FINALLY, it has been way too long since the last time xu xin beat fan zhendong. And it wasn't easy for xu xin. The backhand is the key all along to xu xin's improvement. Ever since he improved his RPB, he has perform extremely well. However sad for FZD as he has yet to reach a final on the world tour this year despite beating MA Long

Despite Fan ZD losing, he is still the best prospect for China in the coming years. His losing experience will make him a better player IMO. Ma Long & Xu Xin is already a legend.

Xu xin's back hand has definitely improved and his close table game. His ball placement in this match is incredible as well. However this match is ultimately about stamina. Both players play three positions in this tournament and that can be extremely exhausted. Xu xin doesn't even look like he is tired at all and that's why he's the freaking cloud walker. This beast can dance all day

Definitely not the FZD that I used to know. I saw him touching his right arm or elbow too at least twice. Otherwise, I have confidence that he would beat XX. But I have to admit that XX was in good shape.

For Fan Zhendong, this match against Xu Xin is so much different than against Ma Long ! Xu Xin is a chess player, mildly like Gauzy.

I think the improvement in Xu Xin backarm play gave him this championship. Its the only part of his game that was really missing.

XX got a faster pace compare to previous single matches, I think he heard all kind of comments on how he is perfect in double but not in single. Both are great but FZD's strategy doesn't work on the faster cloudwalker. A great final-like match, can't believe there would be a even exciting match in this championship, period.

The Cloudwalker at his best! Not sure if Fan hurt his right elbow and let's hope not. Both players are still dealing with this new ITTF ball by trying new strategies. Hitting much earlier, creating new angles and hitting on the open sides. Xu is just dealing a bit better. He did more with varying spins so big hitters like Fan could not teeing up and use the speed/spin against him right away. No one got an upper hand and ran with a hot streak, but that was expected between two of the best in the Table Tennis today. Let's hope to see more of this so not one player is dominating every tournament.

Again penholders aren't going out of the TT world. It's just it too hard for perfection and control but in proper and intense training IT WILL RETAIN THE LEGACY OF PENHOLDERS... Hard to believe FZD had that many mistakes to lose against XX when he was so solid against ML Still am a firm believer of the CNT dictating their players on who wins Compare games 4 and 5: FZD outclasses XX game 4 then dumping points to give him a lead on game 5 (a little drama in the end of game 5 to make it seem clutch) WHY? Backhand is still Xu Xin ‘s underbelly that Fan Zhendong purposely attacked a lot with success, but Fan had too many errors himself.

Honestly, it looks as if Fan Zhendong was scared of Xu Xin's forehands in this match. He looks to be unaccustomed to Xu's spins, often making unforced errors. While he was confident in the first set, he quickly lost that confidence in the second set after trailing far behind. He managed to take sets decisively following that, but it appeared that he was somewhat confused and a bit lost. Ultimately, I think his mentality led to his lost here, as he felt the pressure to win, but was unable to capitalize on his own tempo. Xu was able to take advantage of Fan's confusion and play to his own tempo. Whereas Fan's number one obstacle was Ma Long in the past, now, other competitors are hungry to surpass him. In a situation where he is facing challenges, he often seems to get frustrated or disappointed in himself for being in that situation. And once he is in that situation, it's hard for him to adjust and get a win. This was seen time and time again, such as his match against Hugo Calderano in the Protours Grand Finals and his match against Liang Jingkun in the WTTC 2019. I think it's not a matter of skills at this point, rather a combination of crumbling pressure to perform, relatively weak mentality, and the fear of losing his current position as one of the best. I hope he can regain his confidence and motivation so that he can join the likes of Ma Long and Zhang Jike as a grand slam champion! With that being said, great job to Xu Xin for his win! I hope he can maintain a high level of play and win some major titles!

It's nice to see Xu Xin making points with his backhand against even the likes of Fan. He has made real progress. On the other hand, I think Fan is slightly injured. No offense to Xu Xin, but Fan is overall a better player.

I think FZD was defeated because of slower ball movement of xu xin. FZD's game doesn't fit to xu xin. FZD failed to adjust his game by staying close to the table and slowing his timing

Yeah it was his prime time I would say. But the new ball nerfed his playstyle pretty hard, specially his forehand. It's much easier to receive now.
