Brief explanation of idmthy: The character of the album is a version of Quadeca who follows through on taking his own life. He was stuck in a life he felt was not worth living and he became fascinated by the idea of not existing so he took his own life. To his surprise he ascends into a ghostly form of himself and quickly begins to regret his decision. He watches over his family as they move on from his death and he becomes desperate to communicate with them as he feels like he is being forgotten. In a moment of weakness and selfishness, he sets off a carbon monoxide leak with the hopes of his mother being able to see him in the hallucinations. This attempt to communicate failed and he almost ended up killing his mother. He is overwhelmed with guilt, loneliness, and the idea of being forgotten causing him to have a panic attack. After calming down, he reflects on the moments leading up to his suicide with a newfound perspective gaining some amount of closure. “let me go but don’t let go of me”. He is then able to enter the void and become consumed by static as he achieves his original goal of not existing. Only this time he wishes he could be alive with his loved ones.

it feels amazing to hear someone put that feeling into an album in such a honest and chaotic way. I wasn't able to undertand at first by how much it was personal to him, but he went through a whole ideal and perspective to really let himself live and feel free-er again. what a guy. honestly. thanks for sharing that. can't find much info anywhere.

House Settling really has that desperation vibe, Danny def elevates the track in a lot of ways, but the buildup to that point is so sick. The entire album is gorgeous and unnerving and just a totally unexpected treat. Knots really oozed that nervous energy that overthinking and depression can bring you.

It’s mad how slow some people are that they’re focusing on the vocals being ‘trash’. Everything Quadeca did was a conscious choice. The effects he uses are to contribute to the feeling and atmosphere that the album creates. Being haunted isn’t meant to be a pleasant thing, and that’s communicated perfectly via the mixing and, at times, out of tune and disturbing parts of the instrumental
@pbear1988

@rowanbrearley4483
@rowanbrearley4483 Жыл бұрын
@@pbear1988 that’s completely subjective. Some will like it, some won’t. What I’m talking about is the objective fact that he deliberately makes these choices. Those people acting like Quad couldn’t sound angelic if he wanted, and like his vocals/mixing are straight up trash, when his mixing is quite frankly as skilled as I’ve seen from an artist
@DHawkBeats
@DHawkBeats Жыл бұрын
You’re correct but some people try to sound too weird on purpose and it’s too much lol. I think Quad was doing great here but in some ways they have a point with the mixing being unpleasant to listen to. Thematically it’s perfect for the album but sometimes it makes parts of the album less enjoyable than if it were mixed like the From Me To You tracks
@catswork
@catswork Жыл бұрын
I think the vision was there and the songs are still great, but the mixing really could’ve been better. I’ll be listening to the songs wanting to enjoy it when parts are entirely muffled by each other cancelling into this mesh of haze. It kills the momentum.

Tbh, I feel like some people don’t listen to music as seriously as like an Anthony. Knots for example, didn’t sound as good on my AirPods than it did on my m40s. And sounds even less good coming through a phone speaker. Sometimes you need proper equipment to fully enjoy some music. If not you are missing lots of details.
@Andious
@Andious Жыл бұрын
But then at the same time it's the producers/mixers job to judge whether the album should sound good through phone speakers and headphones over just making it sonically perfect. I think Quad's ok for doing this for this album though.
@dk0139
@dk0139 Жыл бұрын
@@Andious I think it comes down to the purpose of the record, and what the artist wants the record to amplify or ignite in its audience. With this album, it’s clearly more to invoke an atmosphere that stays consistent throughout the entire album, rotating motifs and such that are really only provided when you listen to it in detail, and in the most clear and pronounced detail you possibly can. On the other hand, there is a fair share of really good records that you don’t need to do all this for, that can still stand on their own when you don’t listen to it with the most high profile audio you can get to ur hands on. It’s less convenient to make a record that requires you to pay attention and listen in high quality, but at the same time, it’s more engaging and it’s audience tends to care more about understanding the layers and what it stands for, rather than how good it would sound coming out of a toilet paper roll with a slit for your phone cut in it.
