How is the Seeker Pinch Weld Primer holding up after 2 years? Any more Rust coming out?

Amazing job! I have a 1995 that will need this done. Do you happen to have the part number for the new weather/rubber sealer the window sits in?
@FamilyAdventuresOverlanding Жыл бұрын
I do not have a list of the part numbers. I remember that I was able to go to my local Toyota dealer and they were able to order it without issue. Thanks for watching!

Actually I take that back, the Part 3 on KZbin looks to be a repeat of Part 2...

It should’ve come up automatically at the end of the video. I’ve added a pop up card at the beginning of the outro that will pop up in the upper right corner as well. Here’s the link, just in case it still doesn’t come up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHuwd32VYq2Fhtk. Thanks for watching!

@@FamilyAdventuresOverlanding Thanks again for the videos, I finally found and watched all three a few times. After checking into the cost of the primer and urethane (both 3M and Sika products) I checked with a couple of locally owned and operated auto glass shops here in town to get a quote to reinstall the rear hatch window after I'd made all of the rust repairs. The big national auto glass shop declined to provide a quote, they only sell and install their own glass. The cost from the two local shops was $100 and $90 respectively and said they'd do the primer and urethane glue. I actually liked the lower cost shop better and decided that for the effort involved in doing it myself the relatively small cost difference was worth having the 'pros' do it. Point of note - I had minimal rust and ground out with a wire wheel then treated the rust spots with two coats of Rustoleum Rust Reformer as a pre-treatment before the primer that will allegedly prevent future rusting at the same place; perhaps this step was unnecessary. At my request the glass shop did apply the Sika primer to both the inside and outside edges of the window frame. However, they failed to apply primer to the window edge and completed the installation with no polyurethane at all. I complained about the lack of urethane and they argued it to be unnecessary and that using it would mean the gasket could never be reused. I showed them the factory original gasket and the adhesive in it making it unusable. Eventually they rolled over and agreed with me, and proceeded to remove the window and the gasket from the window, cleaned everything up and started over. Unlike your approach, they injected urethane into the gasket window groove and reinstalled the gasket onto the window. This looked relatively easy; of course they had the nice battery powered caulking gun. Since the edge of the window was a sanded coarse finish I expect the urethane to adhere well enough to it there. They then proceeded to reinstall the window into the frame, but first spraying some relatively oily windshield installation lubricant around the window frame. I questioned them on this and asked if it wouldn't interfere with the urethane adhering to the frame... So they cleaned the lube all off and returned to installing the window which went smoothly. They then injected the urethane under the gasket with great difficulty as illustrated in your video. Without your excellent video as a guide I would have never known the correct way to do this or to question the shop and insist it be done correctly. I also imagine had they known how picky I was going to be about the installation process that they might have charged me more; however, they honored their $90 quotation. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the end result. I hope someone embarking on this same project finds my experiences with the auto glass shop helpful. Many thanks again!

What are the major areas to look for?
@FamilyAdventuresOverlanding4 жыл бұрын
Thomas Davidson along the bottom edge and corners of the glass seal. The other place would be the bottom of the door/hatch itself. Of the glass is leaking, it will ultimately collect water in the door and rot out internally. The 100 series is really known for that, but have seen it on the 60’s and 80’s as well. Hope that helps. I do still keep in touch with the current owner of the vehicle. Last I was told, he noticed some rust starting to appear on the right lower corner of the window again. As deep as it was, I probably should’ve done multiple coats of POR 15 before coating it fully with the pinch weld primer.

@@FamilyAdventuresOverlanding Thank you so much for posting this video and responding to comments. Im doing this to my 80 right now and I'm going to do a coat of POR 15 first. You are such a huge help, you have no idea!
