Think about it Kyle.... the more windings, of a higher impedance speaker would produce more control within the magnetic field. So the SPEAKER impedance should be the decider, not the CAB impedance, or AMP.

I have a multi-watt rectifier and it sounds good at low volumes. It does like to get cranked but even the 100 watt modes can sound good at low volumes. The only thing is the highs of the "modern" mode get very intense at low volumes, so stick with the "vintage" mode. Though I agree that the best solution is an attenuator, you can still get good sounds at low volumes.

I bought a Fryette Deliverance 4x12 with a pair of DV77's and original P-50's. I liked the combo by myself, but in my band mix, I kept having to dial out the bottom end to get the top end chime to cut through. I pulled out the DV's and got another pair of P50's and haven't looked back. Now to unload these DV's

From my understanding 16ohm speakers are always brighter than 8ohm versions. Refer to Hop pole Celestion video for that. DV77s are closer to M65 creamback but slightly brighter, not close to V30. Dr. Danny Mann here on KZbin did made a video on how even tape you stick on the grill cloth affect the tone of a cab.

Chris Khole did a video with one of the engineers at Jensen. Was a great/nerdy video. (4:45) 16Ohm speakers will be brighter. Putting two 8Ohm speakers in series will not brighten the tone. But you have just given me a great idea for a video... I have a 4x12 that can be run 4ohm or 16ohm mono. It can also be run in stereo 8ohms per side. I'll make a recording of all the options and post it soon
@lowqualityguitarvideos

Its a combination of both; the speaker loud matters, (16 ohm brighter) and the total load matters because it interacts with the windings/taps of the output transformer differently.

Speakers are quite complicated. A key detail to consider: frequency affects inductance (impedance is a bit of a moot point with a reactive load like a speaker). What this means real world is that the higher the rated impedance, the lower the average power. The lower the rated the impedance, the higher the average power. This should give you more bass and less of a difference between frequencies with an 8 ohm speaker. Also a 16 ohm speaker should give you more dynamics between different frequencies and will have a tendency to sound brighter and have less bass. To understand what's going on you need to see the frequency response curve for the speaker in the cabinet it's installed in and you would also need to see the inductance curve as it relates to frequency and then you can get a feel for what sorts of differences you would see between speakers.

Thanks for answering my question. I definitely agree that an amp with a good master volume is best for home use. I have an archon 100 that sounds pretty good at low volume. Was hoping that the dual rec would sound good at low volume too. Any amps with a tone like the dual rec that have a good master volume and sound good at low volume?
@DeathPandaDanceParty
@DeathPandaDanceParty 3 жыл бұрын
You could get a Two Notes Torpedo X as a load box and attenuator. That way you can keep the volume low but the turn the Mesa up and get the tone of it turned up but at a lower volume. Could try an EQ pedal with your Archon to make it sound closer to a dual Rectifier. Diesel Herbert have really good master volumes. Diezel demos it on their KZbin and specifically mention that. Using its channel 2 in plus mode or even Channel 3 and the mid cut function might be able to get it close to a dual rec. if you like it with more mids then can always dial them up and turn the mid cut off.
@LoreAccurateHusky
@LoreAccurateHusky 3 жыл бұрын
Having the master volume over the channel volumes makes it easy to run it at lower volumes, I run the channels at 10 o'clock and ride the master volume. The 50 watt mode also gives you more wiggleroom in terms of the master sweep. The multiwatts have very good sweeps for their pots. It's definitely one of my better amps for low volumes which surprised me.

AFAIR even using different impedance setting on the amp changes the tone if cab offers switched 1x16 and 1x4 outputs. I think this stuff is referred as `damping` Creamback H75 should be also tighter, darker yet thinner for mixing with v30. Marshall Mode Four 280 has a nice V30 speakers - more balanced yet still in V30 style. I've heard these are similar to Hellatone 60L

Next im looking into a noise gate so the question is where do u think the best placement for a gate pedal would be? In the pre-amp section after the OD or in the effects loop also at the end of the loop or beginning? And should i run the 4 cable method or not? Thanks man wish you continued success and very impressive collection of heads and cabs.

All depends! Mostly, you'll want it in front of the amp for high gain situations to kill feedback. But, if you have a particularly hissy amp, you'll want to go 4 cable in the effects loop as well.

Definitely the equivalent resistance the amp sees (the overall load of the speakers altogether in the cab) will be what determines the tone and not the resistance of the individual speakers. That total equivalent resistance the amp sees from the cab definitely forms the filter which affects the tone. But it is a little bit more complex than that since the speaker’s impedance is not purely resistive (it has inductance). Also, the impedance varies with frequency. But definitely the total equivalent impedance the amps sees will affect the tone. I say this as an electrical engineer myself, so that is my educated guess about it.
