All the teens in this comment section just solidifiy the need for an app like this 😂. When you get older, you will realize that you were never as mature or level headed as you think you are. Seems to me this app has plenty of privacy so long as you are not engaging in questionable behavior online. As for it ruining communication that would be a choice on your part, not on your parents. Your parents job is to protect and raise you, to preserve your innocence up to a point where you are able to distinguish good and bad for yourselves. not to be your bestie that lets you do whatever you want.

I get the “no privacy” comments on here but personally I love these features since I use them for my grandmother’s phone. She doesn’t know how a lot of things work and I just want to keep her safe online. It is actually a very helpful tool. In he past she has purchased things accidentally and she has filled out personal information on sketchy websites, this keeps her safe. I can only imagine the same goes for some children.

Bark may be the best app for parental controls. But it is extraordinarily difficult to set the schedule for the week. The editing interface is very unclear and it is cumbersome. Each time I edit it takes hours of frustration to edit it and even when I do succeed, I can’t figure out what I did different in my 30th attempt that resulted in success. Further, since I only edit the schedule a few times a year, anything I learned from my last edit is long since forgotten. Further, when I purchased Bark, I expected I could turn off my child’s phone. Instead, I can only disconnect it from the internet. Like so many IT startups, Bark has plenty of well written marketing copy but they are uncommonly weak at providing a good User Interface and much worse at providing effective documentation. Bark may be the best but Bark will frustrate most parents to the point of disparity.

I have the exact same complaints. The UI is not very friendly (I'm extremely experienced on computers). I think they have glitches in the scheduling features. I also have no idea how I finally get it working correctly, because too many failed attempts happen first. And yes, not being able to lock the entire device (not just Internet access) is a DEAL BREAKER! My granddaughter stays up literally all night if she can get a hold of her device. No internet? No problem, she'll just play offline games all night. We get tired of having to hide her tablet. I'd much rather just lock it when needed.

It's not about that, my main problem with this parental control app is that it notifies parents for dumb things like cuss words and stuff. There are better ways to respect a childs privacy. Maybe go through their phone every now and then, let them be open with you, instead of forcing them to be watched, let them tell you things they feel comfortable telling you. Parents should never read their kids text messages unless they have a reason to.

As a teenager, I feel as though Bark invades children's privacy. Not only that, but it also diminishes communication skills between children and their parents, and provides no chance for open communication within families. If we use a software like Bark, children won't know how to TELL parents about specific situations, which again ruins communication skills between parents and children. Instead of using a software like Bark, you should teach your child to be open to communicating with you, and also be open to any ideas your children have to improve communication. For example, instead of monitoring your children's messages because you think they are "concerning", actually TALK to your child about WHY you think the specific messages are concerning, and if there is a problem you can work with your child to find a solution. If you use Bark, your child will be more likely to NOT communicate you because you are basically spying on them, and looking at everything they do. They'd obviously be scared knowing that you're invading their privacy, so they'd cut of friend groups and leave group chats. This is harmful because it can also ruin their social life. Yes, I agree that monitoring concerning behavior is important, and also that children should be careful on the internet. However, teenagers are a whole different subject. They have to learn that there are certain situations online where you have to learn how to be independent and use critical thinking. That is a whole stage of being teenager. When you're riding a bike, you don't keep the training wheels on forever. Instead, you gradually remove the training wheels over time. Similarly, Bark doesn't let teenagers BE independent. It's like always have training wheels on and never removing them. Bottom line is, Bark is an invasion of privacy, and that there are better methods for seeing what your kids are doing, and also having open communication with your children. Bark will just put fear in your children, and it will ruin all of their hopes for any sort of social life whatsoever.

Dear Teenagers who are on here because they can't do the things that are bad for you, Physiologically, your brain is still busy developing. Your frontal cortex needs to catch up with the other parts of your brain. The frontal part of your brain is the part where logical thinking comes from. You know the anger and extreme irritation you are feeling? It's absolutely normal because your emotional brain is now in control of you, until the logical part catches up. This is why your parents need to install these apps on your phone. To keep you safe from yourself and from other people that want to take advantage of your MIA logic. This works like Nanny McPhee. When you don't want it, it NEEDS to be there. When you do want it, you don't need it anymore. The real truth is that you are angry because you can't do stupid things that could ruin your life. You may not love us right now....(and let me tell you, as a parent, it's heartbreaking. We have given so much of ourselves to growing you up. We have sacrificed alot and you won't understand this craziness until you have children of your own...or we are gone and you don't have anyone caring about your safety anymore)...but unfortunately for you and for us, we can't stop loving you. It's not possible. We will just love you forever. We don't like you right now. There's a difference between loving and liking. You are ungrateful and demanding. Hormones have turned you back into temper tantruming toddlers again...but with a full vocabulary of words that really hurt us. It's soul destroying watching you try so hard to do RIDICULOUS things that you will look back on one day and ask "What the actual was I thinking?!?!?". That's right. You will be embarrassed about this. I know you feel like adults, but once you realise that you are not behaving like adults, perhaps you will understand why we need things like this for your phones.

