to go out in style. Also I have to disagree with zombies being a boring monster. They're dead people, literally getting back up to eat you, in the millions. I find that absolutely terrifying every time. If they run, it's even worse. I LOVE the zombie genre and to me, it's the most realistic monster in horror. Talking puppets, werewolves, blob monsters etc are very very fantastical, zombies however seem TOO real and thats why theyre scary.

I tried to stick with it after the Saviors story line but I had to nope out when they introduced the Whispers. Not only had they killed off every character I gave a shit about by that point but the story made no sense. In the previous season all the communities had come together to take on the Saviors, they had hundreds of well armed people. Then when the Whispers showed up and started trying to push them around they rolled over and showed their bellies instead of arming up and wiping them out like they should have done the first time the showed their ugly bald heads.

I get where you're coming from, I personally liked season 9-11, especially season 9 and 10, they're some of my favourite seasons, but it's such a shame that the show took such a big nose-dive in season 7-8 and that many people left after that, thanks to Gimple's writing and decision making. But the show is still doing great and has a huge fanbase and viewership so the series isn't dead yet at all, especially with season 10, which is the highest rated season of the series, and the writing for the story and characters has gotten much better since then and I do think that Daryl is a good lead in the show now in my opinion, his dialogue and writing in general has been so much better and he actually has things to do and say again Whether you want to give the rest of the series a chance again or not is totally up to you and valid either way, though. I just want to let you know that it does get better and that I would recommend it

Glenn was always gonna die tho, I could have told you that back in season 1 just cause of the comics lol With Carl it's a little more complicated because Negan was supposed to live but in the show he's a lot more brutal than in the comics. Rick was on a warpath and wasn't gonna keep Negan alive at any cost so to keep Negan alive, something had to happen for Rick to change his mind. And that ended up being Carl's death because even if they kept Carl alive Rick probably wouldn't have listened given where his mindset was at, at the time

I checked out when they killed off Glen. In the first season or two, I figured the ultimate goal of this show was to find a cure for zombies or they just leave to a deserted island. But in season 3, I realized that it’s basically just man vs man with zombies taking a back seat to the plot. Ergo, you can have a million seasons of this show, but it won’t be interesting when you’ve already figured out where they’re going: nowhere.

I mean, it’s made it all the way to it’s final story arc, which is the Commonwealth story arc. Thats when they end up taking over the Commonwealth via a revolution and it gives our characters the ability to live in a normal, fully functioning society again. And from what I’ve seen, they’re going with that ending. So no, it has been going somewhere, and most of the fans are happy with this ending.

Is it amazing? No. Is it terrible? No. It’s a mixed bag with good and some bad. And this is coming from a fan of the show. Considering TWD was pitched to HBOBat one point, it creates an interesting “what if” in which what if Frank Darabont didn’t have to deal with the penny pinching AMC. I actually tried taking it upon myself to try and create a redit of TWD to be a mix between the show and comic. Like having T-Dog and Axel live to S4 Ep8, kill off Sasha sooner, keep Andrea, Beth and Carl alive, keep Morgan and Dwight around after S8, etc.

@@jacobcook245 simple. Have some of comic Axel’s storyline introduced in the show, and T-Dog was surprisingly easy to give him stuff to do up to the mid season of season 4. For Season 4 I mostly focused on his friendship with Andrea and him being involved in the sick plot.

He guy he bit was gonna R is son, and the guy he chopped in the head just tried to push a walker on him to kill him. The guy he chopped in the dark church tired to eat him. He’s not supposed to be the high-horsed sherif who runs around saving everyone.

I don't have cable or whatever TWD plays on so I've never watched it except a couple eps on DVD my bud has. But I've watched some of these "down fall" videos and killing off Carl was the worse, imho. Just like Andrew said, Carl was Rick's reason to keep going on and killing Carl off gave him no purpose. Carl could have carried on as a leader. Reason why Carl was killed off the show, was because he was fired on his 18th birthday because they didn't wanna pay Riggs an adult wage. Crazy.

