To get Tyrant in cannon mode to point upwards, don't peg the purple strut with the wheel on in. If you move out the front of his feet you can tuck the purple peg inbetween them. You can get at least 20° of upness!

I really like the copper finish on the cannon of the DX9 one. It looks more premium and much better than the orange or clear ones FT's has. I'm getting my Sovereign soon, and painting one of the cannons like that is the first thing I intend to do.

I like DX9 cannon mode better. The feet on DX9 don't bother me. I like FansToys bot mode, but don't like the transformation. I may wait and see if another 3rd Party will make him before I purchase.

My first purchase from toydojo.com was DX9's Tyrant. It was missing a finger, but your customer service was gracious enough to send a replacement. I will be picking up Sovereign as well. For the price of an e-Hobby reissue Galvatron, these are worth it. Tyrant can wield both cannons on both forearms. Can Sovereign do the same.?

After a lot of indecision, I eventually went with Tyrant, mainly because I think cannon mode is superior, and that the face-sculpt, arm cannon and overall colour are better. But you know what really put me off Sovereign? Take a look at his feet: It looks like he's wearing tap-dancing shoes. Tyrant may have claw feet, but at least he doesn't look like he's about to break into dance!

Well after obtaining DX9 Tyrant 1st I kind of liked him except for his Feet and Fingers but the Led inside the solid cannon was a nice bonus, but since I had a shipping problem with the site I had bought him I was going to cancel out his order until I was told he was in the post office sitting there for a while, and I then had ordered Sovereign once he was in Stock and I got him very quickly, so now I'm owning both of them and my basic solution is to choose one for Robot mode and the other in cannon mode, because these are NOT cheap figures as they are collectibles, so all in all they are quite the pair to behold

Thank you for helping me make my mind up, Sovereign's look blows away Tyrant in robot mode which is the most important mode to me despite the ugly backpack. Galvatron's cannon treads should be attached to the back of the arms like on Sovereign, whereas DX9 has "cleaned up" something they shouldn't have. Also a lot of die-cast and Fanstoys signature transparent pieces (see Sovereign's chest) close the deal. There's a lot to like about Tyrant, but it's Sovereign for me

I'm with you on the fans toys version his robot is spectacular it just screams galvatron. though I am a fan of DX9 I own a lot of their products I still cant help but just be mind blown with the care and effort FT put into theirs. I think they both look great. I like dx-9 head and cannon better, but really don't dig him from the knees down so I went with the FT. I'm wondering can the Dx-9 cannon peg into the FT arm? is it too small or big for that?

Been waiting ages for Sovereign. I like the cannon shape and the metallic paint on Tyrant. One major reason I held off from getting Tyrant was the leg ratchets and the A stance. Tyrant either has both legs together or really wide apart. No in between. Seems a major oversight from DX9 and surprised to not see replacements with more recent releases like the excellent Gewalt. Now just gotta wait for UK retailers to get Sovereign in stock. Last I heard was it was put back from December to January. C'mon FansToys!!

On the plus side you get to mess around with the latest FT bots months before regular folk like me! :D I do dislike the way FT tease and release prototype photos sometimes 18+ months in advance. Recently we have seen DX9 announce Mightron, out for reviews a month later and at retailers 2-3 months later. Same with their new Sixshot Hanzo. Feels like FT have got prototypes or renders of every G1 bot and just release the pictures when another company gets close to release to scupper it.

Yes that is so true. I am lucky that I get the opportunity to play around with these figures :) You know I have always wondered about what you say regarding prototypes. You are correct when you mention that FT seems to release pics on the cusp of another company releasing theirs. It makes me wonder if they are actually working on them and didn't expect anyone else to or are they doing it to get their fans (like myself lol) not jump ship? I will give them props since they were the first to release a majority of the figures they have done. Also their Skyfire and Omega Supreme look amazing!! For them to tease a titan size figure blew my mind!!!

