Hallucinating that there are young children heckling you in the crowd, throwing your opponent off his game & confusing everyone in the building with who you are talking to, creating an atmosphere so tense you could cut it with a knife, hitting your shot to win a major championship, then declaring that whatever the human mind can envision oneself to be, HE ALREADY IS.....just WOW!

I remember his father, Dick Weber, all too well bringing me to tears as a twelve year old. I was helping my local bowling alley during a 1992 Senior PBA event as an official scorekeeper and held Mr. Weber from rolling as I noticed the 9 pin was not racked correctly. "G-D- it kid you don't know who the f- you're talking to do you." "Sir... the 9 pin is not racked..." As I pushed the rerack button. He didn't make the top 10 that event if I recall, which was odd. Never got an apology. A few weeks later the bowling alley called and had a Dick Weber Legacy urethane ball with drilling all paid for by "someone" just for me. I didn't want it. But did end up getting it. Bowled a 266 a few weeks later and still have that ball to this day.

Weber talks about what made him mad that night..."Being caught up in the moment of throwing the strike and being as excited as I was, I had a kid rooting against me during the match, and he was doing it loud enough for me to hear. And it kind of made me mad, and people know, don’t make me mad on TV, ’cause I’ll just get better. But what I really wanted to say was, ‘Who do you think you are rooting against me? I’m the man of this tournament!’ That’s what I really wanted to say.”

Pete has been playing a 'character' since he came back in the early 2000s based on his love of pro wrestling. It certainly helped him recover his game. You can't act the way he did for all that time if you weren't winning or placing. And it seemed he was every week. I think some of his acting up was at no one in particular, and was just him being 'in character', as even the announcers couldn't figure out what his problem was, and I don't think the officials knew who in the hell he was talking about either, since no one was moved. I think he needed that to stay in the mental game to bowl as well as he did.
