Oliwia Swan most beauty gurus don’t have sensitive eyes/skin. It would make it hard to test all that product. I think even if they had staining they’d have been like “wow pigmented” and not thought about it. The other thing is that it’s a red/pink eyeshadow. If there was staining and you had any irritation, it would look a lot worse than it actually was Bc you had a stain surrounding the irritation. So yeah I think kodi’s kinda wildin

I mean.. Most brands do not have videos about their new products. So brands like Urban Decay, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Becca would never have to say anything about this if they launched pressed pigments, but influencers HAVE to inform their customers about this in videos or it's their responsibility if people have allergic reactions? Sure it's great if they explain it like Jeffree did but they don't have to. As long as there's a warning on the packaging of the product. People need to take some responsibility of their own and read about the ingredients if they have sensitive skin. Also, there's no point in yelling and accusing people of lying. That just made that Kodee girl look stupid imo.

@dagmarbrovnbresson14666 жыл бұрын
They both explain it really well, because it is THEIR brand, and THEIR resposibility to disclose this. James is a collaborator of Morphe, and while I do think he should have mentioned that it could stain, just to make sure everyone knew, it is mainly Morphe's problem. It is THEIR formula, THEIR product with James' name on it. He's really just a selling point, honestly - let's be real, he picked out some nice colours, sent a few back with notes, had a tour or two of the lab, probably (and he did a brilliant job in my opinion, I love the colours), as he really isn't educated to handle the actual manufacturing of the product. But they're just letting James take whatever heat that comes up, like they did with Jaclyn's Vault as well.. It's really disgusting.

Jacky Horn you CAN put them on your eyes, there’s always a warning on pigments. That’s just how it is.

Not everyone, I didn't know that. But I do know ketchup can stain. The difference? Everyone uses ketchup or has an idea what ketchup is. Pigments? You would have to educate yourself. Also spilling kitchup on yourself would not cause any allergic reaction, unless you have that kind of allergy. Cosmetics are a different case. Warnings should be made because it is basically chemical or whatever directly applied on your face.

I feel like yes she blew it out of proportion but she was right that James should have said something. The warning labels are either not read or the print can be so small it’s hard to read. Like Jefree and Manny they both mentioned it in their videos so people are aware before purchase. They also said it was a legality reason and it’s kind of undermining the audience to just slap a label on and one that’s not even clear and not tell your customers about it.
@trey2816 жыл бұрын
JDMOokami But it’s not his fault that people don’t want to read labels...
@JDMOokami6 жыл бұрын
Trè I would normally agree with you but as shown the label isn’t very clear. On all the other palettes like Mannys and Jeffrees it is clearly worded on the back. But really no one ever reads terms of use or other warning labels like detergent and such unless they’re there looking for something in particular. Not to say he’s responsible for it but it’s marketed as an eyeshadow palette even if it’s not named as such. I think the whole situation could have been avoided if he had made people more aware of pressed pigments like Manny and Jeffree. And maybe he didn’t because he thought people wouldn’t buy it if he said something but he does cater to a young and inexperienced audience so where I agree legally he isn’t responsible, morally and ethically I think he is.
@trey2816 жыл бұрын

@JDMOokami6 жыл бұрын
Trè I agree people shouldn’t go after James but it will happen when you’re the face of a product. And I’m not saying that James should be responsible for people not reading a label. I just personally think it’s a better ethical move to let people know about the presses pigments like Manny and Jeffree did rather than getting mad at customers get upset over the staining. James seemed to come from a stance that EVERYONE knows about pressed pigments and EVERYONE is aware of the side affects and I think that bit him in the but. You can never just assume anything. I’ve dabbled in makeup but I didn’t know anything about pressed pigments until this drama so I think it was quite foolish of him to be angry over complaints and he didn’t handle the complaints very well. I mean with how quick he got upset he should have covered all his bases. He is in no way at fault and I’m not blaming him. Kodee is at fault I just think that to save face and cover his bases so the bad PR didn’t happen he should have handled things a little differently

Imagine warning about an allergic reaction about 0.2% of your fans could have to one color in the palette. Imagine being mad because other beauty gurus didn't have that same allergy as you, therefore didn't warn about it. Imagine being mad that beauty gurus (or even just consumers with common sense) knew that a pressed pigment can stain your skin and therefore said nothing about it. Equating James with Manny and Jeffree is unfair. They own their companies. James is a collaborator. His say in actual formula is probably slim. He told them what he wanted and they made it. The only to do what he wanted as with pigment. This is more on Morphe in my opinion. They should have educated James more and done their packaging differently. James is also 19. He may be good at the KZbin business but he probably isn’t ready for the real make up biz and doesn’t know what kinds of good questions to ask. Pretty much everyone is in the wrong though. His replies were not compassionate and her rant really was a cry for attention.

