I've seen a few live performances where the singers sounded exactly as their recorded versions. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Charlie Daniels, and Adele. they all had one thing in common: they didn't dance, like at all. they moved some, but no dancing. you need deep breaths to belt out adele style and dancing makes that difficult. they also sang to their strengths and know how to change the song according to what's happening to their voice. that's why singers sound so different live, they dance and they push their voice to do stuff it can't.

I saw Taylor perform when she was playing small venues in Nashville. Yes she can sing. She is also a very nice person. After a concert at Bridgestone she went to an ice cream place on Broadway. She got to the back of the line and would not go to the front. She signed autographs and posed for pictures. Very well mannered.

Jeff Berger Nope. There's Country artists like Martina McBride and Trisha Yearwood ot Carrie Underwood who can really sing and have obviously had correct training. I like Taylor but she's just not that good of a singer. She sells herself well. She had a wonderful marketing team but that's about it. I don't see very much longevity in her career because she's now in her 30's and isn't a strong vocalist. I think she will do great in Vegas in a couple of years. Her loyal fan base are getting old too so they would flock to see her in Vegas.

Wait a minute, I was a professional singer for many years so I know what I speak about when it comes to singing. People think singing is so easy and you just do it. However, singing in your car and singing professionally on stage are two different things. It’s sounds like many of the samples you played were concert audio. When singers are doing a concert they don’t usually stand in one spot the whole time. They are usually dancing or running from one side of the stage to the other. This will leave you out of breath and make it harder to hold a proper note, especially as you get older. You try running a marathon while singing a song and see how you do. Another thing that will happen as you get older is your vocal range changes. Someone that may have had a five octave range when they were young may only have a three or four octave range when they get older. Thing will make it even harder to do concerts and run around. Plus , we need to consider how many songs they sing in one performance. Think about how long one of those shows is, hours? This is why often you will see the singer take a break will one of their band members does a solo or they have an intermission. Not only is it for costume and set changes, but also so the singer can rest their voice. Many singers are doing a concert like this twice a day and then they go to the next city and do it again. Singing in a concert or even musical theater puts a lot of stress on the vocal cords when they are doing it day after day. Not to mention if these singer get sick and perform anyway because they don’t 2ant to disappoint their fans. So we need to think about these things before judging a singer to harshly.

I also think that if you want to say someone can't sing, you need to judge their BEST performances, not their worst ones. Everyone has bad days, and the more footage of you there is out there, the easier it will be to cherry pick the moments where you messed up. If someone's very best performances are still off key, THEN we can say they can't sing. Otherwise, it's someone who can sing having an off day.

Not really. This new school just can't sing. When it comes to singing either you can or you can't. If you can then your voice has to be trained daily either in school or chorus or church or all three which is best. There is a difference between tones and singing off key. Unless you use off key notes for some effect it irritates the listener with a good ear for sounds. So sorry, I cannot agree. Some singers simlly cannot sing and it looks like sb wants to keep them afloat when they should have sunk a long time ago. Some great talents will never succeed because they do not want the music industry to make burgers of them. Sometimes one can see a great potential in a singer but when s/he gets into the hands of the co called professionals, he begins to torture music.

atleast taylor doesn't use autotune, she is honest with us, and doesn't claim to sing better than we know she does. Also she is known for her lyric writing, and even if she can't hit arianna notes she can sing pretty well.

Yeah I never understood why some people judge singers based on how high they can go. For me it's how well they convey the emotion of the song, take Johnny cash for example when he covered Nine Inch Nail's "Hurt". He is in such a low tone but you can feel the emotion. I love Ariana too she is an amazing singer, but you don't have to hit a whistle note to be a good singer.
