I am Croatian ... we have a word "molim" ..that could be translated literaly as "please' ...but it is used in sentances such as "please can i pass" / "can you please pass the salt" / or when you answer the phone you say it for example / or it can be translated as "you are welcome" in some situations / or it is said after somebody says "thank you" / or when you dont hear well what somebody says ..you say just that... like "please" instead of "please, can you repeat that" ...so basically as i understand "prego" is similar to that... P.s: ..shame on me, Italy is a neighbouring country, on coastal areas many people speak Italian and use Italian words mixed in when speaking Croatian, i dated for years a girl who was studying Italian...and i still know almost nothing of the language :P
