As a casual (father of 2) i play singleplayer rpgs and games with good stories. I get hots from fan and hearthstone from kibler. I really enjoyed command and conquer back in the days. But always singleplayer.

As usual, Fan, you are the voice of reason. I totally stopped playing SC2 because it's too hard. Nowadays if I see an RTS, I just don't open it if I can't pause to issue orders. I'm old! I can't click with the young-ins anymore.

I remember started playing Dota Allstars 5.84C and WC3 and Frozen Throne Exp.. well,, I basically couldnt stop playing that game until i failed my high school, 😂. Back in those days, there were netcafes and local pools. If i turn back in time, i would go back that moment and play more with friends 😢

10:45 I totally agree with what you said about Fortnite :D I've started playing recently because of some friends. And I hate building stuff, also can't remember what the buttons do. But I totally get why people like it. It is the defining mechanic of the game imo.

I played pirated Starcraft 2 for campaign as a kid and I didn’t figure out how to set up command groups for some reason, didn’t have problems with that in other rts. It’s not reason but I also kinda don’t like when each small dude is separate unit, I like it more how it’s in Total war series or C&C 3 or Dawn of War where infantry units are in squads

I played dawn of war, that was my childhood. I enjoyed that but I didnt enjoy starcraft when I played it.

The fantasy aspect of DoW is much more compelling than SC (imo.)

100% agree, with the whole Fortnite building walls stuff, I tried a few games and literally got owned on a silver platter... then I just uninstall the game. RTS like SC2 I still go back from time to time and just do some casual ladder in the lowest league, I still have fun in those.

Played wc3 for the story it had and then later some custom games with friends, more of a coop guy anyway

I could reach Masters League in SC2, but it was really stressfull. Today I prefer chill games, or less demanding games.

I only played aoe2 lan with my folks. Never committed time to improvement so the best I could do is spam Teutonic knights and rush a base

The entry barrier for RTS is also high, kids play fortnite it's easy to start and play or play with a bunch of friends. LoL / dota are also simpler to play. I personally stopped playing because I was super stressed during build time and then I sucked at combat micro management and ended up spending 15mins building and 1min ruining it all :D Still, I reached 'ok-ish' diamond before I quit.

Rts games too stressful man. Fun though.

The reason why I stopped playing RTS games in multiplayer is just the lack of comeback mechanics. Like, "oh, you sent a dog in front of my barracks and now I have to spend 500 gold to get it off of there which is apparently enough money to lose me the game". Red Alert, to be clear. Like I wouldn't mind RTS games as much if the game wasn't entirely about how optimized the first 5 minutes of my matches are, and if it wasn't over from one good ability killing like 10 units putting me behind 10k.

I've stopped playing SC2 because it's not as fun as other games. It is a very hard game, but I usually stopped playing because I've filled my need for the "practice" experience. I basically had way more fun practicing the mechanics than actually fighting out the battles on the ladder because ladder strategies suck, especially in LotV. So it's not only because it's hard, but because the gameplay itself just sucks when compared to other games like HotS or my favorite game genres (1st person survivals)

I played SC SC2 and Wc3 couldn't get above plat. I mostly enjoyed the story and never super got into competitive. Now that I'm older I can't do that APM required. But I'm down for a nice campaign.

If you are a casual you will get rolled in any game that has any skill ceiling to speak of. That's why they have different leagues in real sports, and lebron does not go to middle school to shit on 6th graders in Basketball. Alas not the case in the competitive videogames.

RTS will not be as popular as team games. If you sucks, you sucks in RTS. Unlike team games, where you can blame your teammates even when you sucks.
