Miles was my husband's Godfather....Thank you for show casing his grave and Duke Ellington discovered my mother in law who then toured and recorded with him, She recorded Sophisticated Lady amongst other's with him.. She sang under the name of Yvonne Lanauze and went on to sing under the name of Eve Smith. She is the last surviving member of Dukes troop now at 94 💙🎵🎶🎺👍🏽

There are several people putting out videos like these, but I find yours to be the best. Why? I appreciate that not only are they polished and the music is beautiful, but you don't feel that you have to be in the shot. Though this is your baby, you understand that the entertainers, etc. are the stars of the show. Thank you, Mr. Dark. You have another lifelong fan and subscriber here.

Billie Holiday was absolutely amazing. I once watched a documentary about her. It said that Billie refused to sing and record “strange fruit” at first. Then it stated that she got so emotional whilst singing it live, she couldn’t go on stage to sing it, unless she was drunk and high on cannabis. Strange fruit is one of the most emotional and powerful songs I have ever heard.

Irving Berlin's gravesite so simple for the impact this great composer had on our country. You would walk right by it if you were in that cemetery. RIP Irving. Celia Cruz by comparison had a magnificent memorial as does so many others that many of us never heard of. Oh, well. Those who would know these old timers may not be the audience you need. We are certainly being educated with all the talent in this video containing all the biggies. Love the music.

Another cool Preminger tidbit was that he was who made the first strike against the Hollywood Blacklist by having the blacklisted Dalton Trumbo write Exodus and crediting him despite Trumbo’s status. This would lead to Kirk Douglas revealing Trumbo wrote Spartacus and would eventually help to end the blacklist all together.

I watched this video a year ago, but I must have left the screen for a while because I don't remember this fabulous resting place or the amount of historically talented people that are here, especially the African Americans and their fight against extreme racism. Ironically, I watched this in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement. I could comment on every grave, but when I hear about the ways whites have demeaned and suppressed African-Americans in life AND in death, I shake my head and raise my hands to the heavens in disgust. People are people period. I've never understood how any human can think that another human is not worthy of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And I am so impressed with the entertainers who stepped up to defy racism.

14:00 The Duke Ellington Orchestra continued on with his son Mercer at least into the 1990s. I saw them perform then in Yale’s “Music Shed” in Norfolk, Connecticut in the mid 1990s-Phenomenal! Many of the musicians were quite old and had played with Duke’s origins orchestra.

It’s interesting how someone so famous that virtually everyone knows is buried in such a small insignificant grave and yet those that aren’t so well known and didn’t make the iconic landmark impressions that someone more famous did have just incredible and huge tombstones , gravestones markers whatever you wanna call them. It seems a shame that some markers do not reflect the amount of celebrity with which they were known in life. I know it depends on the cost and the family‘s wishes but still deserve a little bit better recognition than the grave marker indicates. Burt Lancaster comes to mind in one of your previous videos. I thought it was a shame he had such a small and insignificant marker. Irving Berlin deserve a much bigger marker.

I completely disagree with the OP, just because they were famous doesn't make them anymore special than anyone else. I'm not sure how many people that are watching this video are from NYC, but these plots are very difficult to get because of the location. If a family purchases 3 plots, they're entitled to those 3 plots and that correlating space. They had the foresight to purchase it in advance and plan their deaths accordingly. Btw, some of these celebrities have no connection to this cemetery. For example, Celia Cruz was only buried in this cemetery because it was near Miles Davis. Aside from that there's no other connection and she didn't live in the area. Most of the people buried there spent the majority of their lives around the location of the cemetery. Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn and St John's Cemetery in Queens are the same way. I don't see why any person should have one huge memorial over another.

I don't make very many comments on your videos....but I enjoy every one of them!! Your voice, narrative style and peaceful demeanor are perfect for these kinds of videos!! It would be so awesome to be able to explore these cemeteries with you, not in a creepy way, but you seem like a person who would be amazing to spend an afternoon with just getting lost in the magic of finding favourite celebrity gravestones!! RIP to all the souls represented in each of these videos!! Thank you so very much for what you do!!

@Sue Taft First of all, you don't know how to spell. "Roumor" is not an English word. Second, you are total fake. Before this video, you never heard of Otto Preminger. Third, you are just plain ignorant and are fooling no one. Preminger's adoption of his son by Gypsy is well documented including family photos. People like you who pretend to know things positively sicken me. www.nytimes.com/1971/02/06/archives/preminger-is-seeking-to-adopt-his-son-by-late-gypsy-rose-lee.html

@Sue Taft Spelling is not grammar. (Note the correct spelling of grammar.) As far as your grammar is concerned, I don't have the time or the inclination to help you. Also, it comes as no surprise you do not care about improving your poor English skills. You can stay ignorant for all I care.

I bought a book of Poe's poems from a Schoolastic Book Fair when I was in 6th grade. I chose it mainly because it was one of the only books I could afford. I read it cover to cover at least a dozen times :) Unfortunately, I loaned it to someone when I was in my 20s and never got it back :(
