I will also say that if you do add a 3rd pickup, you should consider using the 6-way switching system (its an aftermarket addition) as it allows all combinations of the 3 pickups, including all on.

James- A few interesting parts of the Dingwall Version of the Fanned frets is Sheldon chose fret7 as the parallel fret in which the fanned goes either direction. Other builders choose a different parallel starting point and the parallel fret dictates how steep the fanning will occur. Next, the pickups are a spilt P-type set of magnets even thou they reside in a soapbar case. My experience with the fanned fret is the speaking length of each string is better represented and this turns into evenness of tone and tension across all the strings. It also helps if you tune down (like drop B, or BEAD) as your low B absolutely speaks clearly across the entire string.

I have a Dingwall NG3 and i must say: go fanned ONLY if you need a 5 strings. The lowB is amazing, but you don't really need a fanned 4 strings even tho there is a difference is not THAT big. On the other hand IT IS that big on a 5 strings.
