@FandersonUfo8 ай бұрын
in 1969 television producers were still learning what looked best on the new colour sets - purple is a more dramatic choice than silver for sure - I know I would deal with a lot less chat about silver wigs than I get about the purple wigs - I wish they had gone with silver - it would make the show easier to accept for a modern audience who have somehow never seen a woman with purple hair in the year of our Lord 2024 - 🛸✨

With all the sophisticated computers you would think that they would not have to be giving each other all these numbers. Somehow sprinklings a bunch of long numbers into the conversation makes it sound more scientific. They could at least throw in a few cotans. Vectors, thetas and alphas. With all the sophisticated aliens out there, their weapons are still projectiles that have to be aimed and can't go through a tree.
@FandersonUfo10 ай бұрын
a general audience in 1970 would not have GPS guided munitions as their tech standard - a lot of the Apollo control room chatter which I remember at the time was dominated by the exchange of long series of random numbers and jargon - for a general TV audience the combat rules in the SHADO universe are simple and easy to understand - this is long before the internet and Bluetooth enabled smart phones tablets etc too of course - 🛸✨

Tape drives was the coolest optic of computers in the 1960s....except for the fake light show using Christmas lights. Punch cards sorters and readers were also "exciting" as was reading the ticker tape readouts. Most shows didn't have or show CRTs directly as they didn't photo well. Required bluescreening as done in Star Trek.

I see reel to reel tape units spinning but no tape media in between them ??? Not even sure why they are using tape based secondary storage devices when magnetic disk packs were available in the 80s, for mainframe and mini systems, that would be 1000x faster for I/O and not as error prone. Microcomputers were available in 1980, although not nearly ready or acceptable for use in commercial applications, mainly academic with UNIX operating systems and early incantations of DOS and CPM, but storage not nearly near that of mainframe and mini systems such as IBM 360, 3090, DEC/VAX VMS and Motorola IV Phase systems. Apple was making great strides during this era. Microsoft only started becoming available in the mid-late 1980s as well as Novell in the mid late 80s in the operating system front, and IBM PS/2 Microchannel PC series.
