Clarification: After Curly left the Stooges, brother Shemp filled the third role until his death, then Joe Besser joined the group. But Shemp and Joe Besser were their own characters. When Joe DeRita later joined the group, he was made to be a "Curly" archetype, hence "Curly Joe." So while Joe DeRita didn't immediately replace Curly, he was the next to "play" Curly. I could have been more clear on that point.

Grass conditions are horrible. My family is buried there and I complain consistently about the watering & the grass weeds. There are many gravemarkers that are covered with overgrown grass and dirt. Cemetery sell you about how much they respect the memory of our loved ones but actually no respect in keeping their resting areas maintained. If you loved ones are buried here, Please complain. Our loved ones deserve better!

I particularly appreciate you including the contributions of people from the late 1800's and early 1900's. It is a pleasure to see someone as young as you who is interested and so knowledgeable about show business people who lived long before you were born. This reflects your depth of intellect and global thinking. Thank you for investing your time and talent in your chosen field. It is greatly appreciated and never taken for granted. The scene of the orange clouds in the sky behind the fountain that you used at the beginning and end of this video: very cool. The jet airliner flying over your shoulder while you were walking: very inventive and demonstrative of your continued situational awareness. Your closing remarks about the dead walking the green carpet: very cognitive. Your artistic expression combined with your future cemetery locations is greatly anticipated. For instance, I look forward to your production of Hillside Memorial Park which will undoubtedly include the tomb of Al Jolson (with the cascading waterfall in front). This shows why I really hate flat grave markers. Even in well kept cemeteries (which this is clearly not) they tend to settle and sink into the ground. And they suffer from the elements, being walked on and lawn mowers rolling over them. And of course, they are simply boring.

Jon-Erik Hexum was an 80's actor who died in 1984 by self accidental shooting in the temple while filming "Cover Up". He was in the film "Making of a Male Model" and also in the "Voyagers" series. His ashes was scattered in Point Dume but fans bought a cenotaph for him next to the Folded Wings. Fans chose that place because he use to live right there close to Kenwood Street in Burbank before he passed away.

What he did violated the first rule of gun safety- always assume it's loaded- that does not let the property master (propman) off the hook though, the weapon should only have been loaded just before the stunt, and he should never let it out of his control, even a blank- which was the load- can generate a force in the thousands of pounds, which is what fragmented Hexum's skull causing the fatal injury.

Great vids and I find myself captivated on who you'll call out next! While Oliver Hardy did die of cardiac arrest (heart attack), in the years working up to his passing, he had nearly doubled in weight until his doctor told him "Lose the weight now or lose your life." So he search the Hollywood crowd and found a doctor who promised a radical treatment and in the first two months, he lost nearly 200 lbs....and that's when his heart basically said "I can't handle this anymore."

@@60toodles It's more complicated than that, isn't it? You are non-optionally required to pay into a maintenance fund, which will supposedly support the upkeep of the cemetery in perpetuity. At least that was how it worked with my mother at a big, for profit cemetery. So no, I shouldn't HAVE to also do maintenance myself. Although I will, if needed, when I visit. But what if I don't live nearby? My father is buried several states away. If his grave gets overgrown, is it my fault for not flying out regularly to trim the grass or brush dirt off his stone? If part of the "sales pitch" is that the grave will be maintained using the money all of the families of the interred have paid for that purpose, the fault lies with the cemetery, not the families (and for older burials, it is less likely there even is any immediate family in a position to do grave maintenance).
@darkwood777
@darkwood777 3 жыл бұрын
@@60toodles I don't think it is the responsibility of the family to remove weeds and reseed dead grass. That should be covered by the perpetual care that one receives when the plot is purchased. Also not everyone who dies has a family. This is why perpetual care exists.

