Fallout 2d20 RPG -- Starter Set Review (Modiphius)

To celebrate the launch of Amazon's new series based on the Fallout videogame series, I thought I'd present a review of the starter set for the 2d20 RPG based on the Fallout videogame series :)
I have to say this starter set does a great job of giving players and GMs a taste of this rich system, which lies on the crunchier side of the 2d20 spectrum. The separation of the set into a reasonably hefty 50+ starter rulebook and an equally hefty multi-part adventure sets the appropriate expectations: this is a crunchy, violent game set in a harsh world, and also, be prepared to get your limbs blown off from time to time!
Next week I've got a different video in the editing queue, but following that we'll take a look at the Fallout 2d20 Core Rulebook, then the two massive rules expansions (The Settler's Guide and the Wanderer's Guide). At some point after that, we'll look at Mutant: Year Zero as well, for those on the lookut for a lighter post-apocalypse experience :)

For anyone having trouble finding the special dice and have Fate dice, just paint in one of the "-" signs in on each die, so that you have a 1 the (-) minus sign, "2" with a different color (-) minus sign, 2 "+" for the special symbols and 2 blanks, so they will match the challenge dice exactly. And you can still use them as Fate dice. The d20s are just normal d20s.

Been playing this for the past couple months and my group loves it. We are all DnD 5e players and we all prefer this 2d20 system to 5e

If I have the core rulebook coming in the mail, do I need to buy the starter set also? (Other than a PDF, the starter set is not currently available for purchase.)

The starter set is handy, given the pre-gen characters and intro adventure, but not necessary :) Your players will need to whip up their own characters, and you'll need to come up with something for them to do -- but honestly both of these are really fun to do, and with the richness of the Fallout Universe, it's not too hard to just send the players off into the Wasteland and get them started having fun right away!
