I must say that I am completely impressed with the different styles of music you are willing to listen to. I've always said that if I ever owned a music store, I wouldn't divide it into "styles" of music. I would sort everything from A to Z and leave it at that. Thank you! It warms my heart when people actually keep updated about the bands they claim to like, as opposed to be completely in the dark about anything that band has been doing for the last 30-40 years. As a longtime Uriah Heep fan, who make sure to always keep myself in the loop, I can only say: that's the spirit. And yeah, they are the fourth of the Big 4 too, that part is also correct.

I would say they were on an equal tier with Purple. Ahead of Sabbath, but behind Zeppelin. Heep never did get the airplay in North America that the other three did. And after losing members of their classic line-up they continued to create great music.

I know Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath are generally referred to as the 'holy trinity of '70s hard rock,' but I'd personally swap out Sabbath for Heep. Sabbath is a little too 'metal' for me, whereas the other 3 bands at least had some slight prog rock leanings to them, which made them more interesting to my ears.

So many great songs by Uriah Heep from which to choose. They were my first "favorite" band, having been introduced to them by my oldest brother with their song "Lady in Black," a gentle, poignant tune. But if you want some more of their hard-rocking numbers, might I recommend the following: Easy Livin', Gypsy, Look at Yourself and July Morning, with some fabulous synth work by Ken Hensley. And if you're feeling adventurous, you might want to give a listen to the band's 16-minute opus, "Salisbury." This is truly a great rock and roll band that strangely flew mostly under the radar here in America, more's the pity.

During the first half of the 70's, some people used to say: "If you like music, you gotta love UK". There were some magic moments during this era: Hard-Rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep were at their prime; David Bowie created a lot of fantastic stuff, Prog Rock bands like Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant made History and Glam-Rock acts like T-Rex, Sweet, Slade, Mott The Hoople had a lot of hits that became timeless anthems. People who witnessed all of this during this era are really lucky.

Glad to see you enjoy one of the most underrated rock bands of all time. There have been so many generations of this band with numerous line-ups and lead vocalists that have all excelled at what they do. While many of the founding band members have passed on luckily Mick Box is still here and still going strong. His version of the band is still touring and still has the feel the band was known for from the beginning. It's hard to believe (but not a bad thing i any way) that the band is still going strong after 54 years non-stop. Others have suggested Easy Livin' of which I couldn't agree more but I'll also add Look at Yourself, Salisbury, Rainbow Demon, Fallen Angel, Traveller in Time or Gypsy.

Uriah Heep are a criminally under rated band. They have so many great songs. I am not sure if you know this but the drummer, Lee Kerslake, played all of the drums on the first two Ozzy Osbourne albums, though Tommy Aldridge is shown on the album covers and credited with playing the drums on them. Guitarist Mick Box was the only constant member of Uriah Heep with various members rotating in and out of the band through the years. They made a live DVD in 2002 called The Magician's Birthday Party which you should check out. Many of the essential members of the band united and put on one hell of a show. I was most enthralled to see Ken Hensley return to lay down his incredible Hammond organ work as well as playing some lead guitar and vocals. Ken was so multi talented but sadly has passed away a few years ago, as have several other members including their original singer David Byron, drummer Lee Kerslake, bassist Trevor Bolder, and a few other band members. May they live on through the music that they created!

Saw them open the show with this number in 1974, Gary Thain (one the the best bass players ever) with short hair due to being electrocuted on stage less than a month earlier (in Houston I believe). Sadly he was not with us much longer, and indeed all of the band playing on this track are now dead, expect for the founder Mick Box (possibly the nicest person in rock). He still tours with Uriah Heep, and they released their 25th studio album, Chaos and Colour, early this year. 2 members of the current line up have been with Heep since about 1989, one joined in 2008 (to replace Lee Kerslake, the drummer who played on Stealin', but had to retire due to ill health), and one in 2014 (I think) to replace Trevor Bolder (bassist from Spiders from Mars - David Bowie, and with Heep since 1976) who again had poor health. The current band can still rock with the best (saw them in October last year), and Stealin' is a staple of their shows. I regard this as the first 'modern' rock song, and indeed many bands (e.g. Areosmith, Queen) cite Heep as an influence. Many will suggest classic songs such as July Morning, Easy, Livin' (try something from their Live 1973 album), but their later tracks (e.g. Overload, What Kind of God, Take Away My Soul) are great as well.

Their new album is really good. Even though the original members are gone, many of the current ones have been playing together for years and Box is still jamming out. 🔥

One thing I always remember about UH was when their Abominog album came out they advertised it on the local radio station as "Rock-n-Roll to peel the paint off the walls"... 😁 That became my motto for how loud I liked to listen to my rock/metal music...

@@teerat8451 cool, I just thought it was odd that I saw the same tour in Dayton, Ohio. And it was a former member of Uriah Heep that was the opening act. I've lost too many brain cells to remember if it was earlier in 83 or in early 84 when I saw them. I'm thinking it might have been earlier because Mark Storachi tells a story of how they got kicked off the Tour.

Uriah Heep was one of my favorite bands growing up as a kid. When you recently reviewed them, I went back to my Albums and listen to them again. For a different sound from them you should check out "Lady in Black" Jay will love the base. They have so many good songs.

Heep!!! As many will tell you, they are very under rated. I love this song, the lyrics have so much depth.. "I stood on a ridge and shunned religion, Thinking the world was mine, I made my break and a big mistake, stealin' when I should have been buyin'" Great songs by them "Sweet Loarrain", "Lady in Black" and of course "EASY LIVIN" I am a big fan of their rocking side, but an awesomly beautiful song is RAIN.

Love it any time Uriah Heep gets any attention. They were as special as any of the greats, David Byron fantastic voice and front man. He and Gary Thain died way to young. David Byron, Mick Box, Gary Thain, Ken Hensley, Lee Kerslake, the great Uriah Heep 👍

I was a teenager in the 70's and loved music as I still do. But I never really got into this band for some unknown reason. I knew the radio hit of Easy Living and really liked it but never went further. Wow did I miss out . Thank you for teaching me what I missed out on.

I am SO glad y'all did another song by Heep. This is another one from their golden era with the rhythm section of Gary Thain and Lee Kerslake. This band was a giant influence on me and my buddies and our early band incarnations. Respect.

Saw them in 1974 at Moody Coliseum in Dallas. They started the show playing Stealin' and the crowd went wild. About halfway through the show Gary Thain, the bassist, just falls out backwards on the stage. They carried him off by his arms and legs and we were all just STUNNED. (Seems he was living the hard rock and roll life but was ok) They came back to Dallas about a year or so later and put on a free show. Heep for the RRHOF!!

Heep are primarily hard progressive Album Oriented Rock and wanted their LPs to speak for themselves rather than be marketed as an overly commercial AM radio pop hits act. They did have around a dozen hit singles ("Stealin'" among those) outside the states. The particular album this song is from, "Sweet Freedom", has sold over 6 million copies.
