I like how Miranda eventually realized how much Daniel grew
@Darkman9478
@Darkman9478 7 ай бұрын
Exactly. She mentioned that “Mrs. Doubtfire” brought out the best in the kids and in Daniel, and he said she did for Miranda, too. That’s pretty much how they come to terms with each other despite the divorce between them and them both having joint custody.
@ADEAL918
@ADEAL918 7 ай бұрын
@@Darkman9478truth is, while many divorces should NOT lead to this conclusion, this particular storyline SHOULD have ended with Daniel and Miranda getting back together. That divorce never should have happened in the first place-Daniel had literally offered (more like begged) to go to family therapy-that’s a rare thing for a man to suggest that! And once they saw each other through different lights THROUGH the Mrs. Doubtfire episode, getting back together was the logical conclusion and was apparently the original intended ending, but the actors and producers-several of whom were divorced themselves-were afraid of sending the message to children of divorce watching the movie that this is or should be the natural progression in most real life cases. Which is an admirable reason in practical terms, but in this case it actually sacrifices the integrity of the story for didactic purposes.
@Jopo1226

@@ADEAL918They wanted to possibly have them get back together, but the actors felt that was unrealistic. I get that to a degree as love does fade over time and you can fall out of love without reason, but also i read that one reason people get back together is that the problem that started the break up is no longer there. Which Daniel became responsible and got a job he was able to do with ethics and be a provider. It was left ambiguous, but despite theories I think she does take him back. Her new boyfriend just didn't want to be alone. Stu was basically using her as she had a premade family and didn't have to start fresh. His friend even stated he didn't like kids, but he said I'm pushing 40 and I don't want to be alone. It's actually a catch 22. The story sends out that divorced people should stay divorced and sometimes divorce is better and couples rekindle and actually make it worse on the kids such as an abusive parent and a parent who shouldn't be a parent.

Well some parents aren't really great, kind and loving to their children the way they're supposed to. Some parents treat their children like they're the reason things go bad and they take it out on them. Meaning some people don't do well with children. So the parents start saying and doing things to the children that makes them mad and angry at them and they argue and fight about it and they decide they don't want to talk to them anymore and they don't want anything to do with them and they decide they want to write them out of their lives. that pretty much explains why they say they hate their parents because of the way things turned out for them.

Yea but it's all from Daniel's self sabotage. He constantly made miranda out to be the bad mean parent that was always angry. She told her son he wasn't to have a big party just at home w/ the family b/c of his bad report card. Daniel also up & quit his job w/o thinking of his family or discussing it w/ his wife. He encourages his kids to lie to their mom that she won't be home for hours. She comes home happy w/ a cake then sees police b/c that is a disturbance to the neighbors. music blasting farm animals roaming around on the front lawn eating her flowers. Music blasting kids everywhere house a wreck she sees her grown middle aged husband dancing to a hip hop song w/ his hat sideways. Not a care in the world. The woman was working all day. Then he talks to her in one of his characters saying why is she home early!! She literally had to pull the plug on the music. It's exactly as she " confided " he made her a person & mom she dislike. Had to be hard when u want the other parent to teach ur kids about boundaries & rules. Must be like having 4 kids. She makes a rule he breaks it. Instead of backing her up Then she asks " her" to please come to her bday party I'd have cancelled saying any excuse. I know she insiste "she " come btw. Daniel again put himself in that situation he was pretending to be an elderly English housekeeper/Sitter. He also already has plans w/ the owner of his company to get an incredible opportunity to be on tv talking to kids given how funny he is. So he decides to play 2 parts get wasted w/ his boss who he was very rude to. Keeping him waiting when he's got this incredible job position. He had to know it was in the bag v/c his boss loved his improvement was ready to pull the plug on the Dino guys show. Daniel ironically embraced a better lifestyle by embracing the lie. He could have had the kids regularly. Then he hears her new man say he's allergic to pepper & dumps it all over his food. He could have killed him if stu had an allergy attack & his throat closed. That's what caused him to choke on his shrimp. He realizes he's responsible miranda has to scream for mrs DF b/c she Said she had cpr training. So he runs to the table his mask starts falling off. Which was so horrible esp to his little child to say daddy? Plus he did have the kids lie & deceive her. So on her bday she is horrified in shock stu I guess went home as she had to wrap her head around such an invasion of privacy. As she said he encouraged her to talk about their marriage to him when she thought it wasn't. He couldn't give her a moment. The kids were upstairs miserable all afraid b/c they feared they would never see him again plus its embarrassing & she's the one getting yelled at by him & still holding onto them reconciling as living together family. The woman doesn't want to be married anymore & he obviously in those heart to hearts about why it was over didn't get it. In his mind mrs doubtfire is him but this was q whole character he played. So the kids are crying & she gets told by her kids that they hate her & him. She did nothing wrong ! Plus look how sad they were. Another bday blow out b/c of their dad not her. Its sad.

@@nattyps3160 yeah. i made a post years ago on another video about the argument. they were both at fault really, though it mainly fell on daniel. miranda was kind of strict and a workaholic, while daniel was the laid back pal to his kids. basically a typical “when mom always says no, dad always says yes” marriage and relationship with the kids. as a kid, we always sided with daniel as he was the “fun dad” who never said no. but now as an adult, you emphasize with miranda, especially after she explains to “her” (mrs doubtfire) how she was working all the time, trying to keep the house in tact and keep a relationship with the kids, who she never got to see. daniel, on the other hand, was never serious and thought life was fun and games, allowed the kids to do whatever they wanted, hardly helped with chores and never kept a steady job to provide for the family. miranda then explained that she cried herself to sleep every night and how all this was turning her into a horrible person, and she didn’t want the kids seeing her like that.

