I think this is where manufacturers have done an amazing job at making superbikes more accessible. Electronic have transformed the category in my opinion. I'm less hesitant to recommend a new superbike to a a new rider then I was 10 to 15 years ago because electronics have really made them much much easier to ride. Fueling has gotten better, traction control is insane now, and ABS has gotten better. I know for a long time all the fast guys on superbikes complained that ABS was a waste and they could stop faster (I may or may not have been one of them). Well all that noise has gone away. ABS systems are great now. I think the only assessment that matters as to whether or not a person is ready for a superbike is mentality. If you're a bit reckless a superbike will humble you really quickly.

totally agree with your comments on how to ride a Pani, I had a 1299 and the best way to describe it is to pretend that your are riding a front wheel only, forget about the rear. You need to own the front but the weird thing is the more you push the better it gets. They are not called pain-igalies for no reason though, you need to set them up for your weight as they are so stiff out of the factory.

I missed your posts welcome back! Still have my 1199s too. Agree with everything you said. Wish I never sold my 998 I had for 13 years to be honest that rode nicer that my Panigale. The SV650 is a great starter bike I owned the first generation 1999 model with the half fairing. I was already a seasoned rider at that point so grew out of it quickly but it was a great bike regardless. Back to the older generation V twin Ducatis they all require commitment to handle them properly that’s for sure and I wouldn’t recommend to any novices. In my day in England we had to start on a 250
@FancyAnimal Жыл бұрын
998 is a gem for sure...that whole era was great. I'm probably going to get a 2009-2013 1100 Monster....the blend the best of new and old. Not sure I'd have the patience with those damn timing belts. Hard enough these days motivating myself to change the oil. What kind of miles are on the 1199?
@Topendz Жыл бұрын
@@FancyAnimal my biggest regret selling my 998. Best bike ever owned and I put so much into it to make it perfect. Oh well. Honestly don’t have a lot of mileage on the 1199s. Lost touch with all my riding friends and don’t get to ride as much as I use too. Pretty much ride solo these days. The riding season here in Eastern Canada is pretty short April to October at best. Less than 10k on the bike. There’s a Ducati 851 for sale near me that I was thinking of but not in budget right now. I sold my 998 to a friend who I’ve been begging for him to sell it back to me but his not budging. The sad thing is he doesn’t ride it at all and it’s just sitting there such a waste. I put about 60k on that bike before I sold it was such a joy to ride. I will never sell the 1199 though learn my lesson just save up for another ride. Not sure if the air filter contributes to this or a combination of all three but I think the bike is as good as it’s gonna get now. I’m content. Was left stranded at the end of the ride due to a poorly seated fuel injector but that was most likely “me” error after replacing the air filter

First bike should always be a used bike. Worry about increasing your skills rather than scratching up your new ride. Even people who say they don't worry about that 100% worry about that LOL. I got a 90 VTR 250 in 93. The first time I ever road a motorcycle was on that bike. I spent the next year and a half seeing just how far I could push that thing. It pushed back a few times. Little sanding and white paint. Good enough back on the road. Got a CBR900RR brand spanking new after that. Yep. I would have been dead had that been my first bike. Daily rider since 2010. Duc 900ssie, 996 and a KTM990adv when I want to attack and bearhug unsuspecting bushes at speed. I could swear I had a bike under me a second ago. Some people might be able to control themselves with a brand new space and time bender but most WILL push it before they are ready. Traction control has my back. Then you take it out of rain mode and the world goes by all blurry you hit that turn and run out of talent. There is NO WAY I would have been able to control myself had I tossed a leg over a propper machine on day one. Just like NOS you turn it up a little more each time. Ran good last time. She can take some. Rinse repeat until you find yourself talking about how she couldn't take anymore one day and you blow all the welds on your intake and for some reason your passenger floorboard breaks off because reasons.. Wait. I think that was a movie... That's right. I put a piston in low earth orbit. If you have self control and the cash then by all means buy something faster than 90% of the cars on the road. Otherwise buy used and invest the cash you would have spent on a brand new bike. After a year and nowhere to go performance wise on your bike go buy your dream bike and spend the gains you made on gear and cams for your ride.

@FancyAnimalАй бұрын
I highly recommend buying a 1299 over the V2. The prices aren't that different and both bikes are just as easy to ride....the 1299 is actually lighter. However, the 1299 in the last year with slide control etc etc is so much more bike and something you can own for a lifetime without taming. The V2 becomes underwhelming very quickly.
