As someone who watched a lot of Westerns with his grandfather growing up, I can tell you for a fact the scene that reminded you of Inglorious Bastards was taken from a 1956 John Ford/John Wayne movie called (The Searchers). It is one of the most famous Western scenes ever filmed.

28:06 It’s one way you could be a ghoul (like how that one character in Fallout 4 drank something and became a ghoul), but most of the time people turn into ghouls from being irradiated without dying till they mutate into one. We’re not even sure if Thaddeus is a ghoul, he might be, he might be something else. Not enough is shown to say either.

@@kanpai_ky my guess is that it was something else. The rotated big toe as the healing was shown could be a red hering but also be a clear giveaway that something was not right like his foot is healing but also mutating at the same time.

actually non of the games gives an explanation on how they got ghoulified. however the show introdueces some new ideas, like the drug addiction to stay sane. there even are lore holes, like fallout4 has this ghoul kid which shouldnt exist at all. because lore wise ghouls grow normally and are than stuck in they adult form. and new vegas has the... mother tree which also shouldnt happen lore wise. game lore wise it would make more sense if he turns into something else like a supermutant, those are humans infected by the FEV Virus which is an injection. however other species in the game got created too, like the gulper in vault 4, acutally gulper lore is older, their origin comes from the fallout2 cut content pack.
@placeboobshere54585 ай бұрын
@aigleincomments9532 It's possible that there are different types of ghouls. It would be weird if everyone mutated into the exact same mutation. Would radiation target everyone at the same DNA to create the exact same thing? Some ghouls may not even be capable of going feral.
@aigleincomments95325 ай бұрын
@@placeboobshere5458 the thing is your assumptions are based on the real world ignoring francize lore. there is no lore to ghouls at all, we dont even know if the unsheltered nuke expierince created them or sth else entirely. and even if the nukes are responible, their purpose might have been exactly that. // nukes in fallout are different from our world, smaller radius, way more radiation, less heat/force. and ever since fallout3 we know the origin of those nukes. so the possibility is in the room, that their effect on the people got tested prior to the war. so yes it might be not random at all but a forced "evolution". but in the end thats a story bethesta has yet to tell.

9:00 The experiments in 12? 10:40 The majority of vaults are indeed social experiments. That's why almost all of the ones you encounter in the games are in a failed state and you have to puzzle together what happened there. 16:24 I think you missed the point that the experiments were done by the original inhabitants of Vault 4 (the one you saw in the advert in the previous episode). The current inhabitants do not do that, but instead are helping those people who drop through the trap door instead of using them. 4 is a girl, but I can't help but laugh at the irony in having her stuck at a place called "Red Rocket" (slang for erect dog dongs).

I knew they toned down the ghouls look but i didn't realize how much they toned it down till i recently replayed fallout 3. They looked much more like walking corpses in that game. Skin with patches of green, purple, and black. Eyes clouded over, and skibe rotted away to show muscle and bone underneath. They really toned down ghouls in fallout 4 and then toned those down for this show.
@Dark__Thoughts5 ай бұрын
Hm, that one ghoul from episode 4 had pretty greyish skin. The decision to go without contacts was a conscious one because it helped convey the more human emotions of Coop, through his otherwise hard outer shell. I do like the introduction of the serum though, because in the games any ghoul, even the good ones, were just ticking time bombs that would eventually endanger others, which made it really hard to sympathize with them.
@markcarpenter60205 ай бұрын
@@Dark__Thoughts no they didn't have greyish skin, they literally looked like rotting meat in fallout 3. And I hate the serum. The whole point of ghouls is they have a tragic fate. You are supposed to look at a ghoul and wonder if maybe dead is better. You are supposed to pity the ones who still have a personality and fear the feral ones.
@Dark__Thoughts5 ай бұрын
@@markcarpenter6020 I know how they looked like in F3, which is nowhere near as different to the show as you make it out to be. I'm also referring to your color statement. And the vials actually give it a moral choice. In the games it was trying to make one, but the fact that all ghouls would eventually turn made it so that it wasn't one at all. There's no point in keeping them alive.
@markcarpenter60205 ай бұрын
@@Dark__Thoughts no there is still the morality of killing them before they go feral. They can last hundreds of years before they turn. Or they could turn tomorrow. That's the dilemma. And if you think they don't look that different take a good look at Carol in underworld or any of the other sentient ghouls there. The only one that looks close to this show is the doctor.
@Dark__Thoughts5 ай бұрын
@@markcarpenter6020 Not really. Since it was a given that they turn there's no question of keeping them alive and having them to be a threat towards others.

Both the opening scene of this episode and Inglorious Basterds are inspired by "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly", although this is closer to the original (and the scene in episode 3 where The Ghoul pours out the last of his canteen when Lucy asks for water is also based on a scene from that film). I'm always on the fence about about recognizable cameos in shows like this that might take you out of the world, but I loved Fred Armisen being an audiophile in the post-apocalyptic wasteland (and props to the editor for putting in a clip from Portlandia that's basically Armisen playing himself and going to meet the mayor/Kyle MacLachlan; that was a good touch). I've enjoyed your reactions, but am on the fence about the beer pairing aspect. At firs it sounded like a great idea, but you keep drinking things that aren't available even in NorCal. For some reason AleSmith isn't popular here, and finding anything fresh from someone like Port is a chore. I need to try more cold IPAs; the few I've had struck me as almost as nonsensical as session IPAs (that's a lot of "as's"), but I've only tried a couple.

I need to see “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly”. A commenter mentioned the ghoul feels like a Clint Eastwood character too. Yeah, I'm not crazy about the way they depict a "red scare" in this show. It doesn't make sense. It's the one thing that bothers me about this show. They are in a hot war with China. Chinese spies are prevalent during that period of the 2070s. They were literally building secret bunkers in the US. There shouldn't be such thing as a "red scare." It's not a conspiracy, its a reality in the Fallout world. And the mystery tech is already available in the games so they really shoehorned this whole hamfisted idea of "capitalism bad" without actually realising how corporatist the world was before the bombs. These corpos are ingrained in government decisions and are in most cases far more powerful than the government. The corporate structure of the Fallout world is not an example of capitalism. There are no free markets in the Fallout world. Vault-Tech might as well be Blackrock on steroids. There's three companies that do everything. That's more like the Soviet Union than anything that resembles capitalism. Wherever you want to put that message, fine. It just doesn't resemble Fallout.
