I just got a universal bushing head that fitted to the 60v dewalt flexvolt powerhead seamlessly. great for thick rosebushes, that the string head just couldn’t handle. 15-20 minutes on a 9 ah battery…seems like a short run time…but I don’t mind taking frequent breaks. Super powerful!

Thanks for the review. I've only had my trimmer for a few weeks and I love it. Great mention on the ECHO string. That made a world of difference for me. I've only soaked the string if it's old. I was watching another KZbin that mentioned soaking it if it's old, to bring back some flex to the string.

One guy made a video explaining that he ran into problems too when he switched up these batteries. Prolly best to just use batteries that come with your devices. I wouldn't put a 60v battery on a 20v device. I understand they say you can, but then when you run into issues... you don't know if it's because of this switch up or not.

Had same issue with one the 12ah flex batteries that came with my mower. But I had much better result. Found via a social media, an email address with some warrant rep contact info. And after sending a pic of the dead battery, rec'd the new battery in just a few days. It happened after about 6 months. Amazed how good/painless their response was considering it's a very expensive battery. Best customer relations experience I've ever had. I also have the trimmer. Biggest peeve is lack of a cover for the head. I trim tall, thick dry grass and weeds in the summer. The tall stuff wraps around the head way too often. Also, I find the head doesn't release string very well. That said, the thing is powerful and blessedly quiet/cool - better than my old gas trimmers without any of the heat/noise/smell/gasoline + oil filling hassle. I'd recommend a shoulder harness for extended trimming. I guess the algorithm likes you saying 'product' every 12 seconds when referring to the trimmer? Me, not so much.

A great straight ahead no bs review. Main takeaway is do you really want to have replace and improve on a product for it to meet your needs or, does ownership for that fall squarely on the poor engineering choices the design team made? And, if you were to rate the #1 complaint of users of trimmers re-spooling ease or torture would be right there. I am a DeWalt fan and I expect more from them in this case..

Most of reviews I've watched are extremely biased and only talk about the pros which doesn't help an individual determine whether or not it is going to be suitable. It is my understanding that you can use most attachments from other brands with this trimmer. Just make sure it has the square shank connection.

Seen some comments on batteries life etc. @family diy tv , recon you got a lemon it can happen so easily. As for lipo batteries in general It’s bad to run them completely down. Now the BMS in the battery should prevent this. Bad to store them discharged or fully charged. Or in extreme hot or cold. Also leave battery temperature normalise to room temperature before charging it. Optimal storage is around 80%. Check and top up every 3 months or so. I use an Ecig that takes 1x18650 lithium ion battery. I usually swap it out and charge it once it drops to 15% In fact 2 of my batteries are near 10 years old. In constant use and at this stage still nearly 90% of when new. If one does get a dead/ refuses to charge battery pack , it’s usually the BMS that is preventing it charging because the cell voltage has dropped too low. Can also be a defective cell. Had this with a hoverboard that was left in a shed for over 2 years because of covid. I opened the cover on this battery and discovered it had dropped to iirc 15v(48v battery cut off normally around 38 v , will not charge below around 25 volts) So on battery side of BMS I connected a 24v /1a charger and monitored the voltage rise as it charged. Think around 60 min later was up to around 25 volts. No apparent heating etc. At this point I hooked it up to its supplied 48v charger. Charged as normal and is in use since with no issues. Battery packs unless manufactured from low grade components or constantly run down till they cut out will last for years if the simple rules I listed above are followed. Effort required does not come close to mixing fuel and servicing a gas strimmer.

My friend just yesterday called dewalt and got a free 9ah flexvolt on a trimmer and battery he bought at a yard sale. They didn't even want a receipt or even a serial #, just his model # To me, this is a company that stands behind their products like non other I know of. I think some people just get that new representative or one that is having a bad day or even bad at their job. I've learned to just hang up and call back to get a different agent. But dewalt is super solid in all areas.. best out there by a mile, so take his comments against their customer service with a grain of salt.

Just after using my new DCST9721X, I found your video. Thanks for the info. The only thing I disagree with is your comment about the weight. I find the thing to be heavy. But, oddly, I see how yours rotates and moves as you handle it and it sure looks a lot lighter than mine. Weird. I'd also previously ordered that new spooler (it'll be arriving this week) and hopefully that will be good. As for trimmer line, Project Farm ran some comparison tests and really likes Maxpower Twisted.

