Mariah is the most successful female singer of all time, the reactions are normal. There are very few above Mariah, maybe only The Beatles. Other greats are at the same level: The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Queen, The Bee Gees, Elton John, Madonna.. but talking about songwriting only Paul McCartney with 32 and Barry Gibb (from the Bee Gees) with 17, were more successful. Mariah has the voice of an angel but also, she is a great songwriter. I don't know exactly how many of her number ones were truly written by her or how many were just credited as part of the deal, but she had so many hits that it's baffling to me how is it that she doesn't get enough credit for her songwriting abilities.

For example "All I Want For Christmas Is You" was written mostly by Walter Afanasieff, but as part of the agreement, and obviously because of her contribution to the song, she is credited as co-writer. The same happened with "We Belong Together" with Jermaine Dupri, Manuel Seal, and Johntá Austin. That tends to happen with many famous artists that chose what songs they want to perform and in Mariah's case, help in the perfection of the song, etc. That's the only reason I count Barry Gibb above. In Barry's case he wrote all the songs he is credited alone or as The Bee Gees. But even so, Mariah probably wrote all by herself more than half of her number ones. She deserves way more credit as a songwriter.
