Generally, I agree with your sentiment, however (unhinged rant incoming): I absolutely despise it when GameFreak tries to change up the formula. I like the Pokémon franchise because the original formula works so dang well. So when they fudged it up with SMUSUM, I hated it. SWSH were for me what SV were for you: I had fun playing Shield after Ultra Moon was such a drag. Also, I absolutely love Brilliant Diamond, it’s such an immaculate remake, getting the smallest of details just right. Hilariously enough I really dislike Legends Arceus, I mean, they changed up the formula even more than last time and I won’t even try to finish my playthrough. Scarlet & Violet however… even if the idea of an open world Pokémon game does seem somewhat interesting… my gosh they really bodged these games. The story was just absolutely awful, the visuals & performance even worse. And why am I forced to dress up my character in these ugly school uniforms? While you’re within the academy, I can see why. But you’re traveling across the whole country, nobody would ever do that in their school uniform… Okay, I’ll go back to playing Y now. First time I’m ever replaying that game, a decade after I originally played it.

I agree scarlet and violet had massive potential. GameFreak to me feels like they've always got something special going on deep down in their creative mind but never (and I do mean NEVER) execute it right lol. The concept of what Pokémon is fundamentally I think has immense potential to grow in the fully flushed out 'idea' of what they (and we) wanted Scarlet/Violet to be, same goes for Legends Arceus. But it's always just bits and pieces, never everything. There was just too much off the mark in what we now obviously see as the rush to get the game out on time. All the glitches, all the tutorials, all all all these new gimmicks. Uhh. Exhausting is definitely a word I use to describe modern day Pokémon, but I still do and always will love it to death. Also the "kiddie" vibe every game since X and Y heavily leaned into, can't stand it. Make it for everyone already, you know?
