And in this case, they weren't even referencing something that had been done in a previous movie, but rather the actual production of the movie (though which I never heard about til recently). That Chris Evans REALLY didn't like the original Captain America outfit, and there was some ribbing that went on around the set about it how it fit him in the first Avengers. Though even once done watching Winter Soldier, it hadn't even occurred to me his outfit had changed from Avengers until someone pointed it out to me.

I really enjoyed the change to the Skrulls because being one of two massive militaristic species of aliens locked into an eternal war is just boring. This way they can add some depth to the conflict and due to the Skrulls' powerset, they can still dismantle a country's leadership with a small handful of radicals. I also liked that Fury uses the none event that took his eye to motivate people as he did with Coulson's death. He uses lies and half-truths to motivate and manipulate, it's kinda his whole deal.
@emilyfiallos4900
@emilyfiallos4900 5 жыл бұрын
I agree! The thing with Fury is that outside of Captain Marvel, he's depicted as this epic badass. The fact that Goose was the one to take his eye and that he lies about it to compensate for it not being a cool enough story humanizes him. It adds more dimensions to his character than just being THE Nick Fury.

I actually really connected with this movie and the main character. With and without amnesia (and I'm an adult white male). The whole 'people sortof-but-not-really believing in you' thing and calling you "'too emotional' because it's what they choose to believe and belief is self-reinforcing" is just as applicable for men as women. But my sister also really loved it, so maybe that's more reflective of our parental situation and people who grew up in different environment might disagree.

10:55 - Then I guess my reading, along with many people I know, was charitable? I'm someone who doesn't think that it's necessary for characters to constantly spell out their internal emotions on their face. And in the case of Carol's journey, the whole point of her arc is that she has been trained and beaten into becoming stoic. In those clips, there are clearly tears in her eyes, because she's trying to control her emotions, otherwise she will be seen as weak and inferior. That's what the Kree have made her think. Which is why when she finally has her emotional breakdown in front of Maria ("I don't even know who I am!"), it's all the more satisfying and heartfelt. She finally has her feelings of rage, frustration and fear acknowledged by someone, as opposed to being to told to not let them out the way Yon Rogg does. I'm genuinely surprised people didn't see this. Like, even Steve Rogers has similar moments, where he suppresses his emotions because he has a job to do. To each their own I guess. I loved this movie.

I'll die on the hill that is Fury's eye...he clearly lies about how he lost it! Coulson questions his made up story about losing it while fighting Kree in CM...we also know he has a flare for theatrics when he used Coulson's cards in the Avengers to make a point...so him saying last time he trusted someone he lost an eye could have been him being dramatic again...I think it works perfectly!

This is the first time I've felt genuinely sad for the people who only watch the trailer. They missed out on so much comedy gold.

I am slightly upset that he's named after a fictional NAVY pilot's callsign - should have called him Yeager, since that's an Anglicization of jager and likely the most famous AF pilot; especially after 1983(!) and The Right Stuff.

Neither did I. Apparently the algorithm decided that the show I watch every single week right after the other show I watch every single week (that they did send me a notification for) wasn't something I wanted to see.