Yeah - actually just pulled my string trimmer out after the winter and I can notice the string is more brittle than it was last year. So prob once a year is good enough.

I work for Black and Decker. I heard you mention that you used Craftsman before and now switched to Dewalt. Dewalt, Craftsman, and Black and Decker power tools are all the same now. The only difference is the battery between the three so you can't interchange the batteries between the three companies.

Different story here in Europe. Seller is liable in varying degrees for up to 6 years under our trade description laws. They get 2 chances to repair item and then it’s replacement or refund at buyers choice. Think this is good for 3 years plus warranty renews as if buyer had just purchased the item that day. After 3 years there is a % sliding scale as to the value of the item compared to new price. Complicated but it works and encourages buyer to buy from a reputable dealer or store. I could have saved 50 or 100 euros by buying online , but if there is a problem it gets really complicated. No wonder it retails here for 730 euros including sales tax ( vat) of 23%

I think the coupling on the long handle allows the blower, edger, hedge trimmer, brush trimmer and more as attachments. You mentioned not any or many. There are a bunch including the few you mentioned. Cheers.

I've had mine for a few weeks and I bought it with a Echo Speedfeed head. It's a direct screw on and loads faster and it's more durable. I also bought the DCBL772 60v blower, it comes with a 9ah battery and charger. So I have plenty of run time and I'm going to be buying attachments soon. Great tool and thank you for the review 👍

you only soak the line in water if it is sun damaged and dry. Otherwise, you don't gain anything by soaking it.

I’m curious as to why the battery stopped taking a charge. Do you kill your batteries? You’re really supposed to put them on the charger once the hit one bar. You can feel a reduction in power. I’m more just curious is this machine causes excess load. I have 7 flexvolt batteries that I’ve worked hard but never let die and I’ve never had a problem

Never got explanation on why it stopped taking a charge, it just happened. I'm aware of the discharge suggestions but this battery was brand new, there's nothing I could have done to it, that would have made it not take a charge, short from physically damaging it, which i didn't. think it was just a lemon :( I now have two flexvolt batteries that I use just like my other batteries and they work just fine. I could make time to discharge my batteries and do things like that, but let's be honest, I'm not gonna make time for that. - maybe i should ! I need them to be charged when i need them... on top of that, i have so many batteries, could you imagine trying to manage which one you need to discharge and when ?? ... ha. Sounds like your batteries are good and in my opinion they'll prob be fine for a looong time.. Thanks for the comment !!! -Mike

@@FamilyDIYtv hey just an idea, my old man told me to do this since I recently started getting into the Dewalt cordless tools. To keep track of your batteries label them with a sharpie. I have 2 1.7ah Powerstacks, 1 3ah battery, & 2 XR5Ah. I have the two Powerstack and the XR5Ah numbered “1” & “2” accordingly. Helps me remember which battery I’m using because sometime I just get to working and when they drop to two bars I swap to a full and just leave the low-charge battery on my workbench or the seat of my truck while working. I intend on getting more batteries so I figure this will help me in the long run.

Never let your batteries drain completely but if your battery stop taking a charge there videos on KZbin that shows you how to get back to taking a charge it happened to my battery I drained it too far and wouldn't take a charge and watched a video of how to get it to take charge and it worked very easy

Great video. Thank you. I'm looking for a replacement Dewalt trimmer. Busted the head on my 40max. Do you have issues with the string breaking off inside the head where you have to stop trimming and fish it out? Bumping works but only if the string is already out. I'm using the same stocked orange and black string that came with the trimmer and that might be why. Also I did not know about soaking the string. Thanks for that tip also.

Anyone one I’d try is ugly line (yellow triangle) or twist (green and black twist) or .095 black diamond. The black diamond may end up using more battery bc of the line being thicker but it should still b able to power it decently.

The line feeding head will not last in my experience. Was not able to get parts at the time. Can be replaced with Echo Speed head. Direct replacement. Parts for it are available for them. Great trimmer.