Look, I already have experience and I know exactly what this is about, so you're not going to give it to me. 1 the parents who put this do not care about their children at all, because they do not listen to their feelings or know how they feel. 2 it's one thing to monitor the sites you access so you don't see inappropriate things and quite another to be involved in their lives and monitor their every move. That's luck? that's love? is that appreciated? and do not come with the one who pays for wifi and expenses, etc. Because if they don't like doing that, not having had children, which is very easy.

I feel these apps are necessary for younger children who need a phone when walking to and from school, and when their away from parents to be able to contact people. To me, this app will be used to teach my kids safety etc when having a device that can access so much of the outside world. I want to teach them young about it and this will help in that. Once they fully understand safety and have experience with the device etc and of course hit a certain age, I find it not as needed anymore. If you teach them with it and they understand and get it down then I feel like once their teens I really would not want to have to worry about monitoring them anymore because hopefully by that time they have learned everything they need to. Now for instances where threats are made towards children by someone else etc to avoid more school shootings...I find that very useful because a parent may see the threat and be able to report before anything goes wrong. My kids are under ten and now need phones so we will use this as an educational time so they have good knowledge by the time we no longer need to monitor.

I'm going to give you my two cents even though I know you're going to be hostile because you sound like a child with an attitude I don't care what your actual age is. These apps are useful in the event of people talking to our children in nasty derogatory sexual ways this is not to monitor the child's entire life or micromanage them I'm sorry you don't like that That's a you problem Yes the parents are going to say we pay for the Wi-Fi we paid for the phone Big fucking whoop we're not saying we don't like it we're saying that while you live under our house and you live using our money you're going to abide by our rules until you're a legal adult and you can make your own choices No one is saying that you're feelings aren't valid You're allowed to feel the way you do No one has to give you permission for that crap either however valid feelings and valid actions do not always sink up parents do this shit so they can protect their children whether they like it or not they are your parents not your friends and that won't change until you're an adult and you have a grasp on reality in an idealistic world this shit wouldn't be necessary but we don't live in that kind of world in any case I understand how you feel I bet you if your parents are using this they do care about how you feel but how you feel versus your safety they're going to pick safety every time

As a teen I very much agree that these apps are needed with all the nasty sadistic webs we can access jut by tapping are screens ( a bit sketchy there charging money for it the software isn’t THAT complicated) Kids/teens need to learn discipline and self control. But does anyone here find it comical that that us kids/teens are being told that violence and $ex out of marriage is bad yet the moment we turn are backs our parents /Adults literally do just that. And as we get older they tell us the messed up crap they got into when they where kids? I know our parents are adults and they make there own choices. But from my point of view, If you really want your child/teen to listen to you being a hypocrite is not the way to go.
@fernandos.81582 жыл бұрын
You have a good point but I would not call it hypocritic if your parent did the same as a child and is now telling you not to do it. It is called learning from their mistakes and are trying to teach you not to make the same mistakes they did. Yes I agree, parents need to allow their own kids to make mistakes, however some mistakes can be very bad and could have been prevented with some parental guidance and discipline.

XxHurricane I completely agree with you. It's a struggle from early ages up into adulthood. Being a hypocrite is a terrible way to lead by example. Kids can certainly spot the hypocrisy while living with their parents. I agree with Fernando's comments as well. We as parents should live the life we promote to our kids, no excuses. We all are fallen and must regularly repent and run from such behaviors that make us the hypocrite. However none of us would ever be able to speak biblical moral truth if only the sinless could speak about it. In light of our current and past sin we all that stand for truth must still proclaim what is right and go to war with the sin that remains a struggle in our lives. It's a broken fallen world and parents come in all levels of hypocrisy. You sound wise enough at your current place in life to be able to see these things. You can spot hypocrisy as a sin and wrong and now you can live and strive to live a Godly life yourself. We will always have those that sin and play the hypocrite around us. Pray for those that you see in sin including your family. When in the right place a gentle rebuke and call to repentance can be all it takes for someone to realize people can see there double standard and help them feel convicted to change. We each will stand before our creator ultimately we will have to focus on our own walk regardless of the sin around us.