I just find it werid that out of all the people in the world it would happen to someone named "kodeerants" and "her friend", I wouldn't believe somebody whose job is to "rant" in the first place. She went about it all wrong, if contacting James/Morphe directly could've got a year supply of makeup. But no, she preferred the negative clout, which is ridiculous. Also, I do believe she didn't use a primer/concealer, so it's her fault for not protecting her eyes. Primer/Concealer is not just used to help the colours pop, it's also to protect your skin. So, I think she's an idiot for not taking multiple people's advice on how to correctly apply the pigments. Also, yes James should've touched on the staining more than he did. But this is waaay too exaggerated.

I feel like Kodee took it a little too far with her screaming and yelling "DECEPTION" as much and as aggressively as she did. It would have been much more effective to reach out to James, tell him what happened, and express that you can't find a warning and you're in pain. The videos make it hard to verify the staining, but I did see hives when she was in her original videos, which I've seen can be very painful and uncomfortable. Still, I feel like she went about it the wrong way, so now basically no matter what she does she's sort of screwed. If she calms down, people will accuse her of faking or kissing ass, and if she doesn't, people will berate her for being a jerk. If you handle things with diplomacy the first time, you have fewer messes to clean up, just saying.

I thought Kodee was over dramatic. I’d never heard of her before but i didn’t like the way she came across. But I also think that James Charles’ responses were rather unprofessional. Also, he should have addressed in his video that the red dyes are known to cause irritation, and that’s also why they’re not fda approved, but it may well be that Morphe didn’t tell him that. A warning on a video isn’t enough though, because that’s assuming that the only people who buy the palette have watched the whole of his reveal video. There will be a lot of people, especially in physical stores, buying the palette based on the range of colours, not caring about who James is. I really don’t think the little eye symbols are sufficient enough as a warning. It should say something along the lines of: the shades aren’t approved by the fda for use around the immediate eye area as they contain ingredients that may cause eye irritation and/or staining of the delicate skin.
@katherine41646 жыл бұрын
There definitely should have been a warning. I think James did not handle the concern in a professional business manner. I have sensitive skin and I had no clue that certain shades are not eye safe. After the video hit the web I searched Morphe and Ulta's website, I couldn't find anywhere stating that they are not eye safe. With all the KZbin reviews and website reviews I thought this was a eyeshadow palette. I am glad I wasn't able to order it with me having sensitive skin. I am sure with James audience being younger that they probably were not aware that they are not eye safe being I am 38 and had no clue.

Unpopular opinion: does the packaging of most makeup have a warning, yes... however, have you looked at where that warning is placed? If you're not someone familiar with makeup and using makeup as a lot of us in the comments are, it's very easy to overlook that warning. Was she extra? Hell yeah, but I do get it. Hives on your eyes is scary and can be painful. At the end of the day, she is a paying customer and his response was highly unprofessional. Part of your brand is professionalism, and james didn't use that. Most of us are lucky in that we don't have reactions to this, but realistically, it is scary that these palettes basically contain ingredients not safe for the eye. Finally, most of us are not doing spot tests. We're excited and we want to get into the palette and we don't think about it. Jmo

Kim’s Gone The ingredients are listed on the box... also the warning not to use it on the eyes. James made a video to promote the palette, not read the ingredient list. She could have easily returned it if she didn’t like the product after she read it.

@@miaomiaou_ however, as noted in the video, other influencers verbally have a warning about the issue, jeffree and manny... and the real reason they did this was not just legality, it was also to avoid the very thing that's happening to james right now. Again, i'm not defending her screaming and hyperbole. I'm simply saying, he seems to be the only one who really didn't go over pressed pigments and the potential danger. It's not so much the ingredient list, because you can very well not be allergic to an ingredient, but be allergic to a combination of the ingredients and the list wouldn't tell you what was combined with what, as that is proprietary information. Her whole thing is rants and she was upset. I don't agree with all the screaming and the way she went about it, but I am most disappointed in how james handled it. A simple i'm sorry you had this reaction would've sufficed, rather than throwing shade.

Oh my god, my best friend is an aspiring makeup artist so she does a lot of makeup looks and she has a morphe pallet (not James’s) and she says some of the pigments stain her eyes and she literally doesn’t care, it fades anyways, but I just can’t imagine if her or every person in the world that has been stained by a morphe pallet was this annoying and screamed at the Internet.

