I almost never finish a 20 minutes KZbin video. I thought I would watch 2 minutes and be done, but you're just so charming and natural that I couldn't help myself from watching the whole thing

Like you said Joe, we do comment. Home is where you make it and Utah is not that far that you can't get back when you need to. Video, vacations, etc. Work you business and save your money and if you decide later you can always move back then. I stayed in the home area for too long and now I regret it. Too late in life to find what I am looking for here. You are still young enough to take time to decide. See you next time.

We do love you❤ There were a lot of questions that got me thinking, but when you started talking about your mother, that brought tears to my eyes. I would give anything to tell my Mom that I love her, one more time. She was the one person that guided me through the journey of coming out. I hope you find someone on the same path that understands you and loves you...you deserve that.

Be like me, I never stick at one place for too long, I changed like 6 schools before I could graduate HS, but one thing I learned is be closer to family, they keep u busy & are there to support you. && bout ur career; boy you don't know what future holds for you, you might just end up getting a career upgrade. Atleast I'll be waiting for you to document that. Not saying you should leave Texas, but access to friends will eventually be limited as we age. But not family, take care 💙

I have had friends who lost friends and they invariably say "I wish I had told them how much they meant to me but now its too late". I have always told my friends what they mean to me and how much I love them. it can sometimes make for awkward moments but they know it comes from the heart and accept that. you are a beautiful human being Joseph, thoughtful and caring, you have a way about you which puts people at ease.

Re: The Austin dilemma: Your family can be important and that's fine. But other times they can hold you back. Probably the only lesson I've learned is that you need a balance. If you're not fulfilled in your work, if you turned aside too early or didn't push it as far as you could due to fear or circumstance, it's hard to be happy in your life. No matter how many loved ones you live close to. And I suspect it might be harder to build a career in Utah, just because of your circumstances and the prevailing attitudes of those who live there. Where you live often matters. Love this video, btw.

I too live in Austin - over in NE Austin by the Expo Center and i enjoy watching your videos. Of course I am one of those who usually comments on your videos for encouragement. Your content beats TV any day. Last time I cried was because I was laughing so hard. It happens a few times a year. Last time I was sad and cried I was with a friend who found out he had terminal cancer - that was 14 years ago. Glad to hear your business is doing well. With your friendly persona and humble attitude, you will be successful. If you ever decide to do a meetup in Austin, keep me in mind. I won't bite. I work for a community based health care agency here in Austin. As always, thank you for posting. I know it really helps many others who may be questioning their sexual orientation. Be safe and take care.

Very interesting topic and great on getting better to know you even though ive followed all your videos. With regards to where to live, home is where you feel the happiest in and usually is reflected by the most people you love and feel loved. Now thats not to say there are places that have people you love as well. In today's hectic career world people often follow their jobs so you will find you have loving friends and family in many different cities and parts of the world but home is where most of them are and where you feel the happiest and able to be yourself. Hope that helps. Alex

Question #37: Describe to your partner what it was like to leave a career with an established career path (i.e. banking) to go out on your own into a career of photography/videography. How scary was it? How did you talk yourself into it? What did you worry about the most? Would you do it again? Would you recommend it?
@josephgarner943 жыл бұрын
It was VERY scary. It helped that I was in a relationship and my partner was wanting me to move with him out of state, seemed like the perfect opportunity to quit the bank anyways. It’s tough starting something totally new because obviously there’s a learning curve. I do wish I would have been more tactical about the transition, but overall I’m happy I did it. I think it’s important for people to do what they enjoy.

@thomasthompson63783 жыл бұрын
@@josephgarner94 Well, when you do go to Houston, here's something you need to know. The life of the City of Houston -- at least downtown -- is entirely underground. I never understood why (perhaps it has something to do with the humidity) but if you do go, you won't find many people walking the streets above ground. Yes, yes, I know that sounds nuts; but it's true.

Well i would say in response to your last question, home is where your heart is. If your heart is in Texas, stay there. Love your videos and keep up the awesome work!!!

I sort of feel like that last is a question that only you can really answer. I think there are good arguments on both sides. On one hand, if your business is doing well and that business is centered in Austin, then it makes sense to want to stay there. But on the other hand, your family is not going to be around forever, and spending time with them might be more important to you than your work. So I don’t know that there’s a right or wrong answer there. Do what your heart tells you.

"If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are living now? Why?" You gave a fine answer to this, of course; but it's the wrong question, because all of us, at whatever age, could "die suddenly" at virtually any time. I think this means that, however we might answer this question, that must be our answer now, in this moment, for today and always.

Joseph, always good to listen to you sharing yourself. Thoroughly enjoy all you say. You take my mind to new places. Today, thanks to you, an idea came to me. I didn't know you were into cinematography. There Is a story that needs to be told. It is how same sex loves, when lived as equally valid as opposite sex loves, will create a magnificent new world order .... one of material material abundance for all, equality and justice. A part of this is holding the first ever world-wide vote through social media challenging world leaders to be true to what Eleanor Roosevelt wrote in the preamble to the UN Charter, "the people are the basis of all political authority." Interested?

I have 5 older brothers. I live in Pennsylvania along with a brother that is 2 years older than I. My Twin brother lives in Utah along with my Second oldest brother. My Oldest brother lives in Wisconsin and my Third oldest brother lives in Illinois. I keep up with most of my 'out of state' brothers via Facebook. The other 2 we talk on the phone every couple of months. I KNOW that should I have a major problem which would drop everything and come for a visit. (I had a stroke in 2007 and my second and third oldest brothers came out. One of them stayed for 3 weeks while I was in critical condition and went back to his life after I was well on my way back to near normal life.) When my parents passed (1998 for Dad and 2004 for Mom) Everyone came here to more or less have a reunion. My parents ashes are currently in Utah at my Second oldest brother's house. He is planning a Memorial and Funeral for both of them this fall, we are all invited, but since I cannot travel (due to my stroke) the whole thing will be held on Zoom so I can participate. That is who we feel it is best as far as keeping in touch.

However, building a career and friendships and a new life in Austin is more suitable for personal growth... in my opinion. I spent most of my life 3000 miles away from my biological family, but my gay family turned out to be probably even more important over those growth years...cuz they "know" me.

I find myself being emotional often while watching sad TV programs, 9/11 true account stories etc. Also, with all ur siblings & niece/nephews, do they all accept that we're attracted to other guys (or when they grow up, will they accept this "gay" concept about us as they grow up hearing their school peers make fun of the topics such as gay sex, in a "junior high school" type of way)? We are mature gay guys, but how will our niece/nephews grow up experiencing their peers nit-picking the aspects of gay intimacy, (which is what so many people think of at first). At some point, they'll link their cruel school peers' jokes with the image of their gay uncle. 2 of my nephews are 13 & I've spent so little time w/them living states away...what will they think of Uncle Joe (me), when I'm able to see them, or maybe field their question, oh lord it could get messy! 😳
