Fallout 4 Guide - Fix the ruined houses in Tenpines + County Crossing

As per request I've made a short video on how to fix the ruined houses in both Tenpines Bluff and County Crossing.
They're actually the same house, so this does work on both.

+dembot24 I bet that was planned and got cut because the settlements were their relax-work. If I were a settler then I would not want to live in these houses with garbage piles everywhere, leacky roofs and giant holes in the walls.Hopefully the workshop DLC will have a fix but I fear it does not.

dembot24 It really, really would. At least the mods will help us out on PC. There is even a (broken) mod that allows us to repair the houses ingame but it screwed a lot of people last time I checked. I am sure there will be at least one working one once the GECK is out and everyone (maybe?) can use mods.

+dembot24 I agree! All that hammering they do on the ONE house, it'd be nice if they actually fixed it. I got so fed up I got a mod to allow me to delete the "hammer animation" because, really, they're just making noise on a structure I've rebuilt! I'd like to be able to send out the scavver guy, have him bring pieces, and have the others use those pieces to truly repair and maintain the homes they're supposed to live in and care for. I can't be at ALL the settlements ALL the time, lol!

Love these!👍🏻 Before you shown me the pillar technique, I used to fix those two houses in a similar fashion. I used to start with the foundation of the building, then add a wood staircase(one with the platforms) to the top floor, and use a foundation floor block to help sink'em in. I think it works well, especially with CC, because the stairs "stay away" from the workstation. Then all there is to mess it up is that line oil lamp on the inner floor. I've also done this with Murkwater Construction Site. 👍🏻 Take Care!

Thanks so much for doing this! I was able to do the County Crossing house with the rug but I didn't realize you could also do this with foundations. This'll be really helpful for Tenpines Bluff where the land's not as flat. Gonna try this method some time this week. Really like these little tip videos by the way!

Thanks doctor, I never thought of using objects other than the rug. That foundation seemed to work fairly well. I was getting sick of those little shit boxes and contemplating just filling the bastards with concrete and building on top of them.

That's awesome! My advice though - Don't use the rotate buttons to try and do small and precise rotations, simply look to the left or right. You can rotate super slow and it's great for getting the perfect angle you need. You might have to move a little forwards or backwards from time to time as your character is now the center of rotation and not the object.

Liking the vids, really opened my eyes to the possibilities. The rug glitch is a beast. One of your videos showed aligning walls within the broken walls, and that has been the most useful tip for me. I was able to put a few walls into the county cross/tenpine structures, and with a little luck on the placement( a bit fiddly as you say), I was then able to snap other roof and wall pieces in and create some nice workshop on bottom/living quarters on top structures. Good stuff mate!

Ah yes, the ancient techniques! I will make sure to take notes. I just watched an Oxhorn video about an efficiency build and found out that I build a huge guard tower with scrap fencing and a train wagon to house guards on top of a spawn point. Now I got to ease my pain by watching your videos so I can create another pretty corner that can stay long term.

Nicely done. That's my third largest settlement. I fixed that building as well, but long before I knew about bypassing the object collision using the concrete blocks. It was a royal pain in the ass.

Thanks for this, I used your first floor idea, this combined with a few console commands (PC Player, to get rid of the starting mattresses) and my farmers/guards/provisioners at Tenpines have much better sleeping quarters, and I got a nice place to stash my power armor

Nice trick! I usually just build a stair (the one with small platforms on both ends) beside the ruined house, then snapped several floors to the top platforms and simply build a new floating house on top of the ruined one. :)

