Other topics include Pitchfork being the worst thing to happen to music, and Wolfmother being just as much of a Led Zeppelin ripoff as Greta Van Fleet.

The Nameless One But the internet has made it way easier. A movement can become a meme before it even takes off. Like, complaining about the system or whatever in a song in 2020 is just some edgy zoomer stuff instead of actual protest for example. While back then they just had some posters,cartoons or smth like that to make fun of you. Nothing to the level of the internet.
@thenamelessone6119
@thenamelessone6119 4 жыл бұрын
@@Trololol-ch3te I think people have always been that way. If you grabbed a random protester from the sixties and asked them why they are involved in protests, chances are they'd answer about the same as one from today. Change doesnt come about because people are well informed and ideologically motivated, change comes when people are so pissed they are ready to kill. And if anything, the Internet has facilitated that last bit.
@Trololol-ch3te
@Trololol-ch3te 4 жыл бұрын
The Nameless One I meant that the internet usually doesn’t take protests seriously and often it tries to make a joke out of it. But yeah it has also facilitated it with it’s reach, if u manage to blow up u blow up.

I was in 4th grade when Crack That dropped, but fam, that shit went up at every school dance. It changed school dances and went to influence kids, and now influencing kids with dance + music songs is just a standard. Soulja has influenced rap in the same way that Pixies influenced the 90s... but Soulja had a huge drop. You might not be able to tell me that you know the pixies discography, but when I show you “Where is my Mind?”, you can’t tell me they didn’t impact the hell out of musicians.

I'm old enough to remember mixtape trading, rappers selling their music out of their car or on the streets...obviously this degree of "hustle" isn't needed with social media etc but the side effect of that is a lack of necessity. I honestly don't really consider newer trappy glossy stuff as hip hop as much as I see it as just a side show of the Pop market.

Curious point about the Bowie tweet, his 1976 film The Man Who Fell to Earth has his character introduce a new music format that would in many ways predict the streaming and digital formats of today - it seems only logical that the idea would have been floating in his mind since, and he'd be one of the first to partake in it twenty years later.