Yeah the Omega Supreme is very ambitious, will be interesting to see how he ends up and Devastator too if the teasers are to be believed. Following the release of Quakewave and Scoria they became the go to third party. Its only been the last 12 months that other third parties have been able to bridge the gap between them and FT. Many like you will wait on FT's offering before deciding which way to go. In all fairness if I wasn't so impatient I would do the same. The other third parties hearts must sink when they get so close to release only for FT to announce something. Must hit them almost as hard as Takara announcing figures. Not blown away by Takaras Megatron. Would love to see FanToys take on him.

It's a bit of a stupid question maybe but on sovereign, can the cannon also be attached to the left arm? I'm going to pick him up shortly and I want to pose him back to back (sortish) with mp 36 and I think it will be looking better with both the cannon arms at the back of the figures.

Man I’m ready to buy one. But it’s so hard to determine even with the two availible KZbin comparisons! I’m more in favour of the DX9, just because appearance wise, it looks HEAPS better and more accurate as Cartoon Galvatron than Sovereign. The DX9 has more accurate and realistic tracks in cannon mode, where sovereign has fake tracks with a cheap looking wheel. The DX9 in cannon mode looks better at the rear and the arms/supports for the tracks look like the cartoon... where the sovereign does it totally wrong with his humanoid arms. But I dislike DX9s claw type feet and those shoulder pieces that keep moving seems like a major disaster :( As for sovereign, I do like the fact it’s said to feel more solid and quality. The feet is undoubtedly better and the metal pieces is always a plus. But damn that face is something I dislike :( So long and the short, I’m still confused and undecided :(

I did buy Tyrant at release and really enjoyed that figure. The first to market usually is not the best because competition has time to improve. The movable shoulder protrusion pieces and the feet are the only issues I have with Tyrant. Sovereign does look better but not worth another $150 or so to me. Get Tyrant in one of those Dynamic poses he is capable of making and those minor issues seem to go away. This comes from the guy that still has Apollyon and Just bought a Kronos so I dont mind being behind the times to save a buck. Thanks for the vid!

However, I'm a firm believer in the "If it makes you happy then that all that matters" words. It seems you're quite content with Tyrant, Apollyon and Kronos and that's awesome. I don't have the desire to visit many places in my life but Germany is one of the places I would love to visit! With regards to do you need both, I would say that since you already have DX9's, wait to see what Xtransbots does. I think if they were to do better than both, you'd be kicking yourself lol. However, I don't see them doing as good a job as FansToys. Their figures are solid and remind me of the G1 toys that would could possibly break a toe if dropped on your foot. OUCH!!!

Anyway in the middle west where i live. I hope some day you have the chance to come and visit Germany. You're right, I have to be patient and wait, what Xtransbots does and what Fans Toys plans for the near future. In fact we've got options to choose the best figure for the own collection. And i can't have everything because money and space won't last forever :-) I leave them in their packaging until i get my own room, so they are save for now. I went with the Dx9... the cannon on that FT is brutal on the eyes... I prefer the Dx9 head sculpt, admit not by much but I see myself liking it a little better. I like the chest and arms on the FT but the things that tipped the scale toward PASSING was the back mess in bot mode, the ugly "wtf" is that ALT mode and the duck quaking and flapping feet. if the xtransbots comes out i will be hoping for a homerun. I get that everyones opinion is valid and we have a right to like what we like and blah blah blah... but clearly the alt mode on this FT is ugly.. clearly the cannon is ugly.. clearly the back mess on bot mode... well you know.. ugly. nice chest and face. but not enough for me... lol sounds like my last date :)

It's funny how FT does certain characters better than DX-9, and visa versa. Ex: FT does the better Galvatron but DX-9 made the better Omega Supreme (Gabriel), IMO.

