"when I talk about unsigned artists...you guys barely watch it." bro the last 'listen to your music' got over 125k views. That's not a huge portion of your audience maybe but a hundred thousand people is a LOT of eyes on projects that would otherwise be getting little to no exposure. I get that the KZbin gig is so heavily metrics-driven and you only have so much time to make content so you wanna make the stuff that is more likely to keep food on your plate but like...damn man I dunno I'm sure any of the artists featured in either series is happy with the extra attention.

Don't tell me that ridiculous article that linked "thisistheplan" to nefarious nazi memery scared you so much that you don't even feel like making funny shitposting content like that anymore. We all get why you reacted the way you did after that smear article by that jealous loser is forgot the name of. But it's been a while and we all miss those kind of Videos from you on the side. That said, obviously your content since that ridiculous incident is still fantastic and if you don't feel like making funny shitposting content anymore, then that's fair. Just know that the majority of us Subscribers really enjoyed that content every now and then next to the usual content. Also that low self-esteem loser who wrote that smear article shouldn't be able to check in on your channel and go "Ha, my article from forever ago made Fantano change his content and even today he doesn't dare produce thisistheplan kind of content."

If I were a famous musician and I died, I'd want all my unreleased and unfinished recordings/midi files to be made copyright free and put online for anyone to sample or remix. If I can't finish these songs, why should just one person or a committee finish and release them? Why not let anyone finish them or build on them in whatever way they want? It's not gonna be me either way, so I may as well let anyone do it. If I was working on an album I'd probably want it released as my work or finished according to my original vision. But if they were disconnected recordings I'd just make them free to the world.

If it weren't for your heard it on Bandcamp, I wouldn't have found Galen Tipton and discovered one of my favourite albums of last year, then gone on to dive into Deskpop as a label and their awesome sound. As for review your music - even without getting much of a boost from it - seeing a bunch of my friends and mutuals get recognition is an incredible thing to see. And, of course, I'm grateful for discovering a whole bunch of artists, such as Chong the Nomad. I gather a lot of people are less interested in this format, but your *relative* viewings compared to the actual number of people seeing music they'd never have come across are two different metrics. If you can't justify the format due to relative lack of views, or impact on the artist, then fair enough - but I think it's easy to overlook the impact that exposure like this can provide, as well as the sheer boost in motivation it can give to those few artists that get showcased. If you can find the will to keep up on formats like Hear it on Bandcamp and Review Your Music, that'd be very cool. ^~^

Power Forth Yeah but people have been doing live performances and making tunes in music for a long time. You can’t even compare the two, because podcasts are a completely different process.

People making podcasts is a recent development. People making music is not. I believe that is the point melon is making.
@powerforth84005 жыл бұрын
@@dcarterm8371 of course you can compare the two because podcasts are literally just a discussion. People have been communicating as far back as music has been around and then some.. and if you want a live performance comparison, think of a play or public speech

Re: podcasts vs music, I feel like the argument isn’t really about the mediums themselves being comparable, but it’s an argument over time spent. Say a podcast listener amasses a playlist of a dozen or so shows that are updated weekly and can usually take up anywhere between 20 minutes to 2 hours to get through. So for every one listener to a specific podcast, that could mean a full 2 hours listening time. Suddenly someone’s work commute becomes less about listening to new albums like they might have once done, but instead spend it catching up on podcasts. And since there can be a feeling of obligation to finish each episode before a new one comes out a week later, there is more of a sense of urgency to listen to that podcast instead of the new Ty Segall album. I feel like there really is a strong argument that can be made that podcasts are creeping into a sacred time when music used to reign. Personally I’ve found myself listening to less music in the past couple of years because of this. And it’s not that I can say I prefer podcasts over music, but getting through those shows that I genuinely enjoy is leaving me with less and less time for anything else.

I personally think that cohesion is a very important part of an album, but there are MANY ways an album can be cohesive. I think The Voidz's album Virtue is a good modern example. There's a lot of sounds being experimented with on there, but there are some common elements throughout, from Julian's vocals to the lyrical themes and assortments of digital and psychedelic instrumentation. It seems chaotic and all over the place at first glance, but there are many unifying elements there. Not every song needs to sound the same or even similar for there to be cohesion; some are even like you said, where the lack of cohesion IS the cohesion! Agreed that it can only enhance the album by having it, too!

I frequently choose to listen to a podcast over music. I can actually see podcasts taking over the Audio category in the future.

I feel like if you presented unknown albums not as reviews but like a different video, people will look at it like exploring a new artist and not "oh I didn't hear that, I'm not watching the review." When I'm watching your videos about albums I don't know, I feel like I'm spoiling the album for myself. But when I see an album in your list week or on fantano, I'm more interested in seeing new music and checking it out. Good video

I think that if you did an episode of “It Came From BandCamp” you could briefly talk about it at the end or beginning of your videos just to highlight it. That’s something other content creators do (as well as add a banner or annotation to direct traffic) and works really well to highlight something I might have missed as the content consumer.

You should ask viewers for their best soundtracks from movies of the decade. I think it would be very interesting to see other peoples views on this topic. My vote is for the Nerve soundtrack, i think the music choice on this movie makes the film feel interesting and unique despite the lack of acting talent. This soundtrack inspired me to listen and learn about artist/bands i've never listened to before such as Borns, Basenji, Grandtheft and Blood Orange which are artist I now love today

Here's a posthumous record idea for big artists out there: Make an album in secret over the course of your life full of lessons you've learned and then upon your death, have your record label release it. That way it's something new for your fans that will satisfy them, and it's a new piece of your art for the world to enjoy.

Very much relate to being kept sane by telling people about an album I think is awesome, which is why earlier this year I hoped that you would put Secret Band’s album LP2 on a Y U No Review, even if you didn’t necessarily like. It’d be nice to know if you’ve heard of it, though I know you’re a pretty busy guy, especially with list week coming up. Stay well and keep being active online👍

Album cohesion is honestly one of the things I am most picky about. And not so much the ordering of the songs on the album, but the transitions. I don’t want an abrupt ending followed by a fade in.

Something that should be taken into account is the duration of both podcasts and music. Since the length of a song is shorter are more ads easily incorporated? Or does it just allow for a larger industry? Based on how fast podcasts are growing would determine if it could ever compete with music as an entertainment platform.
