Just a small tip. When using Ferrocerium rod and a knife. Hold the knife still and pull the rod back. This way your knife does not hit your tender and you can get a lot closer to it for larger and more sparks.

That looked like fun. I envy you guys. The wife and I are retired we have a few dollars in the bank and minimum Bill's and overhead. But I just cannot get her to even do a test run on the lifestyle. I even have my design all drawn up for the rig. Just can't get her on board. She said why would I leave a warm house to go live and cook in the woods. I said cause it's a dream of mines. She said well keep dreaming and that way it will last forever. 😂😂. As Ralph Kramden ( Honeymooners ) would say BANG ZOOM!! You guys stay on the trail and just keep following you. Tell Lando what's up.

My family has a road trip coming up in December for our annual Christmas trip, this time to Mexico, over the border from Phoenix where we live. I'll be ordering 6 adults and 2 kids shirts. I was going to have shirts made but why invent the wheel, the text on your shirts are perfect. Thank you.

Where do you store blankets, sleeping bags, buddy heater, propane, etc. when you have five people in a Jeep? (There’s not much room in the storage area of a Jeep. And you’ve got your roof top rack mostly filled up by a tent, wood.)
@EFRT6 жыл бұрын
MsEmmaHale - Great question. For long excursions we have a CVT off road trailer for hauling a lot of our gear. For this trip we utilize the back cargo space and the roof rack. The tent takes up the back half of the rack but there is plenty of space up front. We have a big waterproof “roof bag” up beside where the firewood was. Hope that helps. 🚙👍🏻

Everything is an adventure or an opportunity to learn. I have learned a lot thinking that way. Daniel...bless you. Hahaha! I see Daniel is into knives. That's a nice bush crafting knife. I have carried a knife since my early teens, even to school...before it was a big deal. I just have a simple Morakniv Companion in military green. It will do most things I'd want to do with it but a good bush crafting knife would be nice. Daniel, try holding the knife still and pulling the firesteel back. It will help you direct the sparks. Also, you need something that's more flammable. If everything was wet, maybe toilet paper would have worked. You could shred it a bit to make it light quicker or broken up the tinder you were using to make it smaller and easier to burn with the sparks.. You probably already know but look up featherstick. Also, you need more knives on your belt. 🤣 I carry at least 3 every day. Ha! Usually for something to burn, it has to reach the temperature it would burn at. So you can either increase the heat you're trying to start the fire with (the sparks from the firesteel), decrease the temperature required for it to burn by using smaller/thinner sticks or dried brush, or using some kind of accelerant which will burn at a lower temperature and then create a higher temperature when it burns (alcohol or some other flammable substance). Watching this video answered one of my questions. How does the ARB awning work as a tent. Hahaha! Thanks for the video. 👍 🔥 🏕️

Have watched maybe 8 episodes so far... good stuff... one thing, though, who are you people??!? You almost never use your names. Of the five of you, I've only figured out that one of the boys is named Daniel, but I don't know which boy that is! What are your names? How old are the kids? Does the girl ever speak? I'm enjoying coming along for the ride--thanks!

Epic Family Road Trip I’ve since figured it out, I think, but it took a while. At first I wondered if you all intentionally never used your names-maybe for some kind of security for the kids. But it seems that each parent named a kid after themselves, correct? And then there’s Daniel... who’s named after...?? :-)