+Jason Stewart : I was wondering the exact same thing! This absolutely angers me. How abhorrently disrespectful. That doesn’t even take into account the exorbitant fees they charge for the plot, the vault, the opening and closing of the grave and the headstone itself. If my family were buried there, I would be looking through the purchase contracts and see if maintaining the cemetery was included in the ‘services’. If it were, I would be calling a lawyer. No way I wouldn’t sue them civilly for the money it would take to cover reinterment and the legal fees needed for the action. That’s absolutely inexcusable the disrespectful way they’re treating that cemetery! Shameful. Just shameful.

I didn't know that Gail Russell rested here. She was such a presence in her films. Too bad her life was so sad and tragic. Another actress you should include in a future video - I mean, come on, it's the LEAST you can do - is the great Symona Boniface. She is one of the most under-appreciated straight women in film - let alone The Three Stooges. That's right, she was the recipient of many pies in the face - which she took with grace and dignity, but her most famous line is probably "You DISGRACEFUL vagabonds!!!" which, when people realize who you are talking about, will recite automatically. Let's not forget her contributions.

Yakima was the stunt double in the "Burning of Atlanta" scene from Gone with the Wind. He doubled for Clark Gable. that was a live shot that could only be done one.

the airplane placed right in front of a completely different monument seems really out of place. I admire the airplane and what it stands for but the placement is weird. JMO

It's not an airplane, it's a space shuttle. Yeah, it is a weird placement, even though it is a tribute to a loss from space travel.

It would look 100 times better if it was cared for and displayed with some appropriate landscaping. Being covered in mold and mildew makes it look trashy, and is disrespectful.

I guess I find it sad that no more family around to visits most these grave sites, so sad that you had to dig and clear the stone. I'm very impressed on your research and presentation of all your cemetery tours. I wish every grave had a button that you could push to give a short clip like you do for these people. Everyone life is interesting I feel. Everyone whom walked this planet has a story. You do great work.

I grew up on Pass Ave and we used to go play in the Portal when we were kids. We thought it was haunted and it was creepy. My mother, stepbrother and stepfather are buried there. This video brought back memories. BTW, a tidbit of information: there was a small plane crash just outside the entrance to the portal. I heard the crash and rode my bike there right after. One person was killed and a large hole was there for quite awhile at the crash site. That cemetery has a lot of history...

flat stones make for easier mowing and upkeep, its the main reason they do these types of stones, but they can get overgrown if not kept up. At our local cemetery , the upkeep people, use a weed eater around all the stones. Oliver Hardy's ashes are buried in the Masonic area of the cemetery

Bad ass name for a memorial park! But it's sad to see the stars of the silver screen past laid to rest and then seemingly forgotten and this cemetery is in HORRIBLE SHAPE the flat stones, no flowers, seems no friends or family are even visiting granted their children are most likely elderly now and have kids & prolly grand kids but if my grandpa or even great grandpa was a legend like these guys id definitely keep his grave up keep! This place is in SAD SHAPE compared to say Forest Lawn or Hollywood Forever

This was done years ago, I hope that they have restored the grounds which are in deplorable condition. At the very least let volunteers spread some Weed and Seed. This hurts my heart. I appreciate your videos. You are an excellent narrator and film maker. Thank you for remembering those souls in such an informative and non exploitive manner.

“Fun” fact that’s not really fun but: Dale Black, a young pilot was the only survivor of a plane crash that crashed into the portal of the folded wings and had a miraculous near death experience and kept his visit to heaven secret for over 30 years until he decided to become a minister and wrote a book about the miracles in his life. His book is called “flight to heaven” and I strongly suggest watching his interviews here on KZbin as well and see for yourselves. His plane crashed into that very monument in this cemetery.

I agree with all here, this cemetery is in awful shape, especially compared to Forest Lawn. I must say though that it's more "real" than Forest Lawn, where they exhibit some, if not most celebrities almost as "gods".That has always bothered me. All these people were gifted in one sense or another yes, but they are just people, like us, and we all die. Sorry to be negative. Just my opinion. Great job Art. Thank you so much for your work on these fascinating tours.