Cant see the real difference between the cannon modes. I mean they are essentially the same minus a couple details. Yeah the pieces come down to connect to his treands are better looking, but honestly in the cartoon multiple times his hands did become that portion. Plus the treads on robot mode on Tyrant are in the wrong place.His shoulder 'squares' are in the wrong place too. I agree on the feet and hands thing. In fact I believe tyrants whole legs dont look the part. I will get around to getting a sovereign myself. Especially after seeing Takaras new Megs, I dont believe they will pull through with a good design on Galvatron.

Very valid points. Also yes I agree about Takara. The new Megs is okay but he is FAR from perfect looking. I think they should focus on other G1 Season 1 & 2 characters before moving on to movie and later figures. But that's my opinion only.

Takara should really try to create awesome designs and fix their liabilities if they hope to step up their case. Already there are 3rd party offers out there that Takara simply cant answer within the next couple years such as: Grinder, Sovereign and Transistor to name but a few. They also make stupid mistakes. Example: All 3rd party products have fully articualted hands and yet Magnus has 2 sets of fists to hold the matrix....I mean seriously? Their greatest creation MP10, they went and completely destroyed his gun in order to introduce a useless gimmick...Which resulted in causing problematic backs (some dont peg).I mean come on Takara I love your work but you need to try... Anyway I am ranting. Sorry for that, but yeah I see them lose ground to even KOs and its sad really. As to what they should focus: I have no answer, I believe they are doing the most popular characters regardless of season but the Decepticon team needs more love. 90% of it are redecos.

100% agree... I think DX-9 wins out for the alt mode easily, but Fans Toys wins out for the Bot mode... And, since most collectors keep their figures in Bot mode, he'll likely be the top choice for the majority of us out there. For me personally, I will not... My MP collection is more focused on a modern more detailed take of the G1 cartoon which Despotron fits perfectly into; he looks great next to Soundwave, Quakewave, Gewalt, etc. I also have a big problem with the price point and the proportions of the new MP Megatron. But, honestly it really comes down to the overall lack of detail currently found in the MP mainline which just doesn't seem to match the prior aesthetics they set with likes of Optimus, Wheeljack, Star Scream, Sideswipe, Prowl, etc.

Shodaximus Good points. To me the official MP Megs seems a little plain as well. His legs look like that of Shockwave and I'm not sure I like the way his back looks. I picked up Masterpiece Shockwave but still have him sealed because I prefer Quakewave to him for my MP shelf. I think the 3rd party companies pay better attention to detail. Even though some of the 3rd party stuff is higher priced than that of the official stuff, I'm okay with it due to the quality and detail.

Had sovereign sold it prefered dx9 the face sculpt on dx9 is galvatron better proportions sovereign looked too compact chubby if you get my drift the cannon in dx9 arm looks great the tank tracks I think look better on the back on the arms they look impractical more weight to lift dx9 alt mode looks spot on.

First off, Galvatron is my all time favorite Transformer. I love him in the movie and in season three. Great character, and one of my all time favorite designs. I bought Tyrant (from you guys, actually) a year ago. The moment he came out of the box, I knew he'd be a place-holder. He's okay, but I don't like him that much. Sovereign, however, looks like the Galvatron toy that I've been waiting for since 1986 (thirty years!). He looks like he walked right out of the screen... a TF:TM Galvatron has been on my wish list for so long. And I'm not a Fans Toys fanboy (though I might become one), Sovereign will likely be the first FT product I ever buy. Sovereign looks pretty damn close to perfect. I have xTransbots Scourge and the Sweeps... I have Sovereign on pre-order, as well as Eligos. I've wanted to assemble screen accurate versions of this group for three decades and now it's finally happening. If xTransbots or Takara produce a better Masterpiece Galvatron, I will upgrade again. But topping Sovereign looks like it's going to be hard. It makes this thirty-five year-old Galvatron fanboy deliriously happy. I can't wait to own one.

