My theory is NBC had to passify and appease Lauer's ego, paying him $25M-30M/year before his epic fall from grace. Many still swear that Lauer had a big hand in getting Ann Curry canned from Today back 12 years ago, and I also couldn't help noticing how other on-air talents (like Savannah Guthrie and Kathie Lee Gifford as notable examples) backed Lauer like he was this martyr, and like he was so awesome, and were apparently cool with NBC publicly humiliating Ann Curry like they did. This is also the same NBC that had PR problems with talent and management, including Andy Lack putting the kibosh on Ronan Farrow's Harvey Weinstein exposé, Brian Williams' Iraq war embellishment story, to Linda Vester's sexual harassment allegations against Tom Brokaw, NBC talents getting all up in arms over the hiring and firing of Ronna Romney McDaniel, the Dateline NBC exploding fuel incident that resulted in Brian Ross getting fired, and other notable scandals. I'd imagine the same things are also happening at ABC, CBS, Fox, and CNN too.

We met her at the today show for my mom’s 50th birthday, that’s all she wanted was to meet Hoda. She held up her sign we made tv and got pictures with Hoda all the way from Aroostook county Maine! She was the sweetest human just like you see on tv. I am excited for her new journey but will miss her so much ❤

I wish the wonderful Hoda every happiness in life, but MAN am I going to miss her. When I was alone, not working and bored to death during COVID lockdowns she and the Today Show crew continually kept me positive and inspired; they seemed so much like a loving family and I looked at them as valued friends. Hoda's endless warmth, compassion, kindness, energy and sense of fun continue to make her show the vital beginning of my day. And she is unbelievably lovely AND lovable: the lady has 10, 000 assorted smiles and none of them are the same. Just love her.
