This was not the 1st time Richard Dawson entered at CBS Television City, the 1st time he entered the same studio was when he was a panelist on "Match Game," that eventually led him to host the 1st "Family Feud," and did so, for 9 years on ABC + 1 more year, right here (1994-95), after the unexpected termination of Ray Combs. May he #RIP. (1932 - 2012).

This was okay, but it doesn't beat the original Family Feud (1976-1985). They should have never gotten rid of a player and have kept the original 5 per family and scrap the Bankroll segment. In other words keep it as it was. I particularly loved the 1984-1985 year of Family Feud where each family played to $400 and the $100 lollipops. That's what they should of brought back.

You've got to be kidding. One of the things I loved about the original family feud with Dawson was that he wasn't afraid to make a joke about someone if they gave a stupid answer, which did happen on numerous occasions. Just watch some clips of game show stupid answers and Dawson family feud contestants will frequently pop up. He doesn't hold back on them. Once he left the show all future hosts up until Steve Harvey (Ray Combs was ok on occasion) were very PC and boring, afraid to rock the boat. Harvey has brought the show back to relevance with higher ratings, because of his personality and mannerisms. You don't have to like it, but facts are facts.

He did some show on The Family Channel (ABC Family now) called Family Challenge, and for some reason he committed suicide.

The CBS version of Feud ended in March of 1993, and reruns continued until September 1993. The syndicated with Ray Combs as host continued for one more season with new episodes until 1994, probably mid 1994, and Dawson taping started in August 1994. He hosted the show for a year. Ray was only fired because ratings went down. Dawson's version started off strong but due to a lot of interruption from the OJ Simpson Trial, ratings declined. Ray went on to host Family Challenge on the Family Channel now ABC Family after being involved in a bad car accident which paralyzed him. He later killed himself on June 2, 1996. Interesting enough Richard Dawson died the same day but 16 years later from cancer at 79.

Dawson said in a recent interview before this airing that he wasn't going to kiss the female contestants on the lips because his 3-year old daughter told him he could only kiss her and mommy on the lips...although I think the real truth was the network probably told him - Hey Richard it's not the 70s anymore, you can't stick your tongue down the females contestants throats anymore and get away with it...lol