The string trimmer is the 60v flex volt platform. The 20v batteries will not work on it. The 60 V flex batteries are downward compatible to drills and other tools but the 20 V cannot operate the 60 V tools like the string trimmers. DeWalt does make the blowers in the flex volt line along with chainsaws and standard hedge trimmers. The flex volt blowers work 100 times better than the 20 V blowers.

FINALLY!!!!!!!! Someone confirms that you can NOT use 20v batteries on this unit. I’m bending over backwards trying to stick with YELLOW but I can’t bring myself to purchase that awful plastic shakes of a extended hedge trimmer. Also I reached out to DeWalt regarding the pex expansion tool being out of stock EVERYWHERE! They actually answer “sorry you are having difficulties finding our product” REALLY!? 😠 Well thanks to this final pice of info I will NOT be buying this unit nor the super top heavy pole chainsaw with garbage hedge trimmer. And believe me, I have my entire truck yellow! Time to look somewhere else. Thanks dude 🤙🏽

Well yeah, can't power a 60 volt unit with a 20 volt battery. The flex volt batteries are actually three 20v battery packs with electronics to switch between 20 v with more amps, or 60 volt with less amps.

Little update, I gave in and took a shot at a decent deal on the 60v trimmer with blower kit. Just done some light work and so far IMPRESSED! One of the reasons I didn’t want to go with something else besides having everything yellow and black is that I’m banking on the power stack hitting the 60v battery line. When that happens I could use this unit commercially. Imagine the 60v battery the same size as the 9 amp (3 amp @ 60v) but 36 AMPS! 36 amps @ 20v or 12 amps @ 60v GAME OVER!

Not sure how you came to that conclusion, the dewalt has twice the torque and power that Ego has. I have had my own landscaping company for 35 years and mainly did lawn care, this dewalt seems to have the same power of the gas trimmers that I use. I have only used the dewalt on 3 lawns but I'm impressed.

Just ordered the European version of this. Have a vast selection of dewalt cordless tools so made sense. Same machine with subtle differences in parts fitment. Ie while internally the European 54v flexvolt battery is same as USA 60v flexvolt battery, they will not connect in each other. Contact pins rearranged and or difference in casing. Plus from many reviews the dewalt seems to have twice the torque.

I am getting used to mine. I love the convenience and the power is beastly. What I was used to was a curved shaft and counterclockwise rotation, the dewalt spins clockwise. I tried hacking it, but it didn’t work, but I am finally getting the hang of it. It’s a good product.

Not advising hacking your strimmer because in reverse rotation trust angles to the head may not be correct plus most threads are usually designed to tighten in use. Reversing rotation may cause the head to loosen. I suspect this is a brushless motor and if so it has 3 phase wires. Reversing 2 of these should reverse the rotation. Normally swap the outside 2 with each other. Check out videos on electric rc model planes and cars etc you will see how it’s done. Finally AT YOUR OWN RISK Lol

yeah - when i found out i was like WHAT !!! makes sense They even say your' suppose to keep it in a zip lock bag to help it from drying out... seems overkill

the handle doesn't bother me... lately the stock stringer has has been driving me nuts tho... but there's an easy fix for that . -Mike

@@noblegas34 I would because I want to be able to solve a problem should one come up. If customers can't get ahold of you they go to someone who they can. Customer service is half the battle these days. Look at Chick-fil-A. They basically have one product yet own the entire fast food world. The sandwich is great. The customer service is what makes them stand above every other place. Same with Costco. You know if there is a problem, the handle it immediately and with grace. And we have to PAY just to shop there lol. Customer service is king and it's only getting more important.

Wish one person would do a great review and show the dewalt design where the head attaches. Dewalt uses some stupid ass special design that nobody else uses and nobody makes a brush blade adapters for.....I guess I'll have to buy a brush cutter attachment but it won't be a dewalt brand because of their reason for this. To force you to buy the separate attachment. Nobody shows this in any reviews. Attention to detail people!!!!!!! It's not that hard!!!!!!!!!!!!

It comes with a battery… when bought together you’re getting a string trimmer for 50 bucks. And then you can use that battery in other tools ! Win win IMO. But respect your opinion…

Mostly because they use high quality parts like the cells and the plastic housing. The cells usually have a 2 to 3 time longer life span being about 6 years on average. I have 2 20v packs date coded for 2014 and they are still working well.