The walking dead started losing quality after season 3 after they had lost so many of the extraordinary original cast and had failed to create new characters with equal presence as well as the writing and cinematography showing signs of declining. Look at the great moments of seasons 1, 2, and 3 that were leagues ahead of season 4 and onward such as Dr. Jenner telling the group the truth, Rick waking up, the barn scene, Rick killing Shane, Rick losing his sanity, the first shootout in the bar, and many others that were so perfectly written, shot, and acted. After Frank Darabont and Glen Mazarra left the show plummeted so quickly largely (from what I’ve seen) due to Scott Gimple’s failure to understand what the show really is. He made much of the later seasons cheap, over-dramatic, and ultimately lost the show’s tone and suspense of disbelief. I will always hold to the idea that the season 3 finale would have been the best way to end the show after seeing what we have gotten since then. The Governor was defeated, the group had survived despite losing many of the people they loved, and Rick overcame his insanity and brought the survivors of Woodbury, his formerly fierce enemies, into the prison in order to protect them and move forward towards peace, you couldn’t ask for a more fitting ending given the circumstances.

When they killed off Glen, it was obvious they were just trying to copy game of thrones with some shocking deaths. I literally didn't finish that episode and turned it off, and never watched the show again. If writers want to ruin a show trying to hop on some hype train nonsense, I'm not going to validate it by watching. Also, with how slow the zombies were, I really had to suspend my disbelief that the world was in such a dystopian state because of it. In reality, these zombies wouldn't be killing anyone and you just kind of had to go along with it...

The Walking Dead became a zombie of a show, shambling on despite being long deceased. I gave up halfway through the penultimate season because every scene was boring, and even getting that far was a struggle. Bad Bald Woman and her army of goons weren't even much of a threat, plodding around being more an irritant than a fearsome foe. Nearly every interesting character was killed off or left in some other way, and Daryl, Carol and Michonne were just going through the motions. Negan had reclaimed Lucille and his biker jacket in the last episode I completed, but I couldn't have cared less. Does anyone even know the names of most of the characters now?

From what I understand, AMC killed the show from the start (eventually in combination with the comic book writer Kirkman). The initial showrunner Frank Darabont wanted to start the 2nd season off showing the military fighting against the zombies, ending with the tank zombie that Rick found in season 1. AMC instead wanted to stick the farm because of the cost of set productions. So after arguing with them over finances and getting paid, they fired him at the end of season 1. His assistant, Glen Mazzara, became showrunner for seasons 2 and 3. He ran into the same problems. AMC not only wanted 16 episodes per season, but also wanted him to stick closely to the comics. 16 episodes per season allows AMC to maximize their advertising. Then spend 2 months in the fall pushing out 8 episodes, take a break for 2 months during the holidays, and then 2 months in the spring pushing out the rest of the season. The only problem was, there was no material. The comics only came out with 25-30 pages a month, while the weekly show needed 4 hours of entertainment from that one monthly comic. So the show quickly outpaced the comic, and they wouldn't let him create new material or give him the money for new sets. That's why you ended up with a lot of filler episodes that followed people who just died, and you had the main characters doing stupid things just to try and move the plot forward. Glen Mazzara ended up quitting at the end of season 3 because he could see he was going the same way as Darabont, so they brought on Scott Gimple for seasons 4 through 8. Gimple loved the comics and closely followed them, but that's also why you had repetitive plotlines and character arcs. The characters would learn something, only to unlearn it again the next season, constantly finding and losing their humanity, going back and forth between new settlements. Gimple tried to embrace the low budget by having characters just wander around in the woods most of the time to cut down on set costs. In order to fill time for the long 16 episode seasons, he tried to spend an entire episode following a single character around, which made the stories hard to follow when you went back to a character from several episodes earlier. Most of the seasons became meaningless filler material that went nowhere. When the Negan storyline popped up, a lot of the main actors demanded more money from AMC, and in response, they got rid of Carl when he tried to demand the same money as Lincoln, Reedus and Dean Morgan. This pretty much killed the show, and the ended up bringing on Angela Kang on as showrunner in season 9. Kang quickly went woke and killed off most of the white male cast, focusing mainly on women and minorities. The characters still suffered from fighting all the time and making stupid decisions in order to fill in empty time and move the plot along. Characters would fight and then make up, just to create fake tension. The whole Reapers plot after the Whisperers was just an attempt to fill time. Overall, the writing continually declined until they got to Commonwealth halfway through the last season which still ended poorly. The worst part is that it could have been a good show without AMC's meddling. If they trimmed it down to 12 or 13 episodes a season like Breaking Bad and Sopranos, and have focused more on producing a good show rather than advertising and expenses, it might have been one of the best shows on television.

