Tac, I love your vids. I am not a big fan of stainless steel knives, in general, but have been thinking about a knife that would be good for carry when 'out and about' - not necessarily something to carry when I know I am going to be in the woods but more an all-around, multi-environment utility and survival knife probably to carry mostly scout style. I know that the SRK you reviewed was the AUS 8 version and not the newer San Mai version but I am wondering which you liked better, the SRK or the Fallkniven S1 as they both seem very similar in design and intended purpose. Also, are the S1 and SRK enough 'better' than the Gerber Strongarm for such a role to justify the price in your opinion? I have been looking pretty hard at the SRK and the Strongarm and also at the Ontario SP46 (which a high carbon, non-stainless knife gives it just a little bit of an edge, for me) and would like your thoughts or any other suggestions you might have. I like that the SRK and Strongarm sheaths would be good to go for scout carry but I can make a sheath if need be so that isn't really an issue.

Hi Tac. Very good review. Could you let us know how the VG10 holds up over time? I have several Shun Classic chefs knives that use the 420/VG10 San Mai blade. I agree that it gets insane sharp but I was under the impression the VG10 can chip under harder use.I cannot speak highly enough of the edge sharpness though.
@D33Lux8 жыл бұрын
I like your vids tac because you don't baby your knives, you PUT THEM TO WORK! Almost all my knives are used well, that's the real test, putting them to the everyday work. I have some knives that were gifts so I don't beat them up, but I've still used them to widdle wood, hack some branches....etc. My toughest knife has to be my leatherman sidekick, I've hammered nails with it, cut copper wire with the cutter, used the pliers to hold metal parts when using a propane torch to hold pieces to heat up, used it to hold steel parts while using a dremel grinder, used it as a bullet puller, those leatherman multi-tools are built to last. My only gripe is no checkered gripping or anything and its slick when it gets wet or oily.

Yes, own them both (VG10 steel). If I had to choose which one to keep, I would say F1 only because of its size... more practical to carry.

Had an S1 for 15 years. I think it works just fine for typical forest work, hunting and fishing. Skip the kydex sheath, get a leather dangler instead. It is much handier in the woods. It's not a pretty knife but it does it job well.

No problem. Cold Steel also has two/three versions of the SRK too. They have a San Mai III version that's laminated steel like the Fallkniven S1 shown here. The second/third versions have one of two steels, VG1 or AUS8 depending on when it was made. I think VG1 models are the more recent if memory serves.
