We are a family of 5, with 2 preschoolers. We have a family closet in our home, which means everyone's clothes are kept in one single closet instead of multiple rooms. It's just another way to live more simply and be more intentional with our time while our kids are still young!

I love that you don’t fold your kids clothes. Why did I never think of this. Also love the concept of a family closet. If we had a closet I would totally do the same. But I like the idea of having a family dresser. Love how practical it is and not having to go to different rooms to put stuff away.

It’s soooo smart that hav backup security items! I know a while ago you bought another hoot because rev loved it sm but I didn’t know you did it with all of their security blankets and stuffed animals. I remember as a kid my brother lost his blankey and it was like the end of the world in my house😂 very smart to buy 2 just in case

I JUST finished putting my kids' clothes back in their own closets after having a family walk-in closet for about a year. It also became the toy rotation closet. It became too "busy" for my husband and I. It was actually my husband that brought it up. I do allready miss it when it comes to putting clothes away. I do have to point out IF ANYONE IN THE COMMENTS has trouble keeping up with laundry, try the family closet , it makes it sooo easy!!

Funny chronic illness thing: I had an almost visceral reaction to seeing Ryan's work from home setup xD If I tried to sit on a stool like that for more than maybe 20 minutes, my whole body would be kiiiilling me. Sometimes I forget that that isn't normal and most people can sit on a stool (or anywhere, for that matter xD) for more than a few hours without needing to lay down haha. My favorite part about my work from home days is that I can work from bed if I'm having a bad pain day haha.

We keep our daughters clothes in our closet as well. Our bathroom currently has the only working shower, (remodeling ourself, so it takes a while) and so it just makes sense. We actually were just discussing this the other day, and decided we like it so much we will continueing doing it this way until she is completely independantly dressing. :)

We have a family closet too! Three kids almost 6, almost 4 and 2- all their clothes are in our closet. I hang their clothes by outfit and their PJs and undies are in baskets under the hanging stuff. I used to never get clothes put away because they were asleep when I really had a chance, now I don’t have that problem.

My son is at an awkward stage of still having a changing table ( potty training) but he now has a twin bed. I just keep all of his clothes in the dresser changing table. I love the family closet idea ❤! I thought of turning his closet into a reading nook.

Just wanted to come over here and say that i watched your Family Closet video last month and my initial thought was "well that is kinda weird" lol THEN a couple of weeks ago I was putting away laundry, going from room to room and thinking of how I'd be going to another room soon to put away clothes when my son is born, and I realized that you aren't weird...YOU'RE A GENIUS! SO I created a family closet and it has changed my laundry life! (I also got rid of our dressers which is in my minimalISH bedroom tour video-that has helped too). I am now the person who doesn't have laundry piling up and doesn't hate putting clothes away. Thank you for your videos and enlightening me to the world of Family Closet! haha seriously though.

We do the same exact thing with not folding the kids clothes!! It makes it so even 2 year olds can put away their own clothes so therefore, easier to keep up with laundry and not let it pile up like most people do. They start picking their own clothes before they can talk so I’ve learned to just stop folding.

I didn’t know other people did this. I have a two year old and am pregnant with baby number two. I used to spend so much time folding little clothes and decided it’s not worth it. I keep clothes that are too big folded in the dressers in their rooms. I have 4 laundry baskets in my closet, 2 for dirty clothes and 2 for clean clothes. I need to either get more baskets or a small dresser because I’m always running out of baskets to put dirty clothes in.

Hi I love your videos - I just stumbled across your channel today. I am wondering if you can do a KZbin video or if you have some tips you can share/suggest on how to have a minimalist capsule wardrobe when you need both dress clothes/professional clothes and also casual clothes for just the non-work days. I am really struggling with this. Thank you 😊

How do you store the kids off season clothes? Do you keep clothes to pass down to the next child? I’m still sorting out in my mind how much baby clothes and stuff I should keep for “the next baby”.
@ariannapflederer
@ariannapflederer 5 жыл бұрын
Since they’re growing so fast at their age, I don’t have to keep off season clothes for them specifically because they’ll outgrow them! But, I basically create a mini capsule out of their clothes for my youngest and then store them in a tub in the garage until she fits them :) then donate the rest!

I wish my closet looked like that. I can apply minimalism to any part of my life but since I’m such a big clothing person my closet is too full for my liking. As much as I donate, I still can’t seem to get it smaller because each piece genuinely makes me happy. Do you have any tips?
@ariannapflederer
@ariannapflederer 5 жыл бұрын
Why is your closet to full for your liking? Does it stress you out when you try to get dressed due to so many choices? Or is someone else making you feel like you have to much? Or is laundry maybe what’s stressing you out? If laundry doesn’t bother you any, you have no issues getting dressed in a timely manner, and you truly enjoy all your clothes (on you) then keep them! Minimalism is not about getting down to a certain number. It can help relieve stress to have less, but for some...fashion is more than just getting dressed. And that is okay! Pick and choose what is important to you. It is okay to have more in some areas if it’s something you are genuinely passionate about. I just try to keep my passions from turning into obsessions, that’s when you really end up with too much! If there is too much despite loving each piece on you, then maybe have a fashion show with a few friends and have them help you dwindle down to the things that compliment you the absolute best!

Arianna. Thank you for responding! I do see your point. The only reason it’s too full for my liking though is because I hate seeing clutter even if it’s neatly folded away. I just don’t like seeing too many things

The girls have play tennis shoes, nice tennis shoes, flip flops, and boots. I have tennis shoes, Toms, flip flops, short black heel, winter boots, cowboy boots, and a heeled wedge. Ryan has brown and black dress shoes, running shoes, flip flops, and nice tennis shoes. We keep our less used shoes (boots and dress shoes) in the front closet!
