The thing I love about Mega Venusaur is that it was less of a straight buff like most mega evos, but rather something that allowed it to operate on a different paradigm. You could run non-mega Venusaur as a sun sweeper, OR you could run the mega as a special tank. More megas should have given pokemon that kind of versatility.

To give a more detailed explanation on how it is currently faring in Gen 9 NU (as of June 2024): it has been a rollercoaster ride for it. When it first dropped to NU, it was alongside Ninetales and Hisuian Lilligant. Sun absolutely annihilated the tier when they first dropped, and while Venusaur was of course an integral part of Sun cores, Sun's brokenness purely came from Lilligant-Hisui, who was hilariously broken both with and without Sun. It was no surprise that Lilligant-Hisui got booted out of the tier fairly quickly, but once that happened, Sun became a rather unpopular playstyle for a few months in the tier. Venusaur was still a solid mon in the tier, but it was very specific. However everything changed early on in May, when NUPL started. The NU playerbase proceeded to then discover Scovillain, a mon previously languishing in ZU (Untiered). Scovillain was always known as a Sun sweeper, but it was very overlooked for a long time due its flaws (namely its nonexistent bulk). It turns out that Sun cores is an absolutely suffocating presence thanks to Tera Fire Specs Scovillain. Venusaur of course continued to be an integral, mandatory part of Sun cores, but the discovery of Scovillain is what is currently pushing the playstyle to problematic territory. Players even started using inferior Chlorophyll/Fire types in comparison to the aforementioned Villain + Venu combo, and is discovering great success. The discovery of Sun's most powerful core during NUPL is, on top of that, also unleashed a huge wave of exploration within the tier. Manual Rain is becoming far more popular; Mew and Oricorio-Pom Pom cheese sets is also becoming more popular (especially the former); Ditto is becoming more popular; old Pokemon previously NU like Inteleon and Toxtricity has been getting some usage. After a long period of stabilization, NU has become a very volatile tier thanks to NUPL/tournament discoveries and its story is still being written. Edit (6/14/24): Drought just got banned from SV NU. This may mark the end of Venusaur's time in Gen 9, since this means that Drought is banned in PU as well, but we will wait and see.

@TLNT2103-zg3sb6 ай бұрын
It's arguably Blastoise that is the least notable of the trio by this point: - Venusaur is consistently effective with its base form (Chlorophyll is a hell of a boon) and its mega gives a unique form of tanking (Toxic and powder immunity, thick fat on a grass type, beefy defences, e.t.c.). - Charizard is infamous for multiple reasons, mostly its poor performance without megas (Solar Power makes it a glass cannon with too much glass and not enough cannon), its mind games with megas (Either dragon danced to death or immediate blasting), and its extensive history of GameFreak playing favourites. - Blastoise gets rain dish (Outclassed by Tentacruel the one time it's actually useful), and its mega gets Mega Launcher (Good, but not impressive given what the others got), and bulky waters are a dime a dozen. It's the awkward middle child of the Kanto trio, and it shows. Thankfully, things are turning around a little given that it's the highest tiered of the three in RU as of June 2024, but still. EDIT: Okay, I underestimated how much cannon Charizard had with Solar Power, but I get the feeling that its issue with consistency and survivability remains. Please correct me on otherwise.

It was explained in that video though, each tier has a council of ~5-11 people (more usually if it's a more common tier like OU) that handle doing suspect tests or if something is very obviously too strong they decide to quickban it after holding a vote amongst themselves. Becoming a council member of any given tier usually involves proving to be very competent in that tier/previous generations of that tier

Venusaur is my generation 1 starter of choice, and I'm happy to see that it's the most consistently good generaion 1 starter across every generation. Venusaur's stats aren't mimaxxed like modern starters are, but its stat spread is incredibly versatile depending on what you want to do with it. Fast sun sweeper? You got it. Bulky tank? Go nuts. Doubles support? Why not? Venusaur may not be as deadly as Charizard or as bulky as Blastoise, but it can do both surprisingly well, one of the few successful jack-of-all-trades in all of Pokemon.
@wmzer0mw6 ай бұрын
honestly, i would argue saur is way more bulky than stoise given its resistances. Water resists water, fire, steel, where only water and fire are kinda common. Grass has way more useful switchin resists like water, fighting, fairy, and an immunity to leech seed and toxic/ toxic spikes.

Since the remake of older videos started, i was waiting for the starters to get their own videos. First Charizard, now Venusaur, and the next is Blastoise (i hope)

Gonna be honest… I always thought the nickname of that Venusaur in the movie was actually “Frou Frou”

I've been waiting a LONG time for this video. It's time to show why Venusaur is BEST Kanto starter.

While I didn't start at gen 1, my first game was Ruby, I chose Bulbasaur as my second starter in Pokemon Y. My Venusaur, Floral Sapien, proved to be an amazing tank and helped compliment my Greninja. Things got better for it once I got its mega stone and it became a juggernaut. It became one of my best team members and my favorite Kanto starter.

My favorite mon. One of the best designs mechanically of all time. Such a goofy yet charming and menacing artistic design. The perfect mon.

I once beat a M-Venasaur with a Bulky Lanturn with stall burn. The oponent was raging furious that the bulky staller got outbulked and stalled harder. A great memory from Gen 6, but even then, this Mega monster was insanely powerfull at the time. Removing 2 weaknesses by just existing was outrageous, but still a great mon to face and have in a team.
