I'm retired and started attacking painting 2 years ago using acrylic. Never confident and leaving things undone, till I found you online. I switched to water colors and have watched your videos and have "awoken" to 71 years of my experiences and have a new spark to my life. I can't thank you enough for your calm, fun method to painting, it's been a real joy. Thank you for waking up an old man. Truly Joe C.

BlackTalon I agree! The Mind of Watercolor has been a favorite of mine for a long time now. I am 71 yrs. old and started painting about 15 yrs. ago. Watercolor was difficult at first but Steve is a great teacher! Enjoy the journey!

I totally agree. I'm 63 and started painting about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I can get overwhelmed not knowing exactly what I should be painting. The possibilities are endless. But watching the videos on The Mind of Watercolor are so so calming and makes everything seem to make more sense.

I liked this piece of art because it immediately gave me a story - that the tree extended its root over the water for certain travelers, and pulled it up when others tried to cross!

Trees' are my LOVE, and you have just introduced me to using watercolor and gouache together! The fear of not being able to lighten IS GONE! tytytyty🤗

Some of the elements that I love in your painting is that trees may not be the color you gave them. but they look real. So real that I could touch it and feel the texture.

I wouldn’t mind seeing more of these, I will eco what others have said and that is appreciating your wide range of painting styles. I also wanted to say that I really appreciate your style of video content. It is enjoyable, educative, and I can still watch your videos when I have a migraine because you keep the sound level chill.

Yes, please do some more of this kind of painting with the channel! I have been watching & learning so much about watercolors & gouache when you use it too. I enjoy painting trees but I’m not quite up to the exquisite details of twisted gnarled trunks & branches yet that you have so beautifully done with this one. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video & your easy going method of teaching. I appreciate it😊💕!
@bldgmaker4 жыл бұрын
The breadth of the work you show on this channel is really one of your greatest strengths. It's encouraging to not feel the pressure to be a certain "kind" of artist. I also appreciate the realist in you... gotta feed the family... we are all faced with the complexity of that question of doing what you love for work? or relegating it to a hobby? I'm blessed to really love what I do as an architect, enjoying the creativity of design while also digging the technical bits... your encouragement in watercolor is excellent for practicing a lot of good skills...like getting comfortable while not being in so much control, lol... but ultimately I think one can find delight in many things as you have done. So I salute the breadth of your endeavors! And thanks for sharing your self and your many gifts... I am certain many of us out here are better off for it.

I'd love to see more of this from you! I just ran my first completely home-brewed D&D session last weekend in a fey-inspired forest and this vibe is totally in line with how I pictured it. It was also fun hearing about your experience in the fantasy illustration! There are so many things in this piece I love, but i have to say that little bush/grass on the bottom right (light green against the dark) is my favorite. The brush strokes there are so beautiful!
@mindofwatercolor4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks Denise! And thats pretty cool about your D&D session! I'll bet that was fun. I never got to play much D&D though I really wanted to at one point and even had some of the books. I could pretty much name all the illustrators though 😄. I primarily played miniature battle strategy games and a couple card games with my son and nephew when they were younger. I still have most of my Lord of the Rings miniatures and scenery from the Games Workshop battle strategy game. Anyway, fond memories. Glad you enjoyed the art. I will definitely do more. These days I'm especially inspired by fantasy/scifi environmental concept art being done for film and video games. Big "duh" I guess. 😂 Thanks for stopping by to chat about all this fun stuff!

A terrific piece and yet another awesome video Steve! Like so many of us aspiring artists back in the late 70's early 80's, I dreamed of being the next Frazetta or Hildebrant brothers, but the closest I got was paying for college by airbrushing Frazetta or Boris scenes onto the sides of vans and motorcycle tanks, lol. I was in a western art show in Tucson about 5 years back and I knew Julie Bell was in the show (Boris' wife/girlfriend/ partner) since she had started painting horses. Well, this man walked by me with the name Boris on his nametag but he didn't look anything like the photos I'd seen of Boris, but since I was such a fan I went up and asked him if he was THE Boris Valejo, and it was! I was tickled cuz I got to meet and spend then next half hour talking with one of my fantasy heroes and take a photo with him, and he was tickled, I think, cuz someone recognized and knew who he was, even at a western-themed art show. That's my story and I'm sticking to it... grin.
@mindofwatercolor4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, don't get me started on Frazetta. What an iconic talent and inspiration and he continues to be so. Thats really neat about being able to talk with Boris. I also saw Boris also at a fantasy convention but only at a distance. I also met and talked with Rowena Morill once. Very talented painter also. She didn't respond well to technique questions. So I stopped. I think she thought I was trying to divulge her greatest secrets. LOL! Where would we be without these inspirational greats! Thanks for stopping by buddy.

And I think KZbin is such a great way as an artist to pursue personal work that speaks to you as opposed to working for someone else. So far I’m really enjoying the process and learning and everything. I would love to see more pieces like this from you.