I must say that Daniel actually made some valid points in this scene. You see, Miranda needed a housekeeper and Daniel decided to fulfill the role, of course as Mrs. Doubtfire. But anyway, he did mention that it was a job that needed to be done and he’s right, it was and he surprisingly did it well. Now I can understand Miranda’s resentment and how deceived she felt but Daniel did explain that he wanted to see his kids every day and being Mrs. Doubtfire was the only way to do it and his kids always looked up to him despite some of his troubles. Now, I must say that his marriage with Miranda was on its deathbed and judging by everything, it didn’t look like it could be saved. But I do resent Miranda for trying to separate the kids from Daniel and they would’ve hated that and they could’ve resented Miranda for that. But anyway, I hope this provides an understanding insight over what was seen.

Robin Williams was terrific in this role and not many other actors could have pulled it off. You could see the sheer desperation of his character throughout the film. Despite clearly hating every minute of being Mrs Doubtfire, he did it so he could see his children every day. He sacrificed his identity just to get that chance, preferring to put himself through something he hated doing just to be around them.

the problem was daniel was also under court order to where he could only see the kids only on saturdays for those 3 months in the court order. so even if miranda allowed him to take the kids after, the judge probably wouldn’t allow it until daniel met the requirements to make sure his apartment was habitable and safe for the kids and he found a job and stuck with it until the next court date

They shouldn't be trying to make the kids love one parent over the other.

Exactly. That’s where despite their differences, Miranda and Daniel both equally messed up that way by only doing what they wanted for themselves; not what was best for the kids. You’re right, in a divorce, no parent should be trying to boost their ego and popularity amongst their children it is not fair on anyone, especially the kids, they have the free will and minds to make their own decisions.

@knowledgegathererdraftsave1979 Maybe I'm wrong and I understand if you disagree but, while Daniel made his fair share of mistakes, I don't believe trying to make the kids love him more was one of them. They both say "they love me" during the argument but I think Daniel was just trying to say that he should be in the kids lives. it sounded like Miranda turned it into a competition over who they loved more.

@@matthewwhite8244 I don’t disagree with you. You make a valid point; no it’s not a bad thing that Daniel wants to be in his children’s lives and for them to love him. Miranda might have made it sound like a competition, but I just had a different view as to what and why Miranda and Daniel did what they did. I believe that Miranda and Daniel’s issue was that they couldn’t and wouldn’t present a united front in their divorce. And because they didn’t do that until the end, it’s my belief that everything they did although they said it was for the children, it really seemed to me that it’s what they wanted so that they could be happy and have what was best for themselves. They both did wrong even if they had their reasons for justifying their means. Thankfully, Miranda saw the light and understood that Daniel meant well and cared about the children that she finally accepted allowing him his right to see them and be their father in the end. A united front for Lydia, Chris and Natalie, that way they were truly doing right by them.

@@knowledgegathererdraftsave1979 All excellent points. Since I brought up Daniel's mistakes, another takeaway from this argument is that I think Daniel was somewhat in denial about the divorce. Some of things he said made it sound like they should get back together like saying they were a family. The fact that he didn't come inside at the end of the movie tells me he saw the light too and accepted the divorce.

Well-acted, but dark and cruel. Since Shore had already scored it, typically one of the last things done, it must have been chopped after test audiences rejected it.

No matter how you justify it, they both messed up and never once considered the feelings of their children, therefore neither one of them were right or wrong in this situation. If they had actually done more than just the bare minimum that divorced parents normally do then the situation could’ve been avoided, but instead they both went overboard and ruined their family, ruined whatever relationship they had left, and worst of all made their children hate them.

Geez he had nerve coming over after what he did. Miranda really didnt ask for much. Why do the kids hate their mom everything she said was true. He doesnt have any boundaries. Ironically by doing all the things miranda wanted him to do b/c he wanted to be hired impress her keep the job. It extended into his life cooking cleaning his apt. Maybe she never would have divorced him. He seems to want to still be back together. After he just tried to hurt her bf. He knew he was allergic to pepper & he dumps it all over the food.

Hey everyone, I want to talk about this scene that didn't make it into the final cut of the movie that director Chris Columbus had to remove. I think the main reason why Daniel told Miranda why he disguised himself as Mrs. Doubtfire because he wanted more time with his kids. He went on to say that he wasn't going to give any more information to her about the whole thing because it was none of her business. But Miranda needs an answer so she can get more information about the whole thing. But Daniel told her "no" because it was a private thing for himself, Not for her. So he had no comment to tell her about why he disguised himself as Mrs. Doubtfire. But Miranda needs an answer. Again, Daniel told her "no" that he wasn't going to tell her why he did this because it was none of her business. We have a scene during the restaurant fiasco after he saved Stu's life when he was choking from the pepper, He wanted to tell her about it when he was touching her arm or hand so she can listen to him about the whole thing, But she refuses to listen to it and was ordering him not to touch her as she storms out with her anger with the kids. But I am glad that he had to apologize to Stu for putting the pepper onto his shrimp which he was allergic to. Stu accepts his apology and left. He orders the people to stop staring as he says that the show was over. I might be worried that they were going to say "no" at him. Daniel gives them the pointed look with his anger at them and orders them to stop staring. But they refused to stop. So what really happen in that scene anyway? Did he tell her the reason he did this when he was in disguise?

This part wouldn't make sense in conjunction with the final version of the movie... Like, where at in the movie would it even take place? Right after the restaurant scene, but somehow before he got the job playing Mrs Doubtfire on TV? Either way, it was better left out of the movie...