Any idea when Abernathy Farms settlement is coming up, and when you do it, are you going to utilize the 21 story high build limit? Also, quick (awesome) tip with Abernathy Farm (and this was a *major bitch* to figure out), the settlement borders are nearly/exactly 11 concrete blocks wide and 34 concrete blocks long. What this means is that instead of deciding to just start a build in some random plot of ground and then building different structures near it (assuming it'll be some what similar to your Sunshine Tidings, Castle, and other settlements where you've got different buildings near it) you can actually have them evenly spaced or connected perfectly to each other. I was able to build a small town (on PS4) that had streets, avenues, and alleyways running down the length and width of the settlement. I even was able to perfectly incorporate the pre-existing structure to my build by figuring out the exact distances between it and my own structures. And a lot of my buildings have sky bridges that are perfectly snapped to each other, and guess what? EVERY Building can potentially *snap* to another if i want it to, whether they're by each other or on the other side of the settlement border, all i've got to do is build a bridge. I really think you should try this out, and this could be applied to other settlements with 90 degree borders, it just takes a lot of dicking around. Also, I need you to declare me the real Preston before those other Prestons try and steal my identity like on your last vid, that'd be grand

When you run out of building space instead of dropping a bunch of items and scrapping them to free up a large chunk of space you can simply attach and then store a wire to allow you to build one thing at a time so you minimize the risk of crashing your game by getting carried away freeing up and using more space than you need if your just doing the final touches just be sure to have the item you want to build selected in the menu before you store the wire if you don't then it won't work also if you try to cycle through the build menu after you store the wire it will go back to saying you can't build more.

Mine will not go down past the lantern. The lantern cannot be taken away. Have they done something like a patch where floors can no longer be merged with static world items or something? I took off the floor pieces that clash with the floor lantern and the house places down no problem but now the floor looks so uneven without those pieces. 😢

Cool I actually did what you did before this video. I was messing with the rug glitch and got to look really good. You should do a settlement on a sky bridge. I know gray garden has part of the sky bridge in its boundaries. I'd like to see what you could do with it.

(and you can always create a new character too) I'm doing let's build videos, and I have certainly had those same thoughts, but I'd rather scrap it all and do it over. I learn and or figure out new build techniques all the time, so I keep it mind for the next build, or the next playthrough, etc.

Awesome video as usual. Just wondering a little about settlement defence, do you build junk fences around the perimeters of all your settlements? Given that some of the settlements are quite large and have a lot of area to encircle, eg. Sanctuary, Abernathy farm, would this not be a significant drain on steel and wood resources? Or do you just suck it up and buy mass shipments of wood and steel?

+spinedctr if you connect all your settlements and scrap averything you can in all of them you end up with a ton of wood and metal. you can also scrap pipe guns for steel.

It is actually quite sad and disappointing that you need to glitch the game to do what you want with settlement building (not to mention the lack of an in-depth tutorial to help you with controls, I JUST found out a few days ago that you could select all objects that were attached to one another). I really hope the workshop DLC can address some of these issues that restrict some freedom with building.

+DARK-EVIL-GODS21 That's why if you want to have freedom in Elder Scrolls or Fallout you need to play on a PC trust me its worth it. There are mods that allow you to place items in red zones which comes in handy when you are fixing shit like this. They say mods are coming to console but lets be real, It wont happen for quite a while and even if it does it wont have the freedom that PC mods have.

so you don't need the rug and the column to glitch in whole houses or house parts into existing structures? you can use the concrete foundation...can you also use the wooden shack foundation...my question is, can you pull off similar creations that you have done without the dlc's? i haven't gotten any of the dlc's yet, but i have been constructing settlements, (no where near the scale i've seen you do, but i'm learning), which is why i ask...

Hey! This has actually bugged me for some time, and I thought of just asking away. Do you get the resources through time the ''legit'' way, use exploits or console commands? I've had great visions of a trade empire built by my character, but always when I get the groove on I seem to run out of resources. I've run to few exploits and know how to use the console commands, but like doing it legit that I find the supplies myself... Any hints?

+Synkrotta He's on a PS4, so no console commands, and he does everything legit. He gets his resources by buying shipments, which he funds with drug sales. Remember that you don't actually have to pay caps for anything as long as you have goods to barter with.
