I have a confession to make. I created a 157,000+ word fan fic with 72 chapters. It is not completed. I've abandoned it 2 years ago. Once in a blue moon, I get a comment by someone asking me to please finish it. However, those moments I find myself staring at the sunset, debating to myself, whether or not I want to go back into that frantic haze. Typing away as if my life depends on it. Somehow drawing 103 images and creating 27 GIFs for the fic. To this day, I don't know how I accomplished that. It was as if a call from the void compelled me to do it. Suddenly, one day that siren stopped calling my name. And then I abandoned the fic.

@@soysaucesuki1187 It's not even for a popular show, move, or book. I feel like that makes it more embarrassing to confess the name of the fic. I doubt it would pique your interest. However, to bring validation to my confession, googling "Milo Murphy's Law Untold Stories Collection" or searching that on Archive of Our Own will bring up the fic. Warning: It's unfinished, it's gay, and it's rated M due to grim and depressing stuff tackled in the fic. The main thing I'm proud of for that fic is, it helped me get better at writing, and, over time, you can actually see me getting better at drawing. If you check the two chapters that says "NEW" next to them (Even though they are not new, they're 2 years old), they have animated, fully colored, GIFs in them.

As a fanfic reader, fanfics taught me more English than what was taught in school. Also, literature is so much more diverse in English in terms of themes and ideas from my home country's writings, my hate for reading evaporated once I seriously got into it. Fanfics genuinely changed my life for the better in so many areas of my life, I'm forever grateful for bored 12 year old me googling fanart one day and discovering fanfics for the first time. I wish I could go back in time just to watch it happen from an outsider perspective after all these years.

one of my main motivators for becoming fluent in english as a teenager was when it became too hard to find fanfics written in french. i knew i'd have a much easier time finding stuff for my favorite fandoms if i knew english, so i forced myself to learn it. the other main reason was bc it was also easier to find anime with english subtitles than french subtitles. i still find it kind of funny that i probably wouldn't be bilingual now if it wasn't for that HAHA

I got one story where the main plot is a slice of life story, but because of the power and nature of the main character there is a background plot of trying to figure out who she is with current theories including: a descendent of Russian Nobility, a fey, a secret plot by the followers of a dark wizard to revitalize the goals of the dark wizard, a top secret weapon that has been given freedom. None of which is mutually exclusive and all of which is wrong. Got another story that is basically just another telling of the Clone Wars… except I am simultaneously making things better and worse. Better because the main character is actually making the Jedi into competent generals. Worse because in canon the CIS was explicitly being held back from their full potential to keep the war going as long as necessary. If you want to find my work, I am Half_Baked_Cat online. All those "deleted fanfics" tiktoks just reminded me that the Hungarian fandoms had a website full of amazing fics (like, incredibly good Naruto, KnB, Tokio Hotel, D. Gray Man ones) and then the site crashed and every fic that didn't exist on the computer of the author just disappeared with no way of getting them back 😭 A facebook group was created and there's another fanfic website but it still can't replace the vibe of that one site and all those fics...

George Devailer, god I was devasted when the whole account was deleted thankfully I saved one of the fics. Look I know that Hetalia has a bad reputation due to toxic fans (tbh every fandom has it), but if you find the good fics those hit hard. I encountered one fic where I am simultaneously learning some part of history and learning how to read Old english. Idk why, but the author wrote a 100,000+ words fic written Old english throughout the whole fic, from its dialouge to its description. I'm honestly so sad I can't find it anymore. Fics that uses the fact tgat they are pretty much immortal are also pretty devastating. Himaruya wrote hetalia as a satire comedy mainly, but those small doses of angst sprinkled here and there is what making me stay as a fan. I'm pretty sure angst is what keeps the fandom going other than ships and history.

My worse experience was a fanfiction that was incredible, like 5,000+ words a chapter - nearing 40 chapters. Nearly finished. Slow burn, enemies to lovers that was so true to the characters. It was wildly popular and read, it had fanart and everything. Then, people who disliked how popular it was bullied the author off the internet. It was deleted. I hope they are okay. We spoke in comments sometimes, and they seemed really nice. I’ve seen people on reddit asking for ways to get it available to them again, because it was just that loved.

The We'll Meet Again tiktok simultaneously made me squeal of joy and suckerpunched me back to 2013 in a sec. The Veraverse & anything from George DeValier had me by the throat for years back in the day (and admittedly, still does). They literally shaped the taste and standards in fanfiction for a generation of the Hetalia fandom, I think. I still know most of Vera Lynn's songs by heart because of those fics and will still catch myself distractedly humming them sometimes. I have never been that excited or nervous for a plot, nor cried so hard for angst/ tragedies befallen to any characters as I did while reading We'll Meet Again, Bésame Mucho and Lily of the Lamplight (or when the rest of them stopped being published). They were some of the first fics I read and the reason why I'm fond of Hetalia to this day. I reallly hope the author didn't stop writting; their stories were amazing!

Personally I feel like writing fanfiction, while not exactly "easier" than writing original texts wholesale, is a lot more flexible, more experimental, and there are fewer expectations. A novel has to do a lot of work to normalize itself and you may have a lot of expectations for what it says. A fanfiction is often just answering a question, "what would happen if it went like this?" and leaving the characters to hash it out. Many novels are paid entry too, whereas fanfiction is always free and is already partially endorsed by the source material's existence.

I am an author with a Sailor Moon fic that's been on hiatus for four years now. I get sucked into new fandoms and then focus on writing and updating stories for them, all while thinking "I should finish that chapter 30 WIP." 3:00 is why I try to only find canon ships to read shipfics of tbh. This whole narrative in my mind where they're meeting again for the first time kinda grates on me after a while.

I don’t read fanfiction, but, I do write fanfiction. I don’t often write about canon characters/events, I like to make my own stuff up (so long as it could plausibly happen in whatever world I choose). I do not publish my stuff anywhere. It’s for my purposes alone.

4:53 I read a fic once where the main characters were this one guy who was the kid of a politician, his fbi agent/bodygaurd, and his nsa agent(who monitors his phone/searches),,,,, not that character A is aware of the jobs of the other two,, and they all get together,,,, it was really good of you were wondering
