@flingonber11 ай бұрын
I actually think her lighter sentence was probably fair; if you think about the views of her husband and how they were passed on to the son, she had obviously been under the same kind of domination and control that Summer was trying to escape from, but in her case for like fifty years. That doesn't mean she wasn't responsible for what she did, but fifty years of abuse will really damage a person. I'm completely willing to believe that her husband and son thought up this plan and she felt like she didn't have a choice about going along with it, because she probably felt like she didn't have a choice about pretty much anything in her life. Victims of abuse go along with what's happening, it's a survival strategy.
@sternshadowdude211 ай бұрын
@@flingonber Sandra was just as controlling of Summer and was a primary driver in the kidnapping. Suffering in your life doesn't grant you immunity from punishment. You probably want to let child abusers go free because many were abused themselves.
@flingonber11 ай бұрын
@@sternshadowdude2 No, actually, I don't. And, I'm guessing unlike you, I have actually worked with survivors of CSA (both adults and children) as a mental health clinician. So the first thing that's wrong with what you're saying is that the whole premise is not really true - victims of abuse IN GENERAL are more likely to commit crimes as adults, but the only sex crime that victims of CSA are significantly more likely to be arrested for is prostitution. Victims of physical abuse, on the other hand, are significantly more likely to be arrested for violent crimes in general, and violent sex crimes in particular. So if your dad beat you, guess what? You're more likely to commit CSA than someone who was a victim of CSA themselves. That aside, what I DO think is that only people who aren't very bright want to see the world in black-and-white terms. Pedos didn't choose to be what they are, and you can have compassion for them and the situation that they're in, ESPECIALLY if they were also victims, and still recognize that they are dangerous and that children need to be protected from them. Just like you can recognize that the woman in this case was broken down from years of abuse and domination and also deserves some compassion. Recognizing the causes and conditions that lead to a particular outcome doesn't preclude seeing that outcome as unacceptable. I'm sure that's way too nuanced for you, though, because it sounds like you're still stuck in the five-year-olds idea of "good guys" and "bad guys".

Her husband himself made it clear: "If you leave me, I will murder you". There was probably nothing she could have done to escape this situation. Some people it’s right after the wedding, some it’s after a pregnancy, others it’s after you quit your job and move, because you’re locked in- trapped. Then the control, neglect, emotional abuse or even physical may start. You try to get the magic back & please them, make yourself worthy of being treated like they used to. You’re used to being the one that’s at fault. You’re used to believing that if only you were BETTER they would love you again. You may spend yeeeears like that, till you find a lifeline out. That’s how this goes, too often. Kids in homes where they aren’t loved, every step is criticized, do this all the time; they are forever at risk… unless THEY become the abuser. They are taught, from birth, they can be victims or in control. Depends on their wiring which way they go. Those are just my observations, anyway. I had the opportunity to watch it play out a few generations, now. It sucks, but you can’t fix it. I wasn’t able to, anyway. You can have a small effect, on the children, help program them to seek out healthy attention by giving them that while with them. You can’t counter their environment. They play out their childhoods, like I did. I couldn’t really escape either. She almost got away, I hate that she didn’t. At least her children aren’t exposed to those particular monsters, anymore. Hopefully the new environment is less awful. Maybe, they have a chance, but probably not. Personalities are formed in the first 3 years, for the most part. Those who have a passing understanding of felony murder statutes understand that all three were guilty of murder regardless of intent. This leads to some interesting outcomes. For example, if Summer had strangled Will Jr in the back seat, her act would have been in self defense. Yet both parents could have been convicted for first degree murder. The reason this is so is because the death of Will would have happened during the commission of a felony, that is, kidnapping.

Religious people seem to be disproportionately represented in the criminal population. At least judging by Grande's case list. Don't become involved with the strongly religious. However it plays out, it won't be a happy life.

I think Will is as Bill was. Like father like son. A contractor doing what contractors do best (head scratch). The victim led a threatened life but found relief in a readily available lover. The manner of abduction was laughable. Just to think they could get away with it is a measure of their intelligence and self importance.

I lived in Nelsonville in 2011, 20 min from Logan and went to Hocking College where they offer that culinary program, its a very popular degree. I visited friends in Logan often. I never heard of this case, so scary! Worst year of my life. Met my abusive ex husband then and there.

What I was thinking … what if they had had Factor … instead of this poor woman being a sex slave , and being required to cook perfect meals … they could have had Factor … then it would have just been the sex issue …. Who knows what might have happened … feel sorry for Summer

Jeezez, whats wrong with people🙄 Killing someone for wanting a divorce is just plain mental. Planning a kidnapping?! Thats even worse - you are destined to get caught. Poor children, now they have no one💔

Dr. Grande, you forgot to tell us what happened to the kids? I wonder where they were when their mother was being chased down and so heartlessly killed. Where did they go after everything played out? Thank-you for all of your hard work.

Summer’s parents took the children in. A counselor was assigned to work with the children and grandparents. This happened in my county and was covered extensively by local media.

Sounds like that church was some kind of fundamentalist Mormon church. It seems the Patriarchal point of view and polygamist attributes are shared by both churches.

I wonder why they didn’t use the Bible as justification for their LYING? Their God hates 7 things, among them LYING. I’m pretty sure murder killing is frowned upon, too, since Jahwe decided it was important enough to be included on those stone tablets Moses brought down from the mountain.

As a pastor’s kid of a pastor’s kid, I’ve been around A LOT of churches. A church name like “faith tabernacle” would be a red flag lol

Its not cheating when she clearly wanted to be divorced and they prevented her from leaving. She was already a hostage of him and his parents. WTF these people are crazy and held her prisoner.. this happens to SO SO SO many women. Im tired. This is why I stay single.

I’m always watching your videos. Randomly clicked on this one not connecting the dots that I was a psychiatric nurse who cared for Sandy when competency was being determined. Wild.

Dr. Grande, checking YT for your latest video is one of the high points of my day. One case I'd be interested in seeing your take on is Gia Carangi; I think both her true story and her portrayal by Angelina Jolie could benefit from your insight

Someone cheated? Get a divorce. The moral response. You would think that Bible loving people would be familiar with the “1st Commandment.” Thou shalt not kill.

That poor girl... especially when she had three children that needed her. Such extreme hipocrites her in-laws were! It's unfathomable that they used the Church and Bible as a refuge for their evil deeds. I would hate to think where they're going.

Family marriages never lead to healthy relationships. The Bible says that a man shall leave his mother and father and cleave to his wife. Guess they missed that part. The family is healthy when everyone remembers their place in their relationships.

Thanks for the upload, Dr. Grande! Your true fans love your humor and sarcasm. January 23 is National Pie Day (gotta have a Swiss Chalet chicken pot pie later!), National Compliment Day, National Rhubarb Pie Day, National Handwriting Day, National Peanut Butter Day (gotta have a Western Family smooth peanut butter sandwich later!), Measure Your Feet Day, and Snowplow Mailbox Hockey Day.

How come so many people who felt they were "chosen by God to do great things" turn out to be the worst humans in the end. Entitlement and self-righteousness are huge red flags.

Wow! I believe the word of God to be true. But you cant take that truth and twist it to mean something else. I am so sorry for the poor gal. My concern is that they didnt seem to really talk about serious things before marriage. I broke off with a narcissistic controlling guy because I didn't like what the future looked like with him. Make goid choices people.
