My parents have been together for 44 years and as I grow older I realise how much seeing them together is a privilege. I have become cognisant to this that I dont speak on single parent homes. Furthermore those who have been victims of divorce or broken homes as I believe I would probably been worse than most who have made most of the situation.

I remember living in Wandsworth in a studio flat and paying £1300 to have my bed and cooker in the same room, and then after bills like gas, electricity and council tax, that £1700 gone. I then had to pay child support to my ex which was £300 per month, then transport costs on the tube. I was then left with about £200 left. As I was on about £2500 after tax a month. I ended up having to take a second job in a pub in the evening 5 days as week just to have any money left over.

The UK average salary is around 37K, and even then most jobs eg, retail and admin do not earn that amount and they manage to run the family household. In my opinion, it is relative to how you value and spend money. Most of the UK population will never earn 70k and most families in London will require a joint income but not just live but to have a good quality of life.

In London, the days of men paying all the bills for his wife & 2+ kids are over. It's just not ideal. Even if he can afford it, he'll be struggling to save/invest & take the family on holidays.The wife has to chip in
@Longlostpuss18 күн бұрын
It shouldn't be over though. The system is designed to break up families by forcing the husband and wife to both have to work and miss out on time raising their kids. A marriage is 10 times more likely to fragment when the wife feels she HAS to work, let alone a relationship. The whole socio-economic situation is a mess for the so called middle class. People who are wealthy don't have these problems, their wives either with them in their business, or they have a small part time job or business of their own that chips in (mainly centred around their hobbies), but nothing that is going to put them under pressure. This is why most marriages break up. think about your wife spending at least 40 hours a week in the presence of other people and possibly other temptations and only seeing you for a couple of hours in an evening if you're lucky - how are those odds stacked in your favour? And people wonder why affairs happen.

As usual great content , I love to watch and learn about topics like this , just to clarify that I’m not mad for thinking it’s a man’s role to provide for his household! A woman’s role is to supplement that by being the care giver to her husband and kids . if she chooses to work it still helps to balance the household income , but the saving you make with her being at home is a benefit to how the children are brought up. Just my opinion 🎤 🤷🏽♀️

Yeah I concluded this some time ago. As the man of the house, you need to be earning twice the amount of what is considered an average single person's salary so that your partner has the _option_ not to need to go back to work after she has kids. So assuming the average or median is £35,000 per year in the UK, which is enough for a single person to live on, the man needs to then earn £70,000 in case she doesn't want to work anymore or loses her job. £70,000 is a healthy salary, you can comfortably pay back a mortgage and bills, food etc and have a couple of holidays every year, only if you didn't overspend on a bigger house than you actually needed. Problem is, most people will not see a salary that high in their lifetime, unless they have a seriously good profession. Those professions will also have immense competition.
@k13-y6l18 күн бұрын
Because of the way tax is in this country, double the salary is not proportional to double the take home. Monthly for one person is £4,263.11 take home after tax and NI (excluding student loan). Two people on £35k take home a combined £4,786.62. Over the course of a year that’s over £6,000 take home difference!
@Longlostpuss18 күн бұрын
@@k13-y6l Yeah the irony is you'll take home more money net, but you're also likely to have an unhappy partner or wife and the relationship/marriage is more likely to fail. You can't have two people getting stressed out by 9-5's and expect that relationship to last. They know exactly what they're doing with the tax system, it's BS.

Single mum here of 2 here, 24 & 15. It’s been hard! I was 17 and made so many financial errors. My most comfortable was contracting & income of 75/80. But it meant sacrificing time with kids. I’m permanent now but my eldest 24 is on 30k so our combined is now that . Her work pay for her uni so when she finishes she will go corporate and contract and surpass my income in a couple years. We did the RTB which comes with its own issues but we on the ladder. I think with all my expenses, comfortable for me would be 4K take home after tax. It’s all relative to the individual. I took on more when I earned more. But I know people UC top up and managing. They just don’t have the car n mortgage & credit cards I have, you learn to make it work. I’d deffo do things differently, stacking & investing instead of flossing. Have a 2nd skill or creative idea/ brand. Great discussion guys

I don't think you necessary need to study finance to be good at finance or study personal training to be a personal trainer (Study as in have a qualification). It all depends on the person. Studying can involve your personal experience and studying what other successful people do. Obviously to get to a certain level qualifications are definitely needed but to say that someone can't do personal training or give financial advise without a degree or qualification is clearly not true for everyone.

@@kc270352I second this option. I get wanting to enjoy life. However, when people say X amount isn’t enough, that’s because they want abundance. They want 4 holidays instead of 2. They want to drive a 2024 GLC Coupe instead of a 2019 Hyundai. They wanna shop in M&S and Waitrose instead of Tesco and Sainsbury’s. Our parents were making a fraction of what we’re making today and yet they raised 2/3/4 kids and more than provided.
