This famous Alcoholics Anonymous Speaker Anthony H. tells his story after 22 years sober. He became an actor in the 1960’s, and came to America to a make a pot of gold, but ended up in Alcoholics Anonymous in December of 1975 instead.
In this humorous talk, Anthony tells us why he is baffled with normal drinkers, many of the lessons he’s learned in recovery, and the beautiful life, and beautiful people he’s met in Alcoholics Anonymous.
If you’ve enjoyed this talk by Anthony H. here is another talk he gave at 16 years sober in Los Angeles California. - • Famous AA Speaker Anth...

Thank you for posting these videos. Im a member of AA and I have been sober since August 1980. Now I am getting old and unable to get to meetings on a regular basis, so these videos help me to achieve another sober day. Thank you.

Isn't it amazing to realize this is what Anthony Hopkins really sounds like. The man and not the actor. At ease being himself with his AA family. That's the extraordinary magic of AA.

I am 5 days sober and have come to the realization my life depends on the AA programs/people. I am extremely grateful to hear people like Anthony Hopkins speak of his struggles. It makes me feel not so lonely in this disease.

I never imagined that this extremely talented actor had the same problem as me, I'm so grateful that Sir Anthony Hopkins spoke on this. It just shows that no matter who you are, booze can destroy you if you don't abstain from it.

I think you should refer to him as Tony H......... I think that is what he would prefer. I heard another very famous actor one night at a meeting in LA say "I have never once broken my anonymity. But tonight, you will break it for me when you tell your friends that you were in a meeting with me." Sadly........he was totally right. When we tell people not in AA about who we see in meetings, we are the ones breaking the Tradition of anonymity.

Yeah. It sure does sound like Anthony Hopkins! But then, we know there are quite a few good impersonators. Regardless, I don't think he's said anything that isn't helpful and consistent with the program. And that supports it's value.

I couldn't see my life with or without alcohol or drugs and I was nervous breakdown crazy in conflict but I knew I either had to surrender or die because I was on my way there if I kept going the way I was going and that's why I went to 12 step meetings in the first place because I couldn't control something that was controlling my every decision, so I did what was suggested in the rooms of A.A. at the time, prayer, big book, look for sponsor ect, but at the bottom line it was only the first 2 that worked, the fellowship just gave the typical suggestions, I finally was guided by God and his angels to a Big Book step study group which turned everything around for me because I was willing, this was in 1990. Now I just study and practice A Course In Miracles because it's the only thing that resonates with me. Turns out that for me the steps, the fellowship, and the rest of what A.A. "is" are just pointers to what The Real Deal is, necessary tools to move from pain to Enlightenment. in the end the "Group Of Drunks" the chips and the rest of A.A. are all just illusions, because love is all there is, so, as arrogant as this may sound I've accepted God for them, because if I told them The Truth well...they just wouldn't accept it. Together We Ascend; Adrian

39:35 .... I was 6 months sober, thinking of drinking, don't know why but I listened to this audio instead. I got sober at the clubhouse in Kissimmee, and as soon as I heard him mention it I jumped up, not wanting to drink anymore. We are truly the luckiest people alive. Thanks for keeping me sober, Tony. It's been nearly nine years since I have had a drink. Thanks to AA and God.