I used to love this show so much. Seasons 1 and 2 were the best. Season 6 is when I started to slowly lose interest. Then they killed Glen off in such an unnecessarily brutal way. That was just way too much for me and I kind of lost interest for a while. Even when I did decide to finally start watching the show again it was never with any regularity. When they killed off Carl though that was it. I watched only bits and pieces of the show after that. I wanted to see Carl’s transition from a boy into a man in this world. Once he was gone there was really nothing left. Daryl was once my favorite but they never really did anything interesting with his character. So many years I spent with this show and I still haven’t even seen the last two seasons at all. Now they’re coming out with a couple of spinoffs and I probably won’t watch those either.

Also, i dont really get the whole killing Carl off thing, like yeah Carl was supposed to be the future of TWD but Chandler Riggs' acting was shoddy at best. He was a nerdy, scrawny teenager trying to play the role of a badass, no nonsense warrior, it was ridiculous, his delivery of his lines was terrible and just had me laughing at him whenever he said anything. wow, nothing wrong with being a big fan but I draw the line when you think being popular mean others can't have different opinion or the show have no flaws, you still love it, others don't and some don't watch but none are wrong so don't be so entitled and learn to be open minded, it just a show mate no need to be that rude. also, you saw the word fallen if you're that sensitive over a fictional show instead of giving an actual argument and just attacking a real person then grow up please. imo the comic version is way better than the tv show.

It started off Great and went to shit really fast. A lot of this shit didn't make sense. I.E. Not going to get the rest of the food, or weapons on the ground. Liked the fact they would retrieve their arrows. Crying and having a heart to heart in the middle of battle WTF! Liked that the walkers got weaker but did like they were evolving but took so long. Hated the ending and hated 100 lbs girls beating 300 lbs men tons at a time. Just shoot them, gun powder makes everyone the same side. It was a waist unfortunately.

I disagree with Season 1 being the highest point. So many people jump on the bandwagon because Frank directed it. It has many problems as well. The high point is season 5-6. Still though, The Walking Dead really started to fall from grace after Season 7 when the focus went from Rick and his group trying to survive to multiple communities trying to survive Negan. Then take the lack luster Season 8 where an all out war happen.

What I don't understand is, why would they keep making up weird rivals who somehow always want to harm or kill them? It is true that I buy what they say about this scenarios, ''humans are more dangerous than zombies''. But like, at one point it should actually go about zombies, right? They have made like, I don't know, 5 spin offs by now. Same thing, again ang again. A world full of zombies, but the plot is about humans killing each other for who knows what reason. Is it so difficult to crate an enviroment in which zombies are the real danger? Or even the changes the world suffers when there's not enough people to run like it should? Nah. We better create stupid enemies that everyone knows will end up dead at one point, whilst the plot, the characters and the show itself keeps losing interest. The thing is, I read some of the comments people write in the trailer videos, and they love it. HOW? I can't believe it, honestly.

