When you really analyze it, it is problematic, but think about it like this: The player character if we use IRL time scaling would likely take years maybe even a decade from stepping out of that vault to the endgame then it would be more believable. This is a Bethesda game however, pacing is not their strong suit. (The voice acting is solid S-Tier though)

Really bad that Bethesda made Fallout 4, in the fucked up post-apocalipse that is the universe with so many adult themes, drug usage, prostitution, rape, etc. And yet.... they didn't add anything besides the "I love you/I love you too" sequence to the romances. Not even a kiss, or a hug, no showing of affection at all, just two people staring at each other. Some players get really involved with the characters, it's part of the fun in videogames/roleplaying (like me and lots of people did with Morrigan in the Dragon Age series), and Bethesda just ignored it completely. Kate is one of my favorite companions in Fallout 4 because she's tough out there she watches your back but sometimes they could be very hard or stress with her because if you're a nice person you want to help and be polite sometimes she doesn't like that.. you have to be either rude or sometimes ask for more money in a certain reward then she starts to like you... Piper is like that to where you can be a nice person and help people and she'll love that and I do love Piper II close to Kate but there's something about Kaden that makes her special... for a person like me that makes so many mistakes and did have a certain drug problem that really destroyed my life it takes everything away from you including your friends and family.. after so many years now with help it's finally overcoming your demons.. and you're trying to put your life back together but you made it so hard maybe even impossible but you have to keep on going and just keep going keep fighting inch by inch and then maybe one day you can turn it around and be proud of who you are and then maybe you can reach out to others.. and Kate Isaac is that person they can train her for life around

Kates hard luck story makes you want to care for and protect her. If you have tried the Heather MOD she also has a heart wrenching story that makes you want to just grab her and hug her to try to make her feel better and safe from all the bad in the Commonwealth. I believe the character creator has done a fantastic job of immersion when you have legit emotional feelings for their fictional creations. Bethesda get one thing out of 100 right. The moderators do the rest best.
