**UPDATES: 1) The latest version allows you to Import GEDCOM files directly to the workbook without the use of GRAMPS conversions. 2) About 5,000 - 7,000 people is the current maximum to Import - The file can support up to 32,000 but it begins to really slow around the 7,000 mark. 3) A RESEARCH workbook that will link to the tree, allowing you to organize, index, and summarize source records should be available by the end of March 2022

Does this work for 2016 Excel or has anyone tried?

@@whyaskwhybuddry Thanks for the heads up - seems to be working when I just tried so maybe a temporary glitch

@@whyaskwhybuddry It was compiled in Excel 2013 and I tested it with no issues for Excel 2016. It should work for any year 2013 or later that allows VBA and Macros . Windows versions only right now. Hope to make the MAC adjustments in the near future.

@@familytreexcel Have you tried the 3D Map feature in Excel 2016? I've used it as a "Data Drone" to hover and move about points on the Map. Do I still need 3rd party software to go from Gedcom into Family TreeXcel?

This product looks like a great alternative to the boring charts that are available now. Looking forward to future videos and the product launch !

This video popped up in my KZbin feed this morning and I decided within 30 seconds to purchase. Great program When I was adding profile pictures some of the entries looked stretched. What is the proper aspect ratio use so that the pictures look normal?
@familytreexcel2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out Mark! The ideal image ratio is roughly 71:100 (w : h). If you use a standard ratio the closest would be a 3:4 landscape set up to avoid any major distortion. Copies of your original image files are made when you add a profile picture. If you edit a person - you can use the "OPEN" button on the user form to open the image file in your default image editor program (i.e. Paint) and crop the photo accordingly. Since its a duplicate file you don't have to worry about damaging the original in anyway. In my next update I will have a Crop excel workbook that will automatically link up and have the ideal aspect ratio to crop the image making it easier. You can check out the "#7 - Family TreeXcel - IMAGES" video for little more help.

Great video! It says here that it only goes back to 5 generations of ancestors. My tree goes far more that 5 generations, what then?
@familytreexcel2 жыл бұрын
Thank You! You can add an endless amount of generations (Note that the current file begins to slow around the 6,000 total people mark). The latest version allows you directly import an existing GEDCOM into the Excel file as well. 5 generations was just the most that can be displayed on the 1 page chart. This includes both the Paternal & Maternal ancestors. If you just want to focus on just 1 Great-Grandparent line - you can fit up to 7 generations back onto a 1 page chart. You Can check out the "#6 - Family TreeXcel CHARTS" video for more details on those.

Thanks for checking the video out! The latest version will allow you directly import an existing GEDCOM into the Excel file as well. Importing a GEDCOM to a fully formatted and organized excel table will also be a stand alone file. So if you just wanted that feature and not all the other bells and whistles - that option will be available in the very near future as well.

@@familytreexcel thanks. I am looking for something where I can export/import my gedcom or my family tree maker files into excel I mainly uxcel and google sheets to track my family tree research visually by like surnames, birth, death, marriage status, military, life state they died and so on...
@familytreexcel2 жыл бұрын
@@irishdawn8387 Sorry - I just saw this post! The GEDCOM import I currently have will bring in ID's, Names, Birthdates, Birthplaces, Marriage Dates, Death dates, death places, and family connections (i.e. Father, Mother, Spouses, Children). All this data will automatically be populated into an excel table - you would have to manually add additional columns for any other information. I hope to have a video demonstrating this very soon - then you can determine if that's something that would work for you.

hi, is this macro suitable for international use also (different countries, cities etc)?
@familytreexcel2 жыл бұрын
You can add individuals from any country to the tree - but I am not sure how the file would function using an Excel version with different regional and language settings than English (US). The workbooks were compiled in Excel 2013 using English(US) language and all the labels are in English. There may be issues with the Macros , Formulas, or Conditional Formatting using Excel with a different editing language set up. Nothing was put in the code to adjust to regional settings and things like "," vs ";" may cause problems. You can email me (familytreexcel@gmail.com) with specifics on what Country/Language and can test it out to know for sure.

Looks like a "Must Have" Tool for everyone tracing their Family. I've been looking around for ways to get my Family Trees into Excel for a while now so that I can do Analytics that the "Big Box" Genealogy sites cannot. Among these Analytics, I want to do Average Lifespan of my Direct Ancestors, Average number of children in each generation, how many Boys vs Girls, being able to "Walk in their Footsteps" based upon Census and Vital Records and see where all my cousins are today. Not everyone is on board with taking Genetic Testing, so it's impossible to know if your Co-Worker on the other side of the Cubicle Divider is also your 4th Cousin 3x Removed. In Excel 2016 you can create Chronological Maps of data using the 3D Map Feature. With this feature you can do a "Map Fly Over" of all the places your family lived and trace their Migration. All Ancestry DNA can do is to show you where your Direct Ancestors came from and where your closest relatives are to you who have submitted their DNA. They cannot give you locations of your distant cousins unless they've taken a DNA test.
@familytreexcel2 жыл бұрын
Excel really is a great analysis tool! The use of sort, filters, pivot tables, and charts really allow you to break the info down. The TREE workbook has the Ancestor summary chart which shows the average lifespans of 5 generations of direct ancestors.