The issue is, is that they took a lot of the realism the show had and turned it into a boring fantasy shit show. It became boring because you couldn’t relate to the characters anymore. Even the new characters became extremely boring after awhile. This show could of had so much potential, it’s just sad how it turned out.

I get where you're coming from, I personally liked season 9-11, especially season 9 and 10, they're some of my favourite seasons, but it's such a shame that the show took such a big nose-dive in season 7-8 and that many people left after that, thanks to Gimple's writing and decision making. But the show is still doing great and has a huge fanbase and viewership so the series isn't dead yet at all, especially with season 10, which is the highest rated season of the series, and the writing for the story and characters has gotten much better since then and I do think that Daryl is a good lead in the show now in my opinion, his dialogue and writing in general has been so much better and he actually has things to do and say again. Whether you want to give the rest of the series a chance again or not is totally up to you and valid either way, though. I just want to let you know that it does get better and that I would recommend it :)

season 1 was amazing. had its flaws but most shows do. it introduced us to the characters in a very natural way, the dialogue was amazing, and they had a mix of funny and serious scenes. The zombies were also freakier and more human-like. They were smarter, faster, and even groaned differently. I seriously don't know why they changed it. I think that mutation thing they are adding now in recent seasons and spinoffs is just to close up a plot hole. season 2 is a massive step down from season 1. it's like comparing True Detective Season 1 to True Detective Season 2. TWD S2 is right. had a lot of stupid scenes and writing decisions. Too many bottle episodes for a 12-episode season. It's almost criminal. But some were entertaining like watching Daryl survive in the woods. Some episodes almost gave me a stroke, like the one with the well. I mean, for all I know it could all have been the same episode. Some S2 episodes were so fucking boring, it felt like it took a lifetime to get thru them. The best thing about season 2 is - in my opinion - Shane's death, how they handled Dale's death, and the whole drama surrounding Randall. I also like Hershel's little character arc and I really like the shootout scene in the bar, with those bandits that Randall was a part of. I was watching that, thinking when Glenn was going to get his chance to kill someone in the future and wondering if it was going to be a big moment. I'll talk more about that when I get to Season 5. season 3 was awesome. It's hard for me to say it's better than season 1. A lot of people would make the case that S1 is better because it has fewer flaws and better writing. But S3 also has good writing, which surprised me. There are more flaws but it's mainly because S3 is almost three times longer than S1. so of course there are going to be a couple of bottle episodes and writing errors. I love the way they handled Merle's character. in some scenes, he's a little too witty and cheesy. though in most scenes, it's hard not to say he's one of the best characters in the season, even better than Daryl, who was a really cool character at this point in the show. Rick was great. Even Andrea (although she made stupid decisions) was mostly well-written and I felt bad for her when she died. Michonne was a little boring and annoying. The Governor is the star of the season. And at this point, he was my favorite character, right after Shane. Merle became my third favorite. The biggest issue I had with the show was the inclusion of Tyreese, Sasha, and the other people they came into the prison with. Tyreese was likable and decent, but hardly even a character at all. He became more interesting in season 4, though became useless in season 5, which is why they died, cuz the show couldn't just have him live as a normal citizen in Alexandria and have him not take part in combat due to his peaceful nature. NO. season 4 was both good and disappointing. I thought the first episode was boring as hell. though the following episodes with Hershel saving the sick prisoners and Glenn getting Ebola were pretty good. I was expecting Hershel to get sick and die from it actually. And he probably would've if he didn't get beheaded by the Governor. The episodes focused on The Governor were fantastic. I thought the destruction of the prison was pretty cool but there is a bit of stupidity. First of all, why is the guy in the tank destroying what would soon be his new home? Sure, they can fix fences. But how the hell are they going to reconstruct a full prison? I guess you can just chalk it up to the tank driver being a dunce and The Governor being too fixated on revenge and killing to even bother stopping the guy. Whatever. The best character in season 4 isn't Hershel. great character but he isn't the best in this season. It isn't Rick, though he's a close second. He's the best character in season 5. It isn't Daryl. In fact, this is when Daryl starts being a bit boring as a character. I did like the little bond he had with Beth, though I didn't like how some fans were misinterpreting it as being romantic. Beth is like 17 and Daryl is canonically in his 40s now. I think they were more like siblings. Daryl was probably even a bit fatherly in some instances. The best character in the season was Carol due to her character arc and the things she does. Carl's character got ruined in this season, and it really disappointed me because it seemed as if he was growing up and becoming more serious and dangerous in season 3, only for him to be annoying, whiny, and unrealistically immature in season 4. season 4's finally is probably one of the best cliffhangers and the wait was worth it. the first few episodes of season 5 were amazing. I love Abraham's character and I liked the twist about Eugene not being a scientist. I think it was great. I also liked Rosita because she's hot, and you gotta have that one hot character. Rick is probably the best character in the first half of season 5. He was truly terrifying. Glenn was great too. Abraham was amazing, even better than Glenn in my opinion. Maggie was starting to get a bit more interesting. though she got bored again. And I couldn't stand Sasha. Carl didn't do much that season and he was getting a little more serious. I feel like the actor is more suited to play characters who don't say much because whenever the writers give Carl a monologue or they have him say something eccentric, it just comes off as forced and stupid. It makes the writing of his dialogue ten times worse than it really is. this was an issue in one or two scenes in season 1 as well. anyways, the worst episodes in season 5 have to be the two middle episodes. I hated how Bob dies in one episode, the next episode or two, Beth dies in the stupidest way possible, and then in the following episode, Tyreese is given a death that should've happened to Noah. Stupid writing and no respect for the characters. The last few episodes were pretty good. I honestly think the show should've ended at that season. because after that, the show went downhill. Imma just say it quickly, season 6 has a couple of alright episodes but most are dumb or boring. season 7, 8, 9, and so on were BAD BAD BAD. zombie soap operah.

