This was my first ever Zelda game. I remember reading the booklet hundreds of times. The booklet added so much to the lore, gave the game deep sense that there is a lot behind the legend of Zelda, the opening sequence about the sages, brave knights, golden power, the imprisoning war and the exploration made this the most memorable Zelda game I have ever played.

I still have mine, cover and all. Wouldn't say it's my favorite, PSP version is better, imo. I was trying to get all or most of the Augments, that way I could edit my team to have any skills I wanted. But the battles are too slow.

Engage is by far the best one to play first. Introduces all the lords like the video mentioned it can help choose the next one to play Is also superior than 3 houses on technical, gameplay and visually wise. Sure 3 houses has 4 routes but you will be doing almost the exact same maps for half the maps and halfway the story changes but still shares a few maps between all 4, so there is that. With engage you can just skip the story, try different builts and units and play, plus like I said Engage just shit all over 3houses in almost every other way beside the story and sure the designs are....questionable or dumb but 3 houses they use Uniforms, they are generic asf, plus this games are supposed to be replayed Not to mention between the 2 engage is more challenging, have more options, meanwhile in 3 houses everyone could be anything but only a few classes are really good, of course you could always not play optimal and that's fine the game lets you since is a joke of a game if you want to have a good time, not worry about gameplay and enjoy a good cast of character and 4 routes then there is no contest, 3 houses is the FE for you but be warned that all other FE games arent like 3 houses. Houses is the EXCEPTION not the rule. As for Engage I played 8 times but only beat it 3 times.

I'm not sure that there's anything needing to be defended in ALttP. It was a solid game for the time, it's a solid game today, has had (as you pointed out) a number of ports, has a dedicated speedrunning community, and is a pinnacle example of what randomizer games should be. It even has a fan created procedurally generated roguelike version that was released last year. It's fair to say it stood the test of time. But as a person who grew up with the OG NES games, I gotta tell you that when this game was released, Nintendo really pulled all the stops when it came to thinking outside the box on the game's design, as well as the marketing. Nintendo Power put out a series of comics that went through facets of the game, to really make the story and the lore a bit more grandiose. The full embodiment of ALttP when combining all factors was really quite immersive for the time. But I don't think that's why it stands out the way it does compared to other Zelda games. It's simple, it's fair, it's vast, it's colorful and detailed, the soundtrack is great, and of course it's nostalgic. I don't think anyone could count this game as underrated. It hit all the right checks at the time, and it's certainly held in higher regard than a lot of other Zelda titles that came out since then.

I'd say this is probably my favorite Metroid game. Only Zero Mission and Dread come close, and between the three games, all three feel significantly unique to the point that I think a person who only plays those three would be able to get a very solid feel for the entire franchise. Except for maybe Metroid Prime Pinball...

I'd like to start off by saying that I'm super happy you gave this game another try and that you thoroughly enjoyed it. However, you're comments in the video and your premise of needing to defend the game made me realize that this is where we are now in the videogame lifecycle that even some "older gamers" such as yourself don't just inherently know that a Link to the Past is one of the greatest games ever made. Scary thought really, but that is the reality of time I guess. Here's to cheering on the future generations to play our old amazing games!

One thing modern gamers will never understand about this game, is that we played it during a time before internet, and before every secret had been discovered. I remember kids at school having wild theories of how to get heart containers, or neighborhood boys trading secrets and advice. I remember only one kid in my neighborhood had beaten it, and he moved away. So i would literally call him like "dude how did you get the red boomerang?" Or "how do you get to that one treasure chest?" This is one aspect of gaming i truly miss. The mystery and wonder of it all. The social aspect, the collaborative team effort. I wish younger generations could experience that.

So, while game literacy and knowing some of the catalogue of your publisher is a big thing, as awell as communication (Nintendo tends to be overbearing with 3rd parties working directly on their IPs, and with metroid Prime that was obnoxious with big N demanding the teeniest little model changes), I still think that the whole dark & light world HAS to be one of the most basal story tropes. Not that I can point to a lot of things. But still.
