Fantastic Nottinghamshire Canal Pub Stopover in our VW California Campervan

We've recently taken a lovely trip in to Nottinghamshire to Hickling, where we had a pub stopover in our VW California campervan. Lovely walks along the Grantham (disused) canal, great food and a relaxing time.
This video is dedicated to, and in memory of our beloved Lucy, our 16 year old collie that has recently crossed the rainbow bridge. This was her last camping trip away with us. We love you, run free forever.

Sorry to hear your sad news, we losted our Westie, Macauley nearly nine years ago. We have just had a weekend in the new forest in our VW and we take our dog’s ashes with us on our travels where ever our van takes us. Bit bonkers but it gives us a lot of pleasure. 🤙🐶💙

Heart felt condolences to you both, Collies are just the best and Lucy has clearly loved being out and about even at her grand age. Testament to the love and care you have both given her. It's a time we all dread from the moment they come into our lives but eventually the sadness eases and is replaced by the memories of the happy times you had together. Life is so drastically changed when they leave us, so go easy on yourselves xx

I am now sobbing over your loss of Lucy. Even though she outlived a typical collie by years, I was watching her happy smiley face in the pub and the warm bed for her. I noticed her slight limp which was really good for her age. We lost our two Maine coon cats just over a year a go and my sister lost her collie at a similar time. She has a new Collie / Kelpie cross Ziva and we have our border collie boy Bryn. Who is nearly 16 months. Our near identical California is on order since October. I was thinking Bryn and Lucy may meet. I am sure Lucy is hoping that you give another puppy a chance of your love soon, there are so many little pups needing love. They also are wonderful alt mending broken hearts. This has taken ages to type as I can barely read the text. Our last two cats went to cancer and we had to make that awful decision about when it was no longer good for them to have to carry on. We cannot have them suffer but it is so hard. I wish you all the strength you need to get through this. I expect we may have a wait to your next video, unless it is part of your healing.

@@CampervanTime Try to stay active and do and plan things if you can. I found myself researching cats when we lost our first cat Toddy. We think he was part Burmese, we got him at university before we were married. We were very lucky to be off when he had an embolism and even more lucky that Joanne spotted him and he was in the garden. He could not move his back legs. It is one the most painful ways for a cat to die. We had him to the vets within 20minutes . It was in researching cat breeds that I found the descriptions of Maine Coons personalities described Toddy almost perfectly we had Maine Coons from then on. We did not get a dog until Joanne had retired as we would’ve not leave one at home. I have found advising friends and for my sisters experience that sooner rather than later is better for the new pup. I suggested to friends that they just look online at what pups are available or due soon and wait until one speaks to them. Often they end up with a new companion a couple of weeks after the event. They don’t stop grieving but at the same time there is a new joy. The biggest thing is those empty spaces when you look and she is not there do not torment you so much and your grief can be more measured and controlled. People are often surprised to here that pets are missed more than say a relative. Your relative you may see a few times a year, your doggie is there every day, every minute and when they go the emptiness is in the air around you. Don’t leave it long the sooner the faster the healing can begin. Would you want another collie? It’s also why a lot of people get a second pup when they know the last few years are coming. They do not want that empty hollow feeling without another for comfort. However you go on and what you choose to do, try to make the path as easy as possible. I know Lucy would sense your sadness and appear for snuggles your next pup will never replace her but they will gradually plug the hole and remove the hollowness. It is not a sign of respect to wait it is just a prolonging of pain.

So sorry for your loss. We often park at Kinoulton and walk along the canal with our dog to Hickling for a nice coffee at the Wharf. We’ve been to the pub too but didn’t realise they did stopovers. There’s also a CL stopover just down the road at the Sarsfield cafe, which also does some very nice food.
