Just a brief demonstration on the the A1 Pro.
So far, I'm very impressed.
I'm going to make more videos about this knife because I feel this is the ultimate wilderness knife.
My next A1 will be waterstone sharpening.
Stick around.

oh man! you got me really excited about this. I wanna get mine as quick as possible. I'm very pleased with how CoS steel sharpens and takes an edge. I just finished waterstone sharpening mine and the edge is crazy sharp. Especially sharp for the relatively large angle it still has. CoS steel seems to take stropping quite well also and holds a very nice edge. I definitely saw a difference between CoS and VG-10 in edge retention. Thanks for the video mate! awesome. You're the first with an 'in action' video of the a1 pro. When I make my first vids with the A1 I'll link them to yours.

Thanks Brother! Cobalt Special is becoming my favorite steel. Your going to love this knife. The handle, the balance, the geometry. Amazing. I look forward to your video. I'll have to share my waterstone reprofliing work on this baby in another video. Take care Homie.

Higher working hardness at 61-62 hrc without a loss in toughness and stainless. Sightly more wear resistant. Takes a better edge ; feels more aggressive and holds a better edge at both high polish (3000 grit and above) and lower grit. 300-1000. If your a good sharpener and care for high performance edges for field craft. Then the performance is huge. If you can't sharpen good and don't care and like working edges, high wear resistance etc. Then it is a waste.

+Big Brown thanks for the video! would really love a sharpening video of that knife. I've got a A1 PRO as well but i am having difficulties in sharpening the beast even though I used BR compounds and leather strops. Probably my angle or something is not right? I had a small chip so went to use 600 grit sandpaper, then 1000 grit, then moved on to BR black and white compounds. After 600 and 1000 grit, the blade is sharp, cuts paper well but can't pop off my hairs. The black compound and white does not increase much the sharpness i find. I most likely might be something wrong. Would love your feedback and tips on that! thanks again for sharing. Great videos and reviews!
@FearNoSteel
@FearNoSteel 8 жыл бұрын
josh nc if you can't pop hairs, think "Apex" not "Finish" Either your not getting a burr or your angle is inconsistent. After the burr, reduce it with a one pass per side and extremely light pressure. If the burr is way big, pull the edge through a piece of wood. This allows one shave hair even with a 400 grit stone Remember, it's the apex not the finish. Also if your sharpening at too steep an angle, you just won't get that performance. I find 20° per side the best all around angle. I post a video soon with the dc4 and how I like to sharpen. Ask me if you have more questions. Shawn.

The way you looked at that fire - should we be concerned? LOL All kidding aside, I was wondering if you had any experience with Bark River knives? Fallkniven and BR are two companies making convex grind knives (not many companies make convex since it has to be ground by a human, no cnc or other machines can grind them). How do BR and Fallkniven compare?

Had it for a while, truly exceptional. Larger survival knives are generally not very good for allround use. This one isnt either obviously but its better than most knives like this at almost every task. Alot better actually thanks to the geometry. The only thing I did not like is the sheath. It works well and the quality is there but it just makes things bulkier than it has to be. Also tried the leather, didnt like it. Eventually settled for a kydex sheath by aramatus. I carry it horisontally and its like its not even there. Made me realise this knife really isnt that big. The original sheath is probably better in the wet or cold.

Thank you for sharing an actual in use vid! How easy does the CoS steel sharpen compared to VG-10? Personally I find VG-10 easy to maintain even when field sharpening is required. I'm hoping CoS is easy to sharpen as well and not ridiculous like S30V or the like. Thanks again.
@FearNoSteel

Sharpens just like vg10 but takes a crisper edge. Strops great too. It's not like S30v It's like a vg10 Plus

Wow, now I may have to get one! I was on the fence about investing in one bc my VG10 A1 does a fantastic job and meets my requirement of being easily maintained in the field.. But hearing CoS is just as easy to maintain is a game changer for sure and I can def see one in my future! Thank you again for your response and vids.

It just sharpens better and holds that high sharpness longer. Its something only an affectionado would notice. If you don't freehand sharpen or only use factory edges and geometries then its a waste. Also if your really hard on your edges its also a waste. Just depends man.

So you think this F1 Pro is really excellent as they say? It is one of the best survival knives on the market? It feels better quality than normal F1? Regrinding with stone Fallkniven DC4 is easy? the wire keeps it long? and it is suitable for abuse?
@FearNoSteel
@FearNoSteel 8 жыл бұрын
I think it's a more" refined " version. The sharpening takes practice The blade can take more abuse but ANY sharp edge will chip. If you like sharp knives, don't abuse them. Experienced users will get more out of a sharper knife

I just took delivery of one of these today. I bought it on Amazon for $322 -- which is at least $70 less than anyone else is selling them for. The seller was The Ozark Source and, immediately after I bought mine they put another one up for the same price. Fallkniven now puts a "Hidden Tag" on the outer box of all the knives they sell, which you can use, in combination with a smart phone, to authenticate the knife. Unfortunately, mine was shipped without any other box -- and only the plastic box came inside the shipping box. It does look authentic -- it's a convex grind right down to the edge, and I can see a lamination line (but that has been faked on some counterfeits) -- previous Fallkniven counterfeits don't have a convex grind. I took a bunch of pictures and sent them to Fallkniven for their opinion. I'll post a response if I find out it's a fake...Good video though. Thanks for posting it.
@GetMeThere1

Interesting ending to my story: Fallkniven confirms the knife is genuine -- and then tells me it is not covered by warranty because it was not purchased by a registered dealer. They pointed me to a page on their website which states this -- and specifically states that they will not service knives purchased online at low prices! It even states "save your receipt." I think that's rather a crummy way of doing business but....I don't regret buying the knife because I can't imagine it needing service, really. It's an AWESOME knife, IMO.

So, why did you have to cut down a live one for a demonstration; with all that deadfall laying around? Try a small birds nest of fine tinder to catch those sparks, before adding your feather sticks; otherwise that ferro rod will wear down to a nub before the next winter thaw......... that way, you could have demonstrated starting the fire with the knife, instead of the little scraper.

Why? There's already hundreds of videos on youtube demonstrating such techniques in fire making. I know it sounds like it; but I'm not trying to sound like a smart-ass. I'm just trying to help you make a better video. And yes, I am a bit of an ass when it comes to forest conservation; we're losing so much of it across the globe everyday, I tend to be a bit blunt when I see live, young trees being chopped to pieces. For that, I apologize. Peace

Roll the branch as you chop, and you will cut through that thing way easier, and save the blade in the long run. You are using a knife for an axe's job, which is great to test the knife, but you can take it a little easy on that blade, if not for the cost of the damned thing, then for the care it took to craft it.
@FearNoSteel
@FearNoSteel 8 жыл бұрын
Haha nah, Thanks for your input though :) I believe it's would be a shame not to use a 7mm thick $300+ knife this way. Also it would be an insult to the maker too! Structure meets purpose of course. If I was using a Puukko Id do things differently ;)
