1928 ---- 2000 Well the world has lost an incredible actor and a symbol for the consummate English gentleman. He is someone with amazing character, charm and style. I wish I knew him , he was probably hilarious off camera. As sherlock Holmes's brother he was the genius I wish I was and in the devil rides out he was pure gold. The world has lost a true treasure, and there will never be another . Thank you Charles for showing us how its done.

In the 90s, I used to serve Mr. Gray at the counter of a popular food hall department store in London. “Half a pound of Suffolk streaky, no ticket, and no carrier, I choose not to wander Knightsbridge as a walking billboard.”

This is my favourite actress being average but I'm biased. I have always been in love with her.Maggie Smith is our greatest actress with Judi Dench a very close second and Joan Plowright an even closer third. I've had the distinction of acing with the latter two but what would I have not given for working with Maggie !

Some people say Queen Elizabeth I or Queen Victoria are England's greatest queens. Wrong. Charles Gray was England's greatest queen.

Ah, I thought I recognized the words of Bernard Shaw in these characters. A man full of eloquent boyish mischief, but never any boyish joy. It's why Shakespeare will live on, whilst your works Bernie only live on as musicals. I mean past the bluster, like all champagne socialists, only a very silly infantile sentimentality remains, meant for music halls. Still his words perfectly fit the hammy charm of Charles Gray and the cool playfulness of Maggie Smith.