Oh I am with you. I am a con guy 100% and when Megs was reformatted into Galvatron, I was ecstatic!! I was 7 years old when the 86 movie came out. I remember going to see it with my friend and his family. He was a big time Prime guy and myself Megatron. When Prime died, I wasn't too upset. I was more upset when Starscream tossed Megs out of Astrotrain. However when Unicron got a hold of him, I was the happiest boy in that theater lol. As far as you becoming a FT fanboy, I welcome you :) I have been one since Quakewave. Quakewave was the best thing at the time and then MP Shockwave came out. I think MP Shockwave is nice and all but I still prefer my Quakewave to him. Xtransbots has been making some pretty good stuff, however like you said, it will be hard for them to top FT. Takara may be the one to top FT but that is IF and when they decide to make him. Honestly it really is hard to say seeing as how the scale was always off. I think what made Cyclonus look that much taller was the fact that he was always a slender bot and also he had the longer head.

Sovereign is, by far, the best representation of Galvatron to date, period. I had Dx9 Tyrant, but the mediocre plastic quality, odd body proportions, hideous feet, and lack of paint left me seriously desiring for something better (I recently sold him). I then bought Sovereign, and was completely blown away. This is better than a Masterpiece Transformer in every sense. The build quality, paint, sculpt, diecast content, and presence are second to none. Fans Toys has been pretty stellar with each of their releases, but Sovereign is next level. Dx9 Tyrant looks and feels like a Hasbro figure when compared to this. It's an amazing looking figure, especially when standing next to MP-10, MP-36 Megatron, and MP-09 Rodimus. If you have to choose, there's no question, Sovereign is the way to go. P.S. Videos and photos don't do this figure justice. You need it in hand to admire the metallic fleck deep purple paint and to also feel the heft of the diecast (this thing is like 2 lbs, I kid you not).

I am not sure when X-transbots will release their version. I know they announced they would make him in late 2015 but that is all I know for certain. As far as the pricing, FansToys Sovereign is currently listed at $154.99 and DX-9 Tyrant is $164.99. I hope that helps. Thank you for watching.

Toy Dojo The cartoon wasn't drawn with engineering standards in mind. The scales changed all of the time. Vague cartoon episode reference accessories taking priority over good design choices breaks the evolution of the brand in general. Weapon storage was standard in the CHUG lines- MP should be no different. Most of the transformations aren't as fun either. Plus MP10 pointed to a newer standard similar to the Human Alliance toy line, but no follow through w other figures. Ultimately, I'd prefer the human scale to a G1 cartoon scale because it makes a little more sense. G1 Cartoon has just got to be the WORST place to source designs and scales since it was not drawn with either in mind. It's like building a car from a 5 year old's drawing of a car.

Great and valid points. I too find the accessories that come from an insignificant part of the cartoon to be a waste. Most of the time, the accessories will stay in the box for a lot of collectors. At least that is where my extras stay. I also like your point of how in the chug line, they made it a priority to have the weapons store in both modes. With my FT Dinos, I like to keep them in dino mode and of course there is no way to store the weapons so they stay underneath each dino on my shelf. The only exception is Soar because he comes with that display base they can hold his weapons. I think sometimes they over engineer some of the figures when they really don't need to be. I'm not feeling either one of these. Fans Toys hasn't impressed me all that much since Scoria, tbh, and FT really lost my fan-approval after what they done with that aftermarket Shockwave - Quakeblast. I did not appreciate FT being a hypocrite exercising their "power" for doing what they do - stealing others' ideas - huh huh FT? You don't like someone stealing your idea? Awe, cry me a river: that is what your entire company has been based on doing, you hypocrites! I no longer care to support FT after that. Plus, I like official, they always wow me. 3rd party, maybe it's in my head but, I am always underwhelmed by them. They don't have the "life" or flare of the official; they tend to be blocky and cheap looking but official looks like it jumped out of the cartoon. And these 3rd parties are BS anyway - why pay sometimes more for a 3rd party than an official? With all that said, I am digging Eligos a bit: I am thoroughly ecstatic about his transformation. And I like Toyworld's devy pretty well.
