Hey wako, It is an honor to see our strop in your video! The 0.5 micron is actually 1 micron. It equals 14.000 grit which is about the same as white compound (12.000 grit) so you are very correct. Diamond compound in my opinion starts shining on steels with harder carbides like powdered steels with a lot of vanadium in it. I too use white compound for my softer steels but feel like this diamond compound is superior for super steels. I also feel like 1 micron leaves a toothier edge with more bite which should be better for cutting deer skin for hunting. For us this compound is the only one so far we liked better than bark river compound. The 0.25 (100.000 grit) is indeed a real finisher after 1 micron. Especially nice for kitchen knives but often 1 micron or white compound will be enough. Glad you liked the strop! Happy 2019 and I hope your hunting season is good! Take care and all. The best.

Welcome back good sir . I prefer the smooth side of the leather for stropping rather than the rough as in that dbk strop as you have to only sweep the blade in one direction when it's like that as you go against the grain half the time. Plus it gives a poorer edge in my opinion as you have loads of rough little peaks and troughs to deal with rather than smooth side leather. Also have you tried the blue compound called "smurf poo" in the UK. It's good to use before the white compound.
@JonnyParker-5 жыл бұрын
@@johnfadds6089 I find that you're right about an aspect of what you say as in over stropping , yeah it can round the edge but not if you use very light pressure and like I say also on a smooth side leather. I don't over cake the leather with compound either . Plus the stones have nothing to do with it and I know how to use waterstones lad, don't take the piss.

I'm glad I started watching your videos more than 5 years ago and started learning to sharpen myself, I've become very good at it - just creating and removing a burr is very easy for me now and can be done in just a couple minutes, or I can relax and fully sharpen a dull or brand new knife in ¬20 minutes. Thank you Wako-san, hope you and your wife & daughter are doing well and happy new year!

If you have "edge troubles" why do you start at 2k grit? Seems like a waste of good stone.

The next coarse stone of mine is Shapton 1k, which seems a little too coarse to restore these minor troubles. But as you mention the 2k grit is a little too fine for the job.
