Valvoline has changed the Maxlife ATF additive pack to include CVT's now as well folks have been reporting issues with slippage on the new fluid might be worth keeping an eye on it. When I replace my ATF I do 2 spills and fills 5 quarts.

i think your right! i have a 2015 ford escape and it calls for mercon lv and when i did a transmission drain and fill i used the valvoline max atf fluid and i had really bad transmission shudder, drained all of it back out and added motorcraft mercon lv and it was back to normal,

About the crush washer: as long as you dont wayyy overtorque them, they stay elastic enough to last a long time. Its just if you put them on super tight, it flattens them out, making them not as likely to seal nicely in the future
@jonasthemovie5 ай бұрын
It’s not the flattening, it’s the work hardening that ruins them.

Please get new heavy duty Ramps with braces between the upright supports. The yellow ones you use are BARELY adequate for the Corolla ..not the heavy Toyota Sequoia. Safety first. We can't afford to lose you.

The tundras are famous for lower ball joint failure, i assume the sequoia is the same. Something to keep in mind. The shift linkage adjustment is the other bolt. It allows the cable to slide on the shift arm. You actually had plenty of adjustment left but you fixed it with the bushing. I have a 2000 tundra with the 4.7 v8 non vvti. It has 408,000 miles on it and runs flawless. Doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil. It's a trd and I put a lock rite locker in the rear 2 years ago. It's a tuff little truck man. It takes 6.5 quarts to fill it up and I've always ran toyota filters with conventional oil. Walmart and advance carries toyota filters

That's awesome Brandon! That gives me hope. And thanks for the tips :-) .... I probably do need to look at the ball joints. My brother inlaw just broke one of his a few months ago while driving his Tundra. --- thankfully no one was hurt.

I think there's suppose to be a retaining clip to ensure the shift linkage doesn't walk off the dowel. Also, look forward to your results using Valvoline R&P in the Toyota. I just switched over on my '06 Mustang GT 345k based on "The Motor Oil Geek's" recent video. Consuming 1qt/800 miles for over 2 years now. Very little smoke out the exhaust. Replaced the stem seals last year with no change. Tried most of the additives you did with no change.
@FamilyFriendlyDIY5 ай бұрын
Wow ... 345k miles? ... I think you're right about the clip. It looked like it should have had one, but don't know how it would have come off ... unless the shop never put it back on after the shifter repair?? 😦

I had some strange issues with old nissan maxima with the Neutral Safety switch and the Shift linkage grommet which is under the shifter on the cable. I replaced both of them and that fixed the issue. where the car wouldn't start because it thought it was in gear and not in Park. I was able to start it by move from Park to N and back to Park or Start it in N. turns out thats a common thing i found out especially on Nissan's and GM. I no longer have the Maxima, I sold it after fixing this. it had 247k miles vid for that replacement of NSS and shift linkage grommet on the maxima are on my channel

Cut a hole in the skid plate, seriously what's honestly stopping you. 90% of people or service centers just remove them. I cut a large hole in mine for my 09 accord to access the transmission plug and I've never regretted it once.

@@bigdaddymak1439 Is it though on a 15 year old vehicle with 200k+ miles? He's already acknowledged its annoying to remove every oil change, most vehicle older than 5 years no longer have their skid plates anyways. A hole to remove the filter solves the issue which the manufacturer clearly neglected. When my car finally dies at 400k+ miles I'm sure the fact my transmission bolt is accessible threw the skid plate will make a wonderful conversation starter while I'm on the side of the road.

I’ve been hearing good things about restore and protect, but with everything you’ve done to the Corolla so far, I don’t have a lot of hope it’s going to solve the problem. Rings are probably too far shot at this point. But still looking forward to the experiment.

Dave, you are a hopeless Toyota addict. Seek alternate mechanical attention. lol Q: Did you ever fill the Corolla w/ 70w Hardley Davison motor ole and a couple bottles of Motor Molasses? It works but you may not need to go all the way to that extent to slow it down to your satisfaction. I discovered it in my GM 5.7L/ 350 cid Diesels when blow by got to be a real problem. As previously stated, I was using 1 qt. of 10W-40 in 2 tanks of fuel, and I cut it down to less than 1 in 4 or 5 tanks. Also Too, I have a 1973 IH Cub Cadet lawn tractor that I tried it in just recently. I was seriously over heating it w/ out knowing and it began to eat Shell Rotella 15W-40 semi tractor engine ole at a rate of 6 oz per acre of grass mowed. It's got a very respectable Kohler K 301 12 HP (air cooled) engine and it's all original except tires. I wore out the fronts. I began having trouble 2 years ago but only figgered out just this spring what was going on. The cooling air inlet screen got coated w/ ole film over the past 50yrs and collected enough dust to slow the cooling air. It was so gradual who would suspect? There is no heat gauge to alert me. How hot does an air cooled engine run? And where do you measure the temp? (that's a crazy thing to ask google) It made a cloud of blowby smoke *(very old tech, crankcase vents to atmosphere, not to carburetor air) while mowing after about 30 minutes, when it got Hot Hot Hot. After I finally wised up and checked the screen, which is buried under the dash, gas tank and all sorts of covers, I did the best I could to clean that cooling air inlet screen w/ Brākleen Aerosol. I know even after a whole can it's probably not that clean, it's just so inaccessible. I had gone to straight 40W racing ole, but then figgered out what was making it get so hot. The 40W racing ole cut the blowby smoke and ole consumption down to barely noticeable after the acre of grass even on hot days. Proof of pudding. ben/ michigan

Dave I *do* have a better way! Keep everything the same but no need to touch the ramps… or jacks of any kind. The Sequoia is high enough already. I don’t mind the skid plate - it’s the jacks and ramps I hate to get out.

modern ATF has very little additives compared to engine oil. There is no combustiio byproduct, acid etc inside a transmission. It´s not necessary. I don´t understand why people use ATF for cleaning purposes all the time

You are supposed to check the transmission fluid with the engine running and the transmission in park.

I just learned something. ... I thought the cold marks were there to check when "cold" but everyone seems to say warm it up first and keep it running. 👍
@bdtaylor19795 ай бұрын
@@FamilyFriendlyDIY The cold marks are where the level is supposed to be when the engine/transmission are cold and the hot marks are where it’s supposed to be when the engine/transmission are at operating temperature. But whether you are checking a cold or hot transmission fluid level the engine should be running. Honda is one of the only ones that I know of where you check the automatic transmission fluid level with the engine off.
