I just saw this today 9/30/24 and had no idea anyone had done an evaluation on my draw 2 years ago. I enjoyed your evaluation of my draw very much SaintAndrewsTV. You understood it very well. Just a couple of things though. You need to place your thumb pointing totally forward and over the hammer and recoil shield which prevents the hammer from being pushed open as you draw and also aids in pulling the revolver out of the holster since you are putting pressure on the hammer and recoil shield with your thumb and putting pressure on the front of the trigger guard with your middle finger, while you also put pressure against the bottom of the trigger guard with your trigger finger. All of which basically securely holds the revolver tightly between your thumb and your middle finger and your trigger finger. This gives you a more secure three points of hold while drawing. Less chance of dropping the revolver. Also as soon as you clear leather and spin the gun into firing position, your thumb having been facing forward is now instantly ready to flick downward to cock the hammer (every split second counts). Thanks for your review I appreciate it very much and am honored. I subscribed to your channel also.

That is really very cool! You and Bill Akins both make this look so easy. While growing up I would spend probably too much time gun-spinning. I loved doing it and actually got pretty good at it, but only much later did I realise that spinning what were essentially toy guns (even metal ones) is really nothing like spinning the real thing. So I recently got myself a Uberti 1873 Colt replica with Army grips and 5.5" barrel that I've absolutely have fallen in love with. The only problem is that I'm having to completely "relearn" how to spin properly. These guns are heavy! I think I'd better start with baby steps, cheers!
@SaintAndrewTV Жыл бұрын
Well thank you very much for the kind words my friend! And keep working at it! Spinning a real one or a properly weighted replica is exhausting! That’s a whole lot of steel taking up very little space! Haha

Lee Van Cleef used that in " The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly"
@BillAkinsProduction3 ай бұрын
No, Lee Van Cleef did not flip and spin draw directly from the holster. No one has until I invented and developed it. I was technical advisor to the actor named Brahm and taught him to do it for the award winning spaghetti western short film he was in entitled: "Shoot in any direction and you'll hit a bastard". But prior to that, no one else has flip spin drawn directly from the holster on film.

I do a similar one but the holster is in a cross draw position (on the front left side of the hip) and draw with my left hand using my index to pull the revolver out.
@johnbeck3270 Жыл бұрын
The draw I find interesting is in Clint Eastwood’s The Outlaw Jose Wales. He is faced with two very skanky mountain men in a trading post.The pistol grips are in an inverted position, the pistols then roll over, reverse into the firing position. I have heard also of of a “border roll” and a “border switch”, the way I understand this it involves moving the “off hand” loaded gun to the shooter’s “favored” hand, and the empty gun to the shooter’s “off” hand. This seems to be quite a feat to me, juggling two firearms in such a manner.
@BillAkinsProduction3 ай бұрын
But Josey didn't draw, flip and spin them from the holster. He did the Curley Bill spin with them AFTER he slowly drew them. Also that footage of him flipping them after they were out of their holsters was speeded up, because those Colt Whitneyville Walkers have a 9 inch barrel and weigh about 5 lbs each and you cannot spin them that rapidly as Eastwood did without the cheat of speeding up the film. You are also describing "the border shuffle", where if you are right handed and your right hand gun is empty and you have another gun in your left hand but want it in your right hand, you flip the right hand gun up into the air and quickly switch the left hand gun into your right hand and then catch the gun from the air by the grip in your left hand. Takes some practice doing that juggle (because that's what it is) and I suggest doing that and my special draw from the holster over a bed because you WILL drop the gun learning to do both, trust me, I did learning them both. After repeated practice you will develop what is called "known muscle memory", where you do it so much it almost becomes automatic and your muscles are used to it as is your timing. Spinning/twirling is good for strengthening the fingers and hands. But again, do it over the bed until you get really practiced with it, and even then, still practice over the bed unless you want your gun dinged up from dropping.

@BillAkinsProduction3 ай бұрын
Good thinking. My longer barrels of my 1860's has more weight than shorter barrels and helps add inertia to when I flip and spin the gun into firing position. It's actually easier to do my draw with my long barrel 1860's than it is with my 4 & 1/2" barreled Uberti 1872 Colts.

@BillAkinsProduction3 ай бұрын
No Remy-de8kl. They are my Pietta .44 cal 1860 nickel plated ones that originally came with gold plated, fluted cylinders. I replaced them with fluted stainless .44 replacement cylinders from Cabelas, that I don't think Cabelas carries anymore. I replaced my gold plated Pietta factory fluted cylinders with the Cabelas stainless fluted cylinders because firing was flaking the gold off my factory fluted gold plated Pietta cylinders. Trust me, look closely at them, they are 1860's not the smaller and lighter and smaller caliber 1862 police models.

In international law, an isolated member of the armed forces or members of a formation who surrender are considered hors de combat and must not be made the object of attack. Feigning surrender is an act of perfidy and is therefore forbidden. In the context of war, perfidy is a form of deception in which one side promises to act in good faith (such as by raising a flag of truce) with the intention of breaking that promise once the unsuspecting enemy is exposed (such as by coming out of cover to take the "surrendering" prisoners into custody). Perfidy constitutes a breach of the laws of war and so is a war crime, as it degrades the protections and mutual restraints developed in the interest of all parties, combatants and civilians. -Wikipeda

I don't know a whole lot about drawing guns but this doesn't seem too practical. Is this just for show or is there actually a practical reason for this?
@SaintAndrewTV Жыл бұрын
Just for show. It’s had no practicality to it. Just in good fun as long as you’re safe.
@BillAkinsProduction3 ай бұрын
The practicality is that I can draw an 8 inch barrel with rammer, heavy Colt 1860 and cock and fire faster this way than someone else can drawing the same gun either butt rearward or butt forward conventional style. So if you're ever on the streets of Tombstone and you have an 1860 Colt and your opponent has the same gun, you will outdraw them. So yes today it is for show, but had it been back in those times, I could have outdrawn wild Bill Hickock since he did the conventional butt forward cavalry draw and my draw technique is faster.

For as many people that needed up going west..at one point..a lot of people left the jumping off point in Kansas City or St.Joe, Missouri..on their way to California..with most seeing good grazing land or fertile ground for plowing..with a good team to scratch out a living..but for the tens of thousands that ended up out there, some firing of guns happened, but few actual gunfights..Wyatt would usually just crack them over the head and haul them off to a cell..The Johnson County War..corruption and greed..glorified..the west was wild because most places had no laws or law enforcement..Most judges were circuit judges who might show up every few months..no jails…throw them in a storage shed..til the judge happened by..it was not romanticized..life itself was pretty boring day to day..no one went looking for a gunfight..