You said season 2 is universally considered the worst and that is objectively wrong. That is actually a very divisive subject. Many say it's one of the best if not THE best season the show had. People just like to complain but really none of the complaints about season 2 hold much water. Its just people who say they never leave the farm but let's face it, the show has always been mainly about characters drama and personal conflicts and the zombies have always been the cause of those dramas and more of the back drop so complaining that there isn't enough action just doesn't really hold up when trying to argue season 2 isn't a good season for the show. Casual viewers don't like it because it isn't enough for their attention spans but for the most part hard core fans tend to view it as some of the best the show had to offer Also who the hell have you met that thinks fear is better than the original? Give me one person who will come forward and say they told you that because I call BS lol. Everyone hates that show and a large majority of the fan base literally hate watches it. They watch it to laugh at it in a so bad it's good type of way and it's considered one of the worst written shows ever. This video is excellent but man it's like you just read a brief article about why people don't like the show and repeated it here lol alot of this is just straight up untrue.

Some things I agree with but others I don’t. I feel like this is a very opinionated piece when I expected more of a factual approach like the first half of the video. Discussing the frank darbaont stuff is a legitimate point against the show and I agree with it. But when you go on to say “zombies are the most boring movie monster” and “you can only do so much with zombies. They’re all the same” I just fundamentally disagree. It seems like you just don’t really care for zombies in general so why would you stick around if you’re not liking the new characters yknow? I’m a lifelong zombie fan and there’s many reasons for me to be interested in them. Zombies can be whatever the hell you want. I really don’t get the point about werewolves and vampire. Like, they’re all the same pretty much in media too lmao. You can make anything be anything if you’re creative enough. You saying “they’re all the same, they all get shot in the head, they’re all dumb, etc. is just not true. you don’t have to shoot them in the head in the last of us, and lots of zombie media has had somewhat “smart zombies”.
