You may end up liking that size tire more than if you had used a bigger tire like one from a semi. When they're bigger, they will stand in the feed (and can poop in it at times) but with the one you have, they won't be able to do that so it will result in less lost feed.
@nateostrenga7551 Жыл бұрын
Something to think about investing in for moving the barrels and such (if you don't already have them) is either a set of quick attach pallet forks, or bucket mount pallet forks. You could have a pallet in your truck to put all the feed stuff on, and then just move the pallet to your feed storage areas.

This is such wonderful content, thank you for educating us and showing us that one learns on the way as one goes. I grew up on a farm but we never had pigs just something very small scale but still see your little boy run around reminded me of myself when I was little and I ran around my grandparents helping them feed the chickens and the ducks. I can't say how much I appreciate this and it's wonderful that you're raising your little one this way and showing him how to take care of the land and be self-sufficient. Keep up the good work, don't get hurt, I saw where you cut your finger. You're doing great 😃👍 Bless you and your family 🙏💖.

Years ago i raised hogs, 8 at a time and all were Durocs, found a local farmer that had a weiner operation and had a good source. For feed, I found bagged feed was too expensive, once the timing was right and bought a ton of custom mixed hog grower from the pig farmer but had to bag or barrel it up and the feed was really too hot, I then found a local feed place that had ground corn rolled oats and barley in bulk. I would buy a ton at a time along with the mineral suppliment and i added feed mollassas to it it was available in 5 gallon buckets. It kept the feed dust down and made it more palatable, used a large cement mixer to mix my feed and to store, the barrels back then were metal with the removeable tops. my cost was a 1/3 the cost of bagged feed and the hogs grew just as fast, I had some work involved mixing but not bad. Made the hog operation much more profitable as I sold the hogs to individuals for meat, had them commercially processed and the customer picked up their meat at the processer, cut wrapped and smoked.

Wes, It looked like you were trying to set a land speed record with the beep- beep jeep, covering up all the seed you put down. That was a good idea to take the bucket off before harrowing the field. Aside from the wear and tear on the loader, as you mentioned, it puts more weight on the rear of the tractor, which is where you want it, along with that length of pipe. If you really wanted to put more weight on the harrow, you could fill it with concrete. How long , btw, did it take to do that field?
@falllineridge Жыл бұрын
I think it took about 3 hours to plant both fields and film it. I think taking the loader off helped a good bit with putting weight on the back (didn't even think of that, but the harrow did a really nice job), but it didn't help much with wear and tear. Still bounced around a lot. Next time I'll probably take the entire FEL off.

Never cut the bead with the sawzall. Use a razor knife to cut the side wall then insert the sawzall blade to finish the sidewall cut out. Your welcome from the professor of work smarter not harder.... Also you need a semi size tire because the pigs will knock that over as the feeder empites and they grow bigger. Just thought of something.... how about those thick mats that go in the back of a stock trailer. heavy thick rubber. cut to fit as a base with the tire on top of it. use bolts with fender washers on the inside of your feed barrel and at a few points on the tire sidewall touching the mat. everything locks in place. pigs would have to work hard to push that over.

@falllineridge Жыл бұрын

@ryry82109 ай бұрын
Please consider using a bowl insert for the tires. If the edge wears down exposing more steel wire, it has the possibity of cutting the pigs 😬 If the wire breaks off into the food, pieces could be ingested by the pigs, causing internal damage. There is also the potential of chemicals from the tires leaching into the pig food.

Great update Wes. Good saving on the Pig feed, but does the electric for the Corn Grinder and your time to mix & make it come into it? Stay safe & well. 👍👍
@buck3409 Жыл бұрын
You are only saving a third after you have paid for your equipment. Other factors apply too. It's probably costing you more than store bought prior to that. If you continue to do this for long enough, then it should payout. And that's also dependent on the life of the equipment and repair cost of the equipment and the electricity used and your labor time is valuable. Not to step on your toes, but it's not so simple. In your operation all this is not so critical, but when managing a big corporation, it is. ROR (rate of return it's called). The feed company that made the feed you bought is probably a small company, but they probably know this. Regardless of all that wasteful talk by me. You have some great videos.

Howdy, former pig farmer here. I suspect that the pigs will waste a lot of feed using that feeder. A good hog feeder will last for many years and will pay for itself in less than a year in feed saved. Watch and see how much of your feed ends up on the ground. Just saying from my experience.

I'm hoping you can give me some advice. I have an LT15W that I've only had for a few months and I'm having trouble cutting pine boards. With hardwoods, it seems to be doing a really good job of cutting an even height, even in live oak. With larger (16"-24") longleaf pine, the blade wants to wander up and down following softer grain; sometimes as much as 1/2" above or below the set height. Do you have this issue? I believe I've got the tension right, got lubrication running well, and a sharp blade. Generally, it begins to wander as it approaches a knot, follows the new path, and then continues to dive or climb after. I've got the blade guide pulled in as close as I can. Any advice would be appreciated.
@falllineridge Жыл бұрын
Totally normal in pine. I've read that you can slow down and that helps (I've probably done it, but can't really remember the outcome). It's interesting that it's continuing to do that after the knot...usually it corrects after the knot. I read a suggestion of using carbide blades, but have not tried it.
@Galleitch Жыл бұрын
Are the teeth set over? If you have a cheaper belt and they haven't been set they will wander more. Also worth looking to see the blade is truly parallel with the bed; if there's any tilt up it will want to climb