ITS PRINTED ON THE DAMN BOX!!!! There is an eye symbol with a line through it. This girl is clearly disturbed and has a vendetta with James. I have several red, pink and purple and some stain and some do not. It’s a risk we take when we put things on our skin. I am eczema prone and very sensitive but I look forward to getting my hands on James’s palette!!!!

not that this an excuse, but since this is james' first launch, you kinda have to expect for him to neglect certain things. i don't think he did this intentionally, it coudlve jsut slipped his mind or just assumed that everyone knew that pressed pigments can stain your skin. for example j* has been in the makeup industry for like what, 11 years give or take? so obviously he knows the drill. not every consumer is going to want to read every single ingredient in the product, but certain ones should definitely be mentioned. however, i do believe that if you know that you has sensitive skin or even care about what goes on your skin, then you SHOULD do research on the product. I felt it rly unnecessary for koderants to SCREAM at the camera and blame james, when really she should be addressing the issue with morphe. she also should have done her research before she went to twitter and acted like she knows everything. and james should have asked her questions about it instead of reacting the way he did. both her and james could have handled things differently.
@BluCharmander6 жыл бұрын
Yeah well he does have other influencers to take example from. For me that's not an excuse. He isn't our best friend. He isn't just some random person selling makeup. He's been in this industry for years. He's used so much different kinds of makeup. Probably considers himself pretty advanced. Maybe an expert. He knew about the issues with certain pigments. He should have mentioned it. Manny was new to selling pallets too and he took example from Jeffree. All it takes is 20 sec. "Hey these pigments can irritate your skin." I also don't like how vague the warning was on the back of the pallet. A picture of an eye? Really? You think a 13 year old girl who bought that pallet or hell, a 23 year old would know? Some people just don't know. Yeah people should do their research but they're buying that pallet for the hype.

Sam I Am i agree mostly, however i wouldn’t say “years” as compared to many other beauty influencers. he’s only been in the industry for 3 years as a big influencer and having makeup be his career. he still has a lot of learning to do.

Kori Wright that is an excuse and not good enough imo. Morphe has been around for years, that’s why he did a collab so people with expertise could guide him through the process

@@barbiekay5464 i didnt say he didnt know sweetie :) when i say "slipped his mind" i mean he probably did think to mention it in his reveal video.

They actually both in the wrong. I love James but he should've "Killed her with kindness" and be professional about it and I understand he was so excited about it on the reveal but he should've warned about what's in it and what kind of side effects will happen. And for her everyone's skin is different, if it irritated you then just don't use it instead of going on a rant, I feel like she should've blame Morphe because he's kinda the person to make sure every color in the pallet is good. I'm probably wrong but idk.

Oh my god, I just realised what's been causing my allergies all along... like I only ever got allergic reactions (SEVERE allergic reactions) from makeup products from companies that were vegan. All that 'pressed pigment' bullshit! Mind = blown.

There are allergies on every possible thing on planet earth, the reactions some people get could be mild or deadly. Yes, it sucks having an allergy to something you love, trust me, I get it, but at the end of the day it does not matter. Just because someone ate peanut butter for the first time in there life and found out there allergic to peanuts, does not mean you should make peanut butter companies apologize. Its life, you find out your allergic that's awesome! now you know what to stay away from so it won't happen again.

I think she was being dramatic in her video, just dramatic and immature overall. However Jeffree Star and Manny MUA said in their videos that the synthetic red dyes can stain skin. They also included a verbal warning on their packaging explaining this. James Charles did not state any of this in his videos about his palette. Morphe only included a tiny eye with a dash through it next to the ingredients on the back. But also if this girl has such sensitive skin, she has apparently said she does. Then it’s also her responsibility to know what ingredients will cause her skin irritation. So I think James Charles and Morphe could have done better. But at the same time I don’t really blame James for snapping at this chick. But I guess if you want to avoid this type of scandal, whether the plaintiff is annoying or not, you should just be totally transparent.

This was actually educational. I finally know why I can't use some of the morphe shadows ( pinks, reds, purples). And also kind of disappointing since I know I won't be getting this palette :((

I’ve used “Skip” several times. I am very pale, and have generally sensitive skin. The shadow did stain my eyes, but a very light coverage concealer fixed it right up. The only shade I’ve had sever staining on is one of the purples which I used yesterday. The stain is pretty much gone now. If your thinking about buying the palette, I think you should go for it!

Okay, now that I've watched it I'm going to comment on it. I think she's an overdramatic liar. I get that she's mad that she got stained, but hives? Bitch where? And her dramatic rant was overdramatic. Sure, he could have put a better warning on there, but oh my God. And at the end, her hive video is terrible. Who pulls at their eye and messes with it and then says "my hives hurt so bad"
